Kneecap and now this.....There are some absolute fits playing at Glastonbury and I am sure there are some virtue signalling loons cheering this.

Hope turnpike throw the book at them.

Bobby Vylan of British duo Bob Vylan performs on the West Holts Stage

Police review footage of chants led by Glastonbury acts

The government condemned chants from rap duo Bob Vylan which were streamed live and called for "death" to the Israeli military.

I never said it was not worthy of comment.

The issue is when it becomes headline news instead of the 75 people that died in Gaza the other night .
The issue is once again when pro Israeli commentators denigrate people for standing up for Palestinians with the same tired insults . Just saw a post a second ago the "braying" crowd don't know what river and what sea
Again it is seen as supporting Palestinians is a trendy cause for those who lack critical thinking further dehumanizing the population and making light of the massive death toll.

Oh come on.You know full well its the trendy cause of the moment. Its headline news because its Glastonbury and becayse Palestine Action are being proscribed so palestinian activism is headline news . I don't suppose he mentioned the 23 Syrian Christians killed in a bomb attack this week. That just about made it into some headlines. No less relevant to a bunch of middle class people in a field in Somerset. Why was that not the subject of flags and chants?

HermioneWeasley · 29/06/2025 08:52

It’s absolutely chilling. I look forward to him being dealt with the same severity as a housewife who posted an inflammatory tweet.

Twiglets1 · 29/06/2025 08:54

@Martymcfly24 there are many other threads to discuss what is happening in Gaza and many media headlines about it too.

This thread is about Glastonbury so for once let’s try to stick to the topic under discussion.

Palestine? It's fashionable, it's trendy, you don't have to think too hard, there's a few readily available chants. It's a shame that it became the vehicle for hate, though.

"trendy cause"

Disgusting.
Only certain lives really do count don't they.

Actually from the river to the sea was written and not yet been amended, in 1977, in the Likud Party Charter, saying between the sea and the River Jordan there will only Israeli sovereignty. Doesn’t sound too forgiving for the Palestinians then.

Well, nearly 50 years later Arabs and Gay people live in peace in peace and freedom within Israel and the Palestinains are still there. (Relentlessly fighting Israel, Egypt and amongst themselves.)

So Isreali sovereignty is way better than the plans Militant Islam have for the region.

Both sides use the phrase and we know exactly that each side mean by it. Isreal mean a modern democracy where everyone is free, and Hamas mean an Islamic hell hole "cleansed" of Jews and Gay people at perpetual war with itself and it's neighbours.

Martymcfly24 · 29/06/2025 09:01

crumpet · 29/06/2025 08:49

The problem is that when those accused of a lack of critical thinking fail to acknowledge the nuance, historical background as well as the immediate causes of the conflict, and appear to adopt a “this side is good, that side is bad”, mantra, then they invite opinion that they lack critical thinking.

And how do you know they don't and have drawn their conclusion based on the information at hand.

Because they don't agree with your point of view?

You really honestly dont understand how things work?! Of course its the fashionable cause. That doesnt in itself invalidate that cause. But how else do you explain the lack of interest in other causes? How else do you explain the incredible lack of knowledge of people parrotting things like from the river to the sea when they have no clue what river and what sea?

I notice you havent answered my question. Why so little comment at music festivals about the horror at Nova?

Lindos1 · 29/06/2025 09:04

I'd honestly be s**t scared if I was Jewish in the UK at the moment. This country feels unhinged.

Well yeah, but then we're as bad as them.

I quite like the idea of saying "You're still free, if you'd done that in your Islamic Utopia you'd have been tortured to death."

I understand the contrary case, extremists can use freedom to end freedom.

It's not easy. :(

This is what happens when people kill / murder

people begin to hate the killers and all who stand by them

and actually I think that is very close to the right response - I don’t think calling for the death of others is right - violence breeds violence - but to hate and despise those who support the isreali actions ? To want justice ( rather than revenge - but that’s easy for me at this distance )

the isrealis seem to want to annihilate populations and expect people to not notice or care ? Stick you hand in a fire and then yell that it burns ?

The irony of your last comment is not lost.

No calls for hamas to go, no calls to release hostages. No acknowledgement that music festivals can be dangerous places.
As clueless as the marchers who thought they could bimble through Libya and Egypt and were surprised they couldn't get away with their nonsense outside their home countries. I wonder where the line is between misguided to radicalised.

Nutmuncher · 29/06/2025 09:07

It’s beyond grim. I can’t watch any of it with all that flag waving. Thank god I didn’t go this year.

Seymour5 · 29/06/2025 09:00

I’d like to hope so too.

Fingers crossed. And I hope that the judge considers the relative reach of this incitement to violence - enabled by Glastonbury and the BBC, compared to that of the unknown childminder with a twitter account.

From my understanding, many of them are. There was a thread on here with a Jewish woman recounting how she ans her family were terrorised by pro Palestinian demonstrators. It was chilling. There is so much hate, and so much anti-Semitism which is becoming mainstream
Shocking.

Fluffyholeysocks · 29/06/2025 09:09

Martymcfly24 · 29/06/2025 07:02

Here we go again.

"virtue signalling"
"Lefties"
"Useful idiots"
"No critical thinking "
"Just go to Gaza "
Etc etc
(It's like a Daily Mail comment section around these threads)

Headline news will be an obscure band shouting death to a military that we have seen over the past 20 months kill and maim thousands of children.

Let's all talk about that and not the fact that an IDF member has said they have orders to shoot starving people trying to get aid

Oh it's much more important that we get all horrified and indignant about Palestinian flags than the 3 children and their parents who were sleeping in a tent Thursday night killed because the IDF landed an airstrike on them.
Where's the Daily Mail headline here?

If words hurt so much why are we not discussing Ben Gvir saying 3 days ago that all aid should be stopped to Gaza condemning millions to death.

Is thousands of Israelis shouting "Death to Arabs" on the 26th May an issue or is it only an issue when it's a band saying things.

But yes let's all talk about a music band.

Edited

If only we could. I'd love all the talk to be about bands... Alanis Morrisette, Pulp, Gary Numan - anyone?
But sadly it's more a political rally now with live music playing in the background.

I would be shit scared if I were British Palestinian in the UK. The government is supporting the killing of Palestinians, standing up and saying its fine for Palestinian kids to be executed and starved. No one seems to give a shit how terrifying it must be for them to see how much value their government puts on their lives. Certainly no one is investigating the government for those words.

Actual death to Palestinians, fine. A chant about the death of a foreign army, nope too far.

EasternStandard · 29/06/2025 09:12

Listening to Jewish spokeswoman on this. How awful to see people chant and go on about zionists in antisemitic rants.

Mildorado · 29/06/2025 09:13

However, if you are British Palestinian, you would certainly get a lot of support. You could parade your flag, wear badges and bracelets with your identity clearly shown. Not so much the case for British Jews nowadays.

What’s the coverage for a tweet v broadcast on BBC

Martymcfly24 · 29/06/2025 09:14

@SharonEllis The Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign was set up in 2001. Long before social Media.
Why do you think they don't know what river and what sea. Have you spoken to them all.
Could we say the same about those flying Israeli flags while not seeing the horrendous war crimes the government is engaged in.

Burning Man had a tribute to the Nova festival victims, there were Nova flags at Glastonbury but I don't know about the rest of them. They are obviously private enterprises .
