I'm sharing this for discussion purposes only. I recognise that there are different opinions on elements of what happened in the terrible events of October 7th. My sharing of this article doesn't mean I agree with everything in it, or deny that horrific events took place. My hope is that we can discuss some of the concerning issues arising from this report.

Scirocco · 21/03/2024 15:32

Thanks for sharing this, @anotherlevel . It's a concerning report. Has there been any official response from the Israeli government?

anotherlevel · 21/03/2024 16:08

@Scirocco Not what I've seen so far. I'll post if I do.

Kindatired · 22/03/2024 16:55

Well there’s no hierarchy of atrocities and there are still civilian hostages. Also ,despite the paucity of verified eye witness accounts of rape or forensics, in the aftermath of an event attended by several thousand, the UN felt there was significant evidence of the use of restraint and degrading treatment.
No matter how grave, two wrongs don’t make a right. If ten times the number had been affected on 7/10, it still wouldn’t justify the use of starvation as a weapon of war or the forced displacement of a population to a place where safety and basic sanitation and healthcare are not available.
The most important thing at the moment is to pause the fighting , get aid in and get as many hostages out as they can before it’s too late.

I started a new thread about the Al Jazeera documentary, as a few of you suggested. I just wanted to wait until I’d seen the full documentary.

UN SPECIAL REPORT: “REASONABLE GROUNDS FOR GENOCIDE THRESHOLD”

The UN Human Rights Council issued a report that finds Israel’s actions in Palestine meet the threshold to be considered by the council as genocide.

I'm in tears listening to her put into words the scale of what has been done to Gaza. I knew it, I've watched it, but having it spoken aloud, and laid out so starkly...

Gaza may have been destroyed, but maybe, just maybe, the world will remember it, and the people who are dying there.

Parkingt111 · 26/03/2024 21:08

People drowned today whilst trying to retrieve aid that was dropped in the sea.
Desperate people who should never have been in a situation to risk their lives like this in the first place

It is a tragedy,” Miller says when asked about the reports in a briefing. “It is not just a tragedy that [these] individuals died trying to get aid. It is a tragedy that they felt so desperate that they had to swim out into the ocean to try and retrieve it in the first place

Un thinks there are enough grounds to think Israel is committing genocide

Surely now the world must come together to put in an international team of peacekeepers? I really know nothing of how it works but this seems to be the best solution.

Peacekeepers to forcibly remove the settlers keeping the borders shut and ensure all future aid gets through, a no fly zone over Gaza, etc?

This was written before the US decided to abstain on the UN ceasefire resolution. Strong words.
"So, the United States has the means to prevent Israel from continuing the war in Gaza, but has done nothing to stop them. It has the latitude to withhold arms shipments to Israel and compel the Israelis to accept a ceasefire, but instead has blocked all permanent ceasefire proposals. It has the leverage to push Israel to implement the ICJ’s interim decision, but instead has chosen to discredit the court’s ruling. It has acknowledged that Israel is, at the very least, limiting the entry of food into Gaza, which even Israeli organizations have identified as a policy of starvation, but has persisted in publicly supporting those responsible for this outrage.
And the United States has behaved in this way knowing that Israel, from the very beginning, has carried out war crimes and crimes against humanity, such as targeting civilians and seeking to ethnically cleanse the Gaza population. Therefore, even if the accusation is harsh, the Americans must think through whether they are willing to carry on with this policy of passive permissiveness, and perhaps one day even face a legal accusation that they were participants in the mass killings in Gaza."

‘A mass assassination factory’: Inside Israel’s calculated bombing of Gaza

Permissive airstrikes on non-military targets and the use of an AI system have enabled the Israeli army to carry out its deadliest war on Gaza.

Arnaud is a great follow, especially on Geopolitics.

On this he is entirely right. We are witnessing the collapse of the Old World Order enforced by might, people are openly noticing the hypocritical do as I say not as I do elite and saying no more.

That's an important article. The Carnegie Institute is one of the top think tanks in the world. Politicians all over the world use it to inform domestic policies. It indicates that there is a greater divide "behind closed doors" and some powerful people may be looking for an off ramp.

Thanks @BelleHathor I find their articles very good. So much to learn.

No problem @Silence1 , just be mindful that they are also a part of the system, so sometimes their reports/articles can be biased towards the current status quo. Another good site om Geopolitics is https://responsiblestatecraft.org/

Footage of Israel killing 2 Palestinians and burying them in the sand

That's horrendous and so upsetting to watch. How can another human stand there and treat another in such a despicable way? I live for the day they get their just deserts.

I suspect they don't see their victims as human beings anymore. I recall someone telling me years ago how they received orders referring to someone as "it". And that was a long time ago now.
