Not really surprised but shows the level of New hatred that IS spreading in the US. Scary times and hope nothing like that happens here.

Washington DC shooting: Two Israeli embassy staff killed in attack near Jewish museum

The man and woman were shot while leaving an event focused on helping Gazans at the Capital Jewish Museum.

This is the first time I've had an message deleted. It's really not clear to me as to exactly why. I'll just guess ...

It is ok to ask mumsnet and they are always willing to explain. ( I did not see your post myself.)

KnutonHardz · 22/05/2025 19:30

It's OK ... I'm not too interested really. I'll just delete my MN account now as I don't post or read it much anyway.

ssd · 22/05/2025 19:41

This is a really stupid senseless killing that will achieve nothing.

ArtTheClown · 22/05/2025 20:01

According to the BBC Yaron wasn’t Jewish, he’s described as a Christian Zionist.

He was Messianic Jew.

ArtTheClown · 22/05/2025 20:11

It's also an important point that the murderer wouldn't have known that other of them had any connection to the Israeli embassy - he was targetting Jewish people at a Jewish event.

Namechangedformyanswer · 22/05/2025 21:16

UnsocialMedia · 22/05/2025 08:23

Did the murderer not know what the event was about? According to the report it was about helping Gazans, but he allegedly shouted Free Palestine when arrested.

It was support for gaza. So at an event where Jewish people and others are showing support for Gaza he shoots 2 people. Awful.

ArtTheClown · 22/05/2025 15:50

This is the end result of the current discoure - the radicalisation of a man with no specific connection to the conflict, who believes that the targetting of any Jewish person with a perceived connection to Israel is valid.

Exactly. And it doesn’t solve anything. I hope nothing like this will happen again but who knows

(e.g. 14 000 babies to die in 2 days when in reality it is suggested 14000 babies could experience malnutrition within a year if there is no increase in aid)

The Isrealis are deliberately starving babies and blocking the food supply.

How dare you.

This is indefensible. How dare you defend this.

ArtTheClown · 23/05/2025 20:07

I'm not surprised this act of violence happened. No one can trust the Israelis anymore.

What a disgusting thing to say. The young couple weren't killed because they were Israeli, they were killed because they were Jewish. The gunman planned to kill more, and would have, had his gun not jammed.

So yes it's fucking antisemitism.

The hatred of Jews now is fucking terrifying! It's like the 1930s all over again! Did we learn nothing from world war 2?

I guess that means anyone is perfectly justified in murdering random Russian people, then? After all, every Russian on the planet is personally responsible for the death and destruction in Ukraine, right?

Well some people have learned how to use social media to amplify their hate - so there's that.

Unfortunately, you're right. As a species, we're doomed to repeat the same vile mistakes over and over again.

What a disgusting post

Whatsinanamehey · 23/05/2025 20:29

You can't blame or target all Israelis or Jews for the actions of the Israeli government anymore than you can blame all Palestinians or Muslims for the actions of Hamas. Innocent people should always be protected.

The innocent people who are victims of this violence don’t deserve this post.

This. People are quick to call out right wing extremism but it's like they can't even recognise left wing extremism. " Globalise the intifada" people chant on the marches on London and in the US. It's like being back in Germany in the 1930's. And now it's ended in the murder of these two innocent people. I want to hope that maybe people don't know what they mean chanting these phrases but it's fucking terrifying. If they really cared about innocent people in Gaza they would be marching against Hamas. Not masking themselves up in terrorist flags.

It’s good that mnhq act on posts such as those below but it is very concerning. Online and offline it’s increasingly awful to see.

The comments on social media are disgusting. Celebration and glee at any death makes me despair for humanity. The blatant antisemitism is disturbing, where on earth will it end. May their memory be a blessing.

I saw an account on X with over 60K followers posting gloating celebrations. 22K likes.

QueenOfHiraeth · 23/05/2025 21:54

It's an appalling, senseless murder of two innocent people and shows how the current narrative is whipping up hatred.
It also concerns me that the mainstream media are framing this as a murder of "two Israeli embassy employees" which makes it sound a bit like they were killed in the line of duty rather than a radicalised idiot killing two decent innocent people

Social media is a big problem. That's where a lot ( most?) of people including the privileged ivy league kids are getting their information. And the propaganda is real. And dangerous. They may think differently if they had to live under Sharia law. I think it says a lot when it's the women in Iran protesting, and they get less support than the self serving idiots protesting at US and UK universities.

Why can't Israelis be decent innocent people?
