They’re demanding that the government agrees a deal to release the hostages and stop pushing the military effort forward.

It was never about the hostages- Israel doesn’t really want them back. Netanyahu doesn’t give a shit about the hostages. As long as the hostages exist inside Gaza, Israel can justify even more death and destruction.

Yes, that seems to be the stance of even families of the hostages now:

“We live between a terrorist organisation that holds our children and a government that refuses to release them for political reasons,” said Yehuda Cohen, whose son, Nimrod, is held in Gaza.

It’s a terrible shame. The hostages are being used as the reasoning for the absolute horror that is being inflicted on Gaza. Horrible all around. Even if Hamas released the hostages today they know Israel wouldn’t stop, so they have no motivation to do so.

There's quite a few, who "don't give a shit about the hostages".

If they had any intention of releasing them, that would have been done, by now.once again, Hamas is being referred to, as if they are the reasonable party!

if Netanyahu wanted to end the genocide he’d have done so.

Not without the release of the hostages, will he end the war.

I’ve certainly never encountered any on these threads.

Is it not only a war when both sides are able to fight?

If the hostages were really the priority, why keep breaking ceasefires and deals? The actions speak louder than the talking points.

The other side is fighting - by hiding amongst its civilians.

crumblingschools · 18/08/2025 13:30

@Dangermoo why do you think people in Israel are protesting against the action, including families of the hostages? Do you not think they have more say than anyone else in what they believe the action should be?

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 18/08/2025 13:30

Dangermoo · 18/08/2025 13:28

I’ve repeatedly expressed empathy for the hostages- don’t really know what you want from me anymore- so your ‘irony’ is lost on me I’m afraid.

Hamas broke ceasefires - do you remember 7/10?

The civilians in Palestine are too malnourished to fight. This is a genocide.

There have been at least two major ceasefires since Oct 7: one in Nov 2023 and another in Jan 2025. Both collapsed- not simply because of Hamas- but partly due to Israel backing out, resuming bombings, blocking aid, and stalling the deals.

7/10 wasn’t a ceasefire being broken- Gaza had already been under blockade and repeated assaults for years before. Since then, it’s Israel that’s broken multiple negotiated ceasefires and deals, even when hostages and aid were on the line. If the priority was really peace or hostages, they wouldn’t keep sabotaging their own agreements.

You're saying there wasn't a ceasefire broken on 7th October? I've seen some denial but that one takes the biscuit. I really do find some of your posts unpalatable, so I'm refraining from going any further.

Regardless of whether 7/10 was breaking a ceasefire. Israel have broken two ceasefires since then and are committing war crimes everyday. How do you excuse that?

I'm not excusing anything - are you? This tactic gets used quite often. The infamous events of the broken ceasefire on 7/10 aren't going to fade into obscurity, anymore than the alleged genocide. One doesn't outweigh the other, yet so many make it a game of comparative numbers.

You have been corrected re. 7/10 below so I will not be challenging you on that again.

Ah so when Israel takes hostages they’re detainees who deserve it. When Hamas take hostages they need to be freed immediately. Interesting that you have such a double standard

Challenged about what? A ceasefire was broken - deliberately on 7th October. "Kill as many people and take as many hostages as possible".
