Not really surprised but shows the level of New hatred that IS spreading in the US. Scary times and hope nothing like that happens here.

Washington DC shooting: Two Israeli embassy staff killed in attack near Jewish museum

The man and woman were shot while leaving an event focused on helping Gazans at the Capital Jewish Museum.

Another senseless, tragic death wasting young people’s lives in this unsolvable horror going on.

On the Radio news this morning it said the
couple were about to be engaged. The man had just bought a ring and he planned to propose next week in Jerusalem.

Twiglets1 · 22/05/2025 08:17

Can’t imagine this is going to help the Palestinian cause.

It’s just going to make Trump angry at the point at which his empathy with Netanyahu seemed to be waning.

Yes, I agree.

This!

I despaired this morning when I saw this, just going to give Benjamin Netanyahu more reason not to feed the starving people of Gazza.

UnsocialMedia · 22/05/2025 08:23

Did the murderer not know what the event was about? According to the report it was about helping Gazans, but he allegedly shouted Free Palestine when arrested.

Odras · 22/05/2025 08:23

Absolutely won’t help at all. So senseless as well, what had this couple to do with anything that was going on. They were targeted only because they were Jewish.

Whatsinanamehey · 22/05/2025 09:28

I was so angry when I woke up to see this mindless violence. What is this going to achieve? And yes, the event was about building bridges in the middle east. Shameful.

Martymcfly24 · 22/05/2025 09:36

Absolutely senseless killing of two young people.
Condemnation on every level for their murder.

claretsage · 22/05/2025 09:57

This is desperately sad, especially since it seems as if those young people were supporting an event to try to help Palestinians.

Jewishbookworm · 22/05/2025 09:59

So awful, a young couple at the start of life. :(

Really don't see how it helps anyone.

So so horrible reading the comments on social media about this news piece. On the BBC FB page 99% of the comments were to the effect 'they deserved it'. Horrible people in the world.

Makes me feel very vulnurable. (not Israeli but visibly Jewish)

That's horrible. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so vulnerable.

It does not help anyone, not remotely, you are absolutely right and I am sorry you feel vulnerable.

ExercicenformedeZ · 22/05/2025 14:02

Absolutely shocking. I wonder what the usual suspects will have to say about it.

minsmum · 22/05/2025 14:07

So sad and pointless, their poor families. I am so sorry that you are feeling vulnerable @Jewishbookworm . May their.memory be a blessing

UseNailOil · 22/05/2025 14:31

Terrible.

ArtTheClown · 22/05/2025 15:50

This is the end result of the current discoure - the radicalisation of a man with no specific connection to the conflict, who believes that the targetting of any Jewish person with a perceived connection to Israel is valid.

This!

I despaired this morning when I saw this, just going to give Benjamin Netanyahu more reason not to feed the starving people of Gazza.

Apologies if my post earlier came across as uncaring about the horrific killing of these two innocent young people - I of course feel such sadness for every life that is lost, taken away in this horrible conflict.

mids2019 · 22/05/2025 18:10

I noted today after these horrific killings that the footage of Gaza in the main steam media has lessoned and I don't think this is a coincidence.

For some time after the recent escalation between Hamas and Israel there has been a continuous focus on Gaza with reports being made without adequate fact checking (e.g. 14 000 babies to die in 2 days when in reality it is suggested 14000 babies could experience malnutrition within a year if there is no increase in aid) resulting in an environment which has become toxic for Jews worldwide. The statements made in the house of commons recently while powerful in rhetoric again were made with no anticipation of the impact on ethnic tension within the UK.

I hope people realise the media reporting although absolutely necessary in a free society does come with consequence. I am not saying the terrorist who shot this couple was influenced solely by main stream media but on my view reporting of Gaza cannot but contribute to inflaming people with extreme views

I hope there is more measured reporting on the war which does not inspire anti semitism and editors do not fall into the trap of propagating Hamas propaganda or embellishing reports to continue public interest. Journalism has responsibility.

It's open season for Jew hate. This is such a hate filled evil act.

The reports he shouted 'free palestine' before he killed them. No wonder Jewish people fear hearing it shouted at marches around the world.

Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim - may your memories be a blessing.

Whatsinanamehey · 22/05/2025 18:21

@mids2019 I disagree, the media reports on what they deem most relevant at that time. For a long time the focus was on the Ukraine war. Everytime there is a development in the war there will be live running updates. Same for the Israel - Gaza war, yesterday and the day before the focus was on there as the aid blockade was finally being lifted partially due to US pressure. Today's main focus is on the terrible shooting that took place aswell as other topics such as the Chagos island deal.

EasternStandard · 22/05/2025 18:22

This is so awful and senseless.

According to the BBC Yaron wasn’t Jewish, he’s described as a Christian Zionist.
