Struggling to find an active Letrozole thread. Recently been prescribed Letrozole as I have low progesterone and signs of ovulation not being as effective as it could be, albeit I still ovulate on my own.

Would love to hear success stories or chat to people who are going through TTC with letrozole now x

Hey! I'm on letrozole. I've got PCOS and we've been TTC for 3 years. Had 1 successful round in a July 2022 which sadly ended in a MC at 5+4 weeks. Tried another 3 cycles without success and decided to take a year off medication, again with no success.
Now back on letrozole, 2nd round and just got another positive at 11DPO. Tentatively happy but worried about having another early MC as I've been getting brown spotting since I tested positive. Crossing everything that it sticks 🤞🤞🤞

Have you started medication yet?

@Loz365 that's a great line for 11dpo, congratulations! Spotting can be normal and likely to be implantation bleeding? Did you have any symptoms of pregnancy?

I ovulate regularly (usually CD18-21, although this month was CD23) confirmed with BBT and progesterone tests but the consultant has said that because my LP is 10-11 days & I sometimes spot by 9DPO and I have low progesterone he wants me to try letrozole to give my ovulation a boost as he doesn't think I'm ovulating as effectively as I should. I'm so hoping it works 🤞🏼.

I haven't started yet, I start next cycle which is due Sunday. What days did you take letrozole? Did you have many side effects? X

Loz365 · 29/02/2024 05:10

@Angelselevenx thank you! Yea I'm hoping it's implantation bleeding, it seems to stop for a while then start again.
My LP is usually on 9-10 days so my period was due at the weekend which is why I tested. I'd been getting cramps too, different to my usual period cramps. That's the only real symptom I noticed!

I took it days 2-6. I took it the evening and I had a few hot flushes in the night which meant I didn't sleep particularly well but that was it! Will you be having scans etc?

Angelselevenx · 29/02/2024 06:36

@Loz365 will your clinic offer you an early scan? That's good to know, I did see somewhere to take them at night so I think I'll do that. Did it help to increase your LP as well? Mines low too, 10-11 days.

I'm not no, not yet anyway the dr just said I'd do 1/2 rounds first and I've got a follow up call in 6 weeks to see how I'm getting on and then I guess he will offer scans at that point but I could be wrong. Are you being scanned?

Have you done another test? X

Hi @Angelselevenx I was prescribed letrozole in august last year, as my fertility doctor believed I’ve got luteal phase defect. Amazingly, I actually conceived that cycle before I even took the medication but unfortunately had a miscarriage at 14 weeks.

im now just coming to the end of my third unmedicated cycle post miscarriage and am considering giving Letrozole a go soon. Just want to make sure I’ve given my body enough time to recover before I start putting medication in it.

im waiting on the results of my “day 21” blood test, so will be interesting to see. I also get spotting every month before my period, which is irritating. Doctor seemed very optimistic that Letrozole would work for us, so here’s hoping!

wishing you the best of luck x

Angelselevenx · 29/02/2024 09:51

Hi @Frankie2607 thank you for sharing your story and I'm so sorry for your loss.

How long were you TTC before you were prescribed letrozole? How long is your luteal phase? I'm assuming you ovulate on your own with no issues as well other than the LP defect?

It's a good idea to give your body a break, let us know if you decide to use letrozole again.
Doctor seemed very positive about letrozole for us as well, he thinks my low progesterone is what's causing issues. My result was 19 and it should've been over 30 and I also spot before periods too! Best of luck to you as well, keep us updated x

Loz365 · 29/02/2024 09:54

@Angelselevenx yep I've got a scan booked for 18th March, I'll be 7 weeks then, praying it's a sticky bean 🙏
It didn't seem to make a huge difference to my LP, maybe made it a day longer but I did notice a lot more symptoms around ovulation - EWCM, some cramps, which I never have normally. And my day 21 progesterone results were all pretty high - 42 and 70!
I had scans the first couple of cycles to make sure I wasn't overstimulated, which I actually was in my first cycle and they had to reduce the dose because I had 4 follicles!! I was on a high dose though. This is my second go at taking letrozole, I was on it 2 years ago when I had the MC and I needed 7.5mg to get me ovulating, this time round they said go back on 7.5mg again but it was too high and I'm now on 5mg which worked without overdoing it 😆

I haven't tested again today, trying not to stress about testing this time. We're going away this weekend so trying to hold out until we're back next week to test again. I've done a digital though!

@Frankie2607 so sorry to read about your MC 😔
I took a whole year off medication after mine and it seems to have helped. My cycles are now regular and I'm taking a lower dose of letrozole so I think a break definitely helps sometimes!
Good luck if you do decide to try again with medication x

Frankie2607 · 29/02/2024 10:43

@Angelselevenx Thank you ♥️

Id say around a year. I initially went to talk about my spotting and if this was affecting my fertility. Didn’t think I’d be taken seriously! I’d say my luteal phase is around 9-10 days at most. Ovulation tests have always shown I ovulate normally, so as long as they’re accurate then I think so.

ahh that’s really interesting to hear your results. I hope this gives you what you want x

Frankie2607 · 29/02/2024 10:44

@Loz365 Thank you. Sorry to hear about your loss too, but wishing you all the best with this pregnancy ♥️

Angelselevenx · 29/02/2024 10:51

@Frankie2607 same as us, we're on cycle 13 although I got referred back in August cause of the long waits.

I track my BBT so I know I definitely ovulate, do you track BBT or just use LH strips? X

Just popping by to say we were prescribed letrozole after trying for a long time. Signs of ovulation but low progesterone.

