She’s not rich though, presumably.

I image Qatar is a safe, pleasant place to live if you’re rich. Maybe less so if you have a low income?

It think it depends who you're connected to in Gaza. From what I see only the privileged get to escape, and that often seems to translate as friends and family of hamas.

Sinwar got his wife and children out just before 7/10 apparently. Do we know who her connections are?

That's true. I lived there for a bit but we were lucky to have a decent income - although not rich, that was the locals.

No I haven't read anything about if this young woman has connections so I don't know.

See above. This seems to be her.

Ah. So she'll likely be having a lovely time there.

Oh! She had connections to Hamas.

Quelle surprise!

Yes... shame.

Once again I have been found to be a little naive about how things work.

Just one Palestinian person has these views?!

Right. So rhere weren't widespread celebrations in Gaza from the ordinary population regarding the massacre on October 7th.

And don't forget 9/11. They as a majority seem to hate the West until they play victims.

In your posts you come across as fair minded and compassionate, not naive.

There was an autobiography called 'princess of persia'. The scam was, a lady in purdah exposed her nakedness underneath to the author to illicit charity , which as a good person she duly gave, then saw this women doing the same to other 'marks.' There is no shame in wanting to help people. The shame belongs to the people who want to weaponise it - though they will never feel it.

I listened to two interviews this morning. One Israeli spokeswoman and other SOAS institute.

The question posed to the latter, which was deflected from, was why don’t Hamas release the hostages?

Just say we’re doing this and bring poor brutalised Evyatar David and the others out?

The plight of that poor man, which is largely going ignored. You have to be extremely mentally tough to cope with his situation, or deeply religious.

Utterly horrendous.

Why doesn’t Hamas just release him and the remaining hostages?

Just end the captivity

He's a bargaining chip.

Historically the Israeli's have been willing to trade a.lot (e.g. prisoner release) to get one of their own back.

As a result there's sadly a bit of a history of.Israeli's being captured and held for very prolonged periods before release, assuming they survive that long...

They need the collateral. It's sickening, truly sickening; to have no regard for human life and treat it as a bargaining chip. People accuse Netanyahu of genocide, whilst overlooking the depraved acts of both the slaughter and treatment of hostages. It's just a cursory acknowledgement of what Hamas did. I think possibly the worst views I see are not only comparing the number of fatalities, but reducing Hamas from an evil terrorist regime, to victims of oppression, who are enacting revenge.

Might be that surname can be common so they managed to omit that part of the family and claim no relation if asked.
You can have thousand of people in the area with same surname but so distant relation it is not actual connection. E.g. X related to anothe X via grand grand parent then the family split into different branches. So they might have easily played into that. If that makes sense.
I am assuming getting information from local gov is... Not happening really...

As soon as you show you use people's lives as bargaining tools, you know that normal means of negotiation are worthless.

So they are basically devious; manipulation is a big part of their agenda and don't we just know it!

I listened this morning and just thought why wasn’t the worldwide pressure and marches to release them.
And Hamas have been emboldened and by western leaders recently.

If terrorists released footage of a tortured citizen digging their own grave what can you do?

It’s sickening, and I think Hamas would do anything for propaganda and harm.

The tone of most of the public response in the first few weeks post the Oct 23 attack was IMO generally pretty dreadful...and I include MN in that.

Anyone with any awareness of the history of that part.of rhe world knew that the Israeli's would try at the very least to get their own back and that would press buttons on the west.

Hamas and their paymasters knew darn well they would pretty much have a monopoly on western public sympathy even if Israel's reaction was proportinate (which IMO it largely was initially) and acted with that in mind.

(Edit for paras).
