I feel there is a lot to be gained from having moderate people of all faiths and countries engaging in dialogue but to achieve that I think we need to declare what the barriers to peace are. For instance the destruction of the state of Israel is anti Semitic so I think it is a given that Israel needs to remove Hamas as an existential threat. The means of doing this have proved extraordinarily difficult and there has been unfortunately large civilian casualties in Gaza. I think everyone wishes a peaceful resolution to this conflict soon.
However in order to achieve peace there needs to not be a residual sense of vengeance from all concerned and I fear that may be the really hard but to crack. It is obvious that Hamas rely on a jihadist ideology to help support its aims and this ideology as well as fuelling anti semitism is a threat to the wider western community.
To prevent a growth of anti semitsm there needs to be an acknowledgment that there needs to be a two state solution and that the boundaries respect the current territorial borders along which many Israelis have died. I am sure that as in the UK peaceful co existence can ultimately happen but there needs to be an end to the resentment of Palestinians about Israel and vice versa. Surely continued bitterness about decisions made after WW2 can only lead to more bad feeling?
