Just heartbroken watching this. When will their suffering cease?

The hostages being sent back to Israel might help. Those of them that are still alive.

Another question is, how can Israel be reassured that October 7th won't be happening again? As this was the immediate trigger for what appears to be a war.

There needs to be another decent arrangement for governance of Gaza that does not involve Hamas, given their behaviour, but I have no idea how that could happen.

It is a great shame as there were peace initiatives in prospect last year, which Hamas appear to have deliberately derailed by setting all this in motion.

The UN wants the hostages returned and a ceasefire to take hold. Which is what Israel also wants. Why is it not happening....?

Hamas could stop this. The only people who are causing this war to continue are Hamas. Hamas does not care about Palestinian women and children.

Hamas should take responsibility

• for the terrible events of October 7th, particularly targeted at women
• for deliberately derailing attempts at peace in the Middle East
• for trying to undermine Israel as a state
• for deliberately starting what was always going to be a very terrible war with Israel.
• and also for hiding behind hospital, schools, women and children
• having taken a large number of hostages (and treated at least some of them very badly)

That seems to be what happened - that isn't in dispute is it?

If you think that all war is murder, regardless of the rights and wrongs, then I guess what is happening could be called murder.

But if you think that a state has a right to try and prevent further incursions against its citisens to kidnap, rape, torture and murder, then it gets more complicated. There are definitely 2 sides to this.

I'm not Israeli myself, but I think Hamas bears a huge responsibility for what is happening and it doesn't help anyone to pretend otherwise.

If France hopped over, stole a number of babies at gunpoint from the UK and took hostile action to not return them, what would you expect the UK to do?
