Kneecap and now this.....There are some absolute fits playing at Glastonbury and I am sure there are some virtue signalling loons cheering this.

Hope turnpike throw the book at them.

Police review footage of chants led by Glastonbury acts

The government condemned chants from rap duo Bob Vylan which were streamed live and called for "death" to the Israeli military.

Yes. So no one voted for Hamas unless they were of voting age in 2006. Where Hamas then executed all their opponents indicating the possibility it may not have been a 100% free and fair election....

And these are the people you want to hand over a liberal democracy to?

So collective punishment is totally normal and allowed under international law?

Where have I said I want to hand over a liberal democracy? And to who?

I have no skin in this game. It's not the UK's business. I don't like the "taking sides" crap that's going on at the expense of nuance. It means unfortunately that no solution to this will ever be found. It would be good if both sides could recognise the other's point of view occasionally, even if they don't agree with it.

What I do believe in is this country and not persecuting any particular group of people. As I've said upthread, the fact that Jews feel unsafe in the UK is all our business.

@Quirkswork

"I think the issue is governments. Whoever is in control. Hamas, Netanyahu, Trump, Starmer. They decide. They are the ones to be held accountable ultimately for whatever they lead their own people into."

So Hamas were voted in by the majority of Gazans. Trump was voted in by the majority of US voters. Starmer was voted in by UK voters and Netanyahu was voted in by Israeli voters.

That's how democracy works.

Fucking Hitler was voted in by Germany, they thought he was going to improve their quality of life, economy, etc. These people do not show who they are and gain popularity by showing their true faces.

Well- actually Netanyahu has and that says a lot about the Israelis that voted for him.

I'm actually arguing against collective punishment.

Music and festivals have always been political. If you can't cope with anything challenging or provocative then stay at home and listen to a boyband.

Antisemitism isn’t the way to go.

Pleaseshutthefuckup · 29/06/2025 10:50

I'm prepared to be ripped a new one. I have tried to understand what I can regard this conflict.

My consistent feelings are ref public displays.....

  1. Shut the fuck up. People are being massacred on both sides, in hideous ways. I b elieve people on both sides are capable of depravity and given opportunity - many humans regardless of position - scarily, can and will do this.

So celebs etc - shut up. You don't understand it and what you're doing/ saying. I'm not so inclined to go along with ' baddy here and goody over there'.

However.....

2.The thought of a society led by Islam scares me. I am very much anti all religion to be clear. Right now, however, my focus is upon Islam. I don't like it. I don't want it dominating regions of the world that may and in any way then influence the society I want to be in.

I'm happy to discuss if I'm going to be censored on here for that. I will not happily accept any accusations of Islam phobia and removal of my post I will challenge.

I have no answer to all this at all either.

I can't edit for shit apologies.

I think that's a fairly reasonable balanced view.

You've had the balls to say it.

Arabs in Israel have the same vote as Jewish people.

If you're in the occupied areas you don't get a vote because they voted for Hamas and them Hamas ceased elections because they're totalitarian Islamists. That's not Israel's fault - that's how Palestinans chose to live.

👏 👏

Not exactly a free democracy in Israel though is it? Palestinians living under Israeli rule don’t have the right to vote. Shocker!

Jews were living under Arab rule many moons ago.

“That’s how they choose to live”
So Palestinians living in the occupied territories choose to have restricted access to healthcare, have building permits refused because they aren’t Israeli and then having their homes demolished, have their land taken off them even when the Palestinian can prove ownership with deeds, restrictions on their movement all just to name a few.
They just choose to live like that do they?

Moglet4 · 29/06/2025 11:22

Mildorado · 29/06/2025 09:13

However, if you are British Palestinian, you would certainly get a lot of support. You could parade your flag, wear badges and bracelets with your identity clearly shown. Not so much the case for British Jews nowadays.

Except last night my friend was physically and verbally attacked for wearing a Palestinian pin. He wasn’t talking about the topic, he was minding his own business catching up with his mates (fwiw in a non Jewish area). There are badly behaved people among all groups, including Jews.

Quirkswork · 29/06/2025 09:20

It's all pointless. It's a music festival. Go to a political rally if you want other people's political views rammed down your neck. Particularly about something happening in another country where the UK is powerless to do anything. I think we should look at our own country and how racisim is being broadcast by the BBC and how Jewish people are being made to feel frightened. That's something we can and should do something about.

Glastonbury has always been a political festival. In 1981 it was called the Glastonbury CND festival and only became the Glastonbury Music and Arts festival in the 90s. The branding all over the stages is Greenpeace, Oxfam, Wateraid. There a huge areas of the site purely for activisim, Leftfield stage, the Greenpace field, Greenfutures and permaculture areas. Its only when Melvin Benn and the BBC came in to pay for the massive fence in 2000 to appease the local council and it become the polished music event that it is today.

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 29/06/2025 10:20

Oh I'm not talking about the law, the law will do its job but hopefully it will encourage people to learn about some of the atrocities committed by the IDF most recently shooting unarmed innocent civilians trying to get aid. Let's hope the law catches up with those too and justice is served.

So you want to be selective in how justice is applied.

Does that mean the Palestinians brought the murderous hate on themselves by supporting Hamas when they attacked Israelis at a music festival? When we saw Palestinians celebrating afterwards?

or does that only go one way?

and why can you people never spell it properly? It’s Israel not isreal

Has it always been an anti semitic rally though? Those previous incarnations seem a lot less terrifying for one set of people.

mouthpipette · 29/06/2025 11:36

Exactly. For centuries Jews lived in Muslim lands quite contentedly with no desire whatsoever to go to the "Promised Land". Every year millions of Jews (my family included) .would say "Next Year in Jerusalem", but virtually no one ever went Jews in the middle east were happy enough being Jewish, Iraqis, Jewish Iranians, Jewish Moroccans, Jewish Egyptians etc.

It was the Jews in Catholic Spain and then later in Eastern Europe who were in dire straits.

mids2019 · 29/06/2025 11:37

Glastonbury festival organisers have finally apologised and we very much h hope the act will not be invited again. I partly think the Glastonbury organisers were very naive when promoting the festival as one for 'political acitivism'; it has come back to haunt them.
back in the real world there is speculation the 12 day war and its consequent ceasefire any !was to momentum in the Gaza ceasefire process.
