Conflict in the Middle East
Dangermoo · 03/08/2025 11:09

Laughable thing is - well it's not really funny, more ironic - when I was in education, the Prevent agenda was hard driven and its training was compulsory. It would be interesting to see the quandary this conflict now presents. How many of those teaching practitioners, are out on the Saturday protests? Unwittingly negating everything they advocate, when they undertake Prevent training?

The teacher holding up pictures of Rishi & Stella as coconuts will have done prevent training. It's not fit for purpose.

That passive aggressive woman shouldn't be anywhere near a classroom. Problem is, you can take her political stance, and multiply it a thousand fold. Ignorant bigots, full of misguided loyalty and hate.

Im not sure I see the link. Prevent training doesnt train someone how not to be an arsehole or racist. It trains someone in what the threshold is and how to determine whether a referrral should be made to Prevent with regard to extremism and terrorism.

It's also about safeguarding. Yeah, those Jewish students are going to feel really safe, when they see their teachers on those 'protests'.

Absolutely agree. But thats nothing to do with their Prevent training, which was my point

Although I think most of the country are being gaslighted to the degree there are lots of Jewish people who support the protests and the general gist of the pro Palestinian aim, ie to stop the killing, which is legitimate and some may feel the Israeli government doesnt have a mandate for their current defense strategy.

Prevent training seeks to stop radicalisation of students; It aims to prevent terrorist tendencies. How can marching along with some of those antisemitic placards, be in accordance with that training? As much as many don't like it, the most common chant has bugger all to do with liberating Palestinians. It's tiresome repeating the same thing.

No Prevent training is to enable professionals who work with the public to identify who may need to be referred to Prevent or signposted to other services. The training itself does not seek to stop radicalisation of students. Its to enable practitioners who work with the public to understand their duties to refer and what the threshold is.

The interventions and actions from a successful referral is hopefully what prevents radicalisation and extremism.

Until the UK government sets out that pro Palestinian marches and support is extremism, then attending the training and going on marches are not in opposition to each other. That said, I dont know anyone in my profession who would go on such marches.

It's a tick box exercise. The link, she's a racist, she sees nothing wrong in demonstrating it, she has poor judgement, is easily led and politically active.

Well there is the eternal problem that applies to us all.You might see it as racist (I presume you mean to be pro palestinian is to be anti semitic?) And the teacher wont agree.

OK, well whatever its meaning, prevent and pro pal marches contradict each other. That's just my opinion. No public sector worker should be representing either side in this complex conflict.

We know how easily bullies catch things. Intimidating Jewish students on college campuses, harassing diners, boycotting products, threatening the elderly and school children, ripping down posters, sinister actions, all with that undercurrent of prejudice and discrimination - that's before we get to the faction, who proudly boast antisemitic practice. I wonder how many of these hold or aspire to hold positions of power, or indeed, influence on new generations.

That’s what I find so concerning about it.
Some people happily spread those unfounded claims, knowing full well how it will further fuel antisemitism and likely lead to more attacks against Jews and Israelis all over the world.
You could see it on the thread about the French-Jewish teenagers traveling back from Spain - several people parroting the „well, they shouldn’t have chanted Death to Arabs“ line, even though as far as I know there is still no proof that the teenagers actually did that.

It's become a sort of fashion cult, a badge of honour. I wonder if it's more popular among younger people who tend to be anti-establishment and can only compute that our own establishments can be rather corrupt, without any recognition that other establishments, equally well funded, take corruption to whole new levels. I can't remember if it was on this thread, but it was very telling that a PP saw Gaza as an innocent infant bullied by adult Israel.

EasyTouch · 03/08/2025 14:34

Not to derail, but nothing in my post was either a lie or warranted deletion.

Hit dogs hollering, yet again.
Sorry that the geo political truth does not mesh with the emotionalist under thinking box that many do not want want the seal broken of.

The shards of light may open their eyes to the fact that reality is a three dimensional thing that cares not for mere opinion, no matter how forceful and loud.

Shame on Mumsnet for being a party to the minimisation of both Islamism and anti Semitism and the fact that both France and the UK are in wavy Far Right adjacent times with Islamism within both of these countries' Muslim populations being but one of its main engines.

XXLfiles · 03/08/2025 16:34

Have to admit I was also surprised by thay deletion.

Especially considering some unconfirmed information from what I would call a questionable source on this thread is allowed to stand.

This is not against Talk guidelines though (or these threads would be half the size).

People post all sorts of rubbish and it's allowed to stand because it's their opinion which isn't against talk guidelines, even if they do express it as though it were fact. I didn't see the post of @EasyTouch that got deleted but it must have broken a guideline in some way. I'm sure they had good points to make but we have to be so careful on here how we say things.

That's interesting, and presumably explains the avalanche of disinformation in the 2 years or so after 7 Oct and the constant deletions of posters who became increasingly frustrated and suspicious of the motives behind such wildly false and inflammatory claims. We lost a lot of intelligent voices that way, some of whom I haven't seen since, and I can't help thinking it was a deliberate strategy.

Yes, there were some articulate posters, who I guess had just had enough.

It looks like they thought the screening would avoid this, so need to review it all again.

Screening is never going to work 100%. That’s pretty obvious so seems like a huge overreaction from France.