Overall our tests were borderline normal and so the consultant put us in the unexplained fertility category and advised to go down the ivf route. Letrozole was prescribed in the meantime, whilst waiting for the referral paperwork. We were so lucky to get pregnant in cycle 1 of 3 and now I have a 2 year old so never did get the paperwork!

Angelselevenx · 29/02/2024 11:00

@Jonesy88 thank you so much for your positive story 😊

Frankie2607 · 29/02/2024 12:00

@Angelselevenx I use the clear blue digital ovulation thing. It’s pricey, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind it brings (well, on the one hand!!).

feel like we all got lied to when we got told making a baby was easy 😂😞

@Jonesy88 that’s such a good, positive story to hear!! ☺️

Angelselevenx · 29/02/2024 14:29

@Frankie2607 ah yes I've got those although I'm crap at remembering to use them early on haha. Let us know if you decide to use Letrozole.

AF is due on Sunday/Monday for me so as soon as that's arrived I'll be taking my first tablet on CD2 x

Loz365 · 29/02/2024 14:40

@Angelselevenx good luck! Got everything crossed for you! X

Angelselevenx · 04/03/2024 12:40

AF arrived right on time last night but it was late and quite light. Should I class that as CD1 or today as CD1 as it's still light today but still here? Want to make sure I'm taking Letrozole on the right days! X

OP posts:
Loz365 · 04/03/2024 16:33

@Angelselevenx I was told that if it started late in the evening to take the next day as day 1 unless it was super heavy. Seems to have always worked for me!

Angelselevenx · 04/03/2024 16:46

@Loz365 fabulous thank you! I'll start it tomorrow 🤞🏼😊

Angelselevenx · 04/03/2024 16:49

@Loz365 how are you doing?

OP posts:
Loz365 · 04/03/2024 17:46

@Angelselevenx good luck!

I'm doing okay thank you 😊 got my first scan in 2 weeks and just counting down the days 😂 Currently in France which is a nice distraction from the wait. I don't really have any pregnancy symptoms so it doesn't feel quite real yet, also worrying and MC early again so a bit anxious about everything atm!

Daydreaming91 · 05/03/2024 16:49

Hi all,

Sorry to read about the MC's but congratulations on your positive test! Sending you the most positive thoughts.

We have been ttc for just over a year, I have been diagnosed with PCOS and was recommended letrozole.

We had our first 'test' cycle if you like to check the dose was right and my day 21 bloods confirmed ovulation (yay). I got my period today so although disappointed it didn't work they did play around with my cycle last month to test the letrozole and was told not to bother testing ovulation that month. They have told me to treat this cycle as our first medicated cycle so here we go....

I've been told to start my meds Thursday and then I have a day 10 scan on 15th to check my follicles.

Hopefully we can support each other through it as this journey can feel very lonely.

Fingers crossed for us all!

Hi guys so glad I found this thread.
just a background I was diagnosed with pcos at a very young age due to irregular periods. The longest I went without a period was 6 months.

fast forward now 34 and have been trying for nearly 2 years. I am under a fertility hospital now. They did blood test, hsg X-ray to check if my tubes were blocked, all test came out good

hubby had an SA analysis and all was fine so they gave me 5 mg letrozole in December . I had to take provera to kick start my period. Anyway I took letrozole from cd 2-6 went in for a scan on cd 9 and then cd 12 and I had one dominant follicle , the doctor told me to baby dance and then come in for a progesterone blood test to see if I ovulated . My result was 34nmol . Anyway I didn’t conceive that cycle and for the first time in my life I had a 30 day cycle.
now onto 2nd cycle I had to go for a baseline scan to check that there wasn’t any cyst on ovaries and again the doctor gave me 5 mg of letrozle but this time they gave me 5 months in total and said I didn’t need monitoring as they were happy how I responded to the medication and so gave me 6 months in total. So cycle 2 I took the the letrozole for 5 days has no scanning done but I got a progesterone test done privately on cd 21 and the result was a whooping 79nmol. However I came on my period on cd 29. Now cycle 3 of letrozole took the same dose for 5 days . I had same ovulation pains as cycle 1 and 2 . This time I didn’t get a private blood test done as my doctors told me you will ovulate again and again on letrozole. Now I am cd35 and no sign of period. I havnt taken a test because I don’t want to break my heart. The only symptom I’m getting is a slight stitch pain on left side and more painful when Baby dancing. And my nipples are very sore especially when i am cold sorry tmi.
so my question is do you think I ovulated this month and just take a test or wait it out till Sunday. I don’t know what my natural cycle is as my periods were very irregular before I took letrozole. Looking foward to some replies xxxx

Loz365 · 05/03/2024 23:00

@Daydreaming91 thanks! So pleased letrozole worked for you, took us 3 cycles to get this positive so fingers crossed for you!

@Dija89 letrozole always worked for me and I had fairly regular and short cycles with it. I would definitely be testing!!

I think I finally got my dye stealer today. Never got that far with the MC so hoping it's a good sign 🙏

@Loz365 awww congratulations darling. I hope it all goes well.
mom just so scared to test just in case it’s negative 😔
but I know I have to test. I hate the fact that I didn’t check if i ovulated this month(the month where I havnt got my period yet) but I know I got ovulation pains.
I guess there is 2 things

  1. I ovulated and am pregnant 2) I didn’t ovulate so no period . do you think it’s likely to ovulate on 2 cycles and then not ovulate on the next cycle 😐
