I'm sorry for the DM link. I want to know what is meant by Israel 'ceasing responsibility for life' means though. I don't understand.

I assume it means they intend to continue down their chosen path of collectively and slowly starving, dehydrating killing whoever survives their carpet bombing and ground invasion by no longer facilitating or supporting any access to basic humanitarian needs, services or infrastructure.

fearfuloffluff · 20/10/2023 15:55

I think it means 'we will kill them probably'

Desertrose2023 · 20/10/2023 15:58

Yes, but obviously because they are the ‘most moral army in the world’ they’ve given advance warning of their plans. This of course makes it all ok.

This is pretty much what I got from it.

flufferknutter · 20/10/2023 16:04

😢 I was worried that this is what it meant. Wtaf is happening? Why can't the UN intervene? I feel sick

Intervene how?

ChickHenLittle · 20/10/2023 16:07

I couldn't find any definitions, but I think in this case, they mean they eventually want no responsibility over people in Gaza, e.g. after this current escalation, they don't intend to be responsible for or assist Gaza in any way.
I don't think they will be leaving many people there alive, unfortunately, and I am dubious about the government's intentions overall. I wouldn't take them at face value.

MissyB1 · 20/10/2023 16:09

At first (optimistically) I hoped it meant Israel would hand the Gaza Strip back to the Palestinians and say “it’s entirely yours we will never seek to control anything to do with Gaza again “.

But actually I fear it just means “we will make sure you are all truly fucked”.

IncompleteSenten · 20/10/2023 16:10

It means forget getting any water from us (them. Israel), you can all die of thirst if you can't find water somewhere else and we won't help.

What can other countries do? Send water I suppose. There's not much other countries can do to force Israel to continue to provide water if they don't want to.

The whole situation is horrendous and it's going to get worse. It's scary.

flufferknutter · 20/10/2023 16:10

So will they actively kill them or starve them to death?

OP posts:
spitefulandbadgrammar · 20/10/2023 16:11

Including the hostages there, presumably.

flufferknutter · 20/10/2023 16:11

This article explains the meaning better:

https://www.ft.com/content/d583f2eb-44f3-48cc-9910-619eac68dcef

The outcome will still not be good, even if it happens. Basically destroying Gaza then taking no responsibility for the fact those who survive will be homeless, hospitals and schools have been destroyed...

Israel plans to sever links with Gaza after three-phase war

Official says ‘umbilical cord’ will be cut with worker crossings stopped

flufferknutter · 20/10/2023 16:13

So can the international community access them to provide aid? This is horrific

OP posts:
RudsyFarmer · 20/10/2023 16:15

I thought Egypt was reassessing their stance and allowing access?

piscofrisco · 20/10/2023 16:20

It means they are going to indiscriminately kill civilians with the stated aim of 'killing Hamas operatives', who will no doubt either by now have fucked off to some safer area somewhere anyway or are down in the tunnels sheltering-In which case it's unclear to me
Why Israel don't just try and extract them rather than bomb everything and everyone else to the ground. It's not as if Hamas are going to be bravely out in the streets fighting for their citizens. They don't give a fuck do they-being terrorists. They will be as safe as it's possible to be be in Gaza right now.

I don't think Israel are allowing them to. There's still ongoing negotiations.

Latest reports say it isn't Egypt blocking aid, they can't get agreement from the Israeli government for more than 20 trucks. An Egyptian minister has said they're angry at the misrepresentation that Egypt are the ones blocking aid.
I don't know exactly who is behind it, but you'd think whoever is blocking it would just agree and put conflict on the back burner for a moment.

Israel handed Gaza over to the Palestinians in 2005.

Why would Israel "help" when Hamas have slaughtered and kidnapped 1,400+ people? Did you ask America to "help" Al Qaeda in the aftermath of 9/11?

These are civilians. Babies, children, the elderly.

OP posts:
piscofrisco · 20/10/2023 16:29

No @PurpleChrayne but America weren't actively bombing and starving 2.5 million people to death in the aftermath of 9/11 were they?

RudsyFarmer · 20/10/2023 16:31

It’s just so complicated and these governments like to complicate things further so the truth never really gets out.

crumblingschools · 20/10/2023 16:34

@PurpleChrayne don't Israel pretty much treat Gaza as a prison at the best of times, now they are not going to let them have food, water and electricity

megletthesecond · 20/10/2023 16:35

That (mostly innocent) people will die but it won't be their problem. There's nasty violent men on both sides of this.
