Kneecap and now this.....There are some absolute fits playing at Glastonbury and I am sure there are some virtue signalling loons cheering this.

Hope turnpike throw the book at them.

Bobby Vylan of British duo Bob Vylan performs on the West Holts Stage

Police review footage of chants led by Glastonbury acts

The government condemned chants from rap duo Bob Vylan which were streamed live and called for "death" to the Israeli military.

Dunno. They seem to have forgotten what happened at another music festival, with innocent young people enjoying the music before they were the victims of an atrocity.
Perhaps a nod to that would have been appropriate.

Mollymalone123 · 29/06/2025 06:22

They don’t seem to have any critical thinking skills at all!

Martymcfly24 · 29/06/2025 07:02

Here we go again.

"virtue signalling"
"Lefties"
"Useful idiots"
"No critical thinking "
"Just go to Gaza "
Etc etc
(It's like a Daily Mail comment section around these threads)

Headline news will be an obscure band shouting death to a military that we have seen over the past 20 months kill and maim thousands of children.

Let's all talk about that and not the fact that an IDF member has said they have orders to shoot starving people trying to get aid

Oh it's much more important that we get all horrified and indignant about Palestinian flags than the 3 children and their parents who were sleeping in a tent Thursday night killed because the IDF landed an airstrike on them.
Where's the Daily Mail headline here?

If words hurt so much why are we not discussing Ben Gvir saying 3 days ago that all aid should be stopped to Gaza condemning millions to death.

Is thousands of Israelis shouting "Death to Arabs" on the 26th May an issue or is it only an issue when it's a band saying things.

But yes let's all talk about a music band.

It wasn’t just the band, he was inciting the crowd, who joined in.

It’s an issue when large groups of people are chanting about death to anyone.

It’s a problem for us when it’s here, a few years in prison for a Facebook post, but crowds at Glastonbury screaming death is fine according to likes of you apparently 🙄

Bumble6 · 29/06/2025 07:17

Because it's a thread about what happened at Glastonbury? Theres lots of other threads on mumsnet and articles in the news talking about what's happening in Gaza.

Bumble6 · 29/06/2025 07:19

Sorry my post was in response to martymcfly24

Twiglets1 · 29/06/2025 07:40

How ironic that this should be done at a music festival.

People are entitled to express their views... not entitled to create an environment that is hostile to Jewish people and gives a platform to Jew killers at a UK festival where “discrimination of any sort is not tolerated.”

justasking111 · 29/06/2025 07:45

Let's hope he gets 31 months for the hate speech Starmer has said will not be tolerated

NCForThatForumM · 29/06/2025 08:07

Bob Vylan told fans: 'From the river to the sea Palestine must be, will be, free.'

That stock phrase has a very specific meaning: Kill/displace all the Jewish/Gay people between the Jordan River and the Med. Which means every single one of them. However specifically not Arab Israelis.

That's not calling for Israelis to be killed That's very specifically calling for only Jews to be killed. (And Gay people, of course.)

They haven't forgotten the 2023 Nova Festival at all, they're full square supporting of it.

Good point.

Mildorado · 29/06/2025 08:28

@NCForThatForumM yes, the old favourite from the marches "from the river to the sea".
I wonder how many of the braying crowd think.. What river? What sea?

NiMaithLiomDeLuain · 29/06/2025 08:32

I guess that what happens when a country is led by successive governments with no moral compass. Why would chants about the death of an army be an issue but a government standing up and saying the killing, maiming and starvation of 1000s of kids is fine isn't an issue.

I can't get worked up about. The British government have set the standard, people are just following it.

Ohyoudodoyou · 29/06/2025 08:35

Depressing. The moment protest music at festivals turned into another thing entirely.

Twiglets1 · 29/06/2025 08:36

A BBC spokesperson said:

“Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan’s set were deeply offensive. During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language. We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.”

Kneecap and Bob Vylan comments are both being investigated by the Avon & Somerset police.

Mildorado · 29/06/2025 08:39

That's good, @Twiglets1 .

A band whipping up a crowd to shout 'death to' a group of people, here in tje uk, is not worthy of comment?

Why do you think there has been so little comment at music festivals about the many young people tortured murdered and kidnapped at a music festival?

Wimbledonmum1985 · 29/06/2025 08:42

I’m not Jewish but I cannot imagine how terrified and othered I would feel if I was there having to listen to that. Horrendous.

Same, and that this violent hatred would be broadcast by the nation's broadcaster with nothing more than a content warning fig leaf.

Actually from the river to the sea was written and not yet been amended, in 1977, in the Likud Party Charter, saying between the sea and the River Jordan there will only Israeli sovereignty. Doesn’t sound too forgiving for the Palestinians then.

I never said it was not worthy of comment.

The issue is when it becomes headline news instead of the 75 people that died in Gaza the other night .
The issue is once again when pro Israeli commentators denigrate people for standing up for Palestinians with the same tired insults . Just saw a post a second ago the "braying" crowd don't know what river and what sea
Again it is seen as supporting Palestinians is a trendy cause for those who lack critical thinking further dehumanizing the population and making light of the massive death toll.

Exactly… if we can feel that ( as non Jewish people) how much worse must it have been for Jewish people?

I imagine any that were actually at the festival did not feel very safe or like they were welcome at Glastonbury.

Do you think it’s ok to call for the deaths of IDF soldiers at a music festival then? Putting aside all the straw men you’re putting up - do you think that it was a good thing to do?

The problem is that when those accused of a lack of critical thinking fail to acknowledge the nuance, historical background as well as the immediate causes of the conflict, and appear to adopt a “this side is good, that side is bad”, mantra, then they invite opinion that they lack critical thinking.

greencartbluecart · 29/06/2025 08:49

This is what happens when people kill / murder

people begin to hate the killers and all who stand by them

and actually I think that is very close to the right response - I don’t think calling for the death of others is right - violence breeds violence - but to hate and despise those who support the isreali actions ? To want justice ( rather than revenge - but that’s easy for me at this distance )

the isrealis seem to want to annihilate populations and expect people to not notice or care ? Stick you hand in a fire and then yell that it burns ?

But the government says it's fine to kill, maím and displace a large group of people? You can even call for their ethnic cleansing whilst starving them and it's fine, the British government will still support you.

So the government can support ethnic cleansing but these citizens chanting is a step too far? Come on now.
