TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

Hi @RaisingCornishWildlings wanted to reply as ttc after miscarriage too. Sorry for your loss 😔 I can't really help with symptoms as mine are always identical to my period- fun! But wanted to reply as I am now ttc after a missed miscarriage with my third baby at 10 weeks found at my 12 wk scan. (I have two children already).

I ovulated a few weeks after as I tested to avoid pregnancy as we weren't ready. Just starting to try this month. My cycle seems strange! Had weird ewcm looking stuff the day after my period so strange. So just going to act like I'm 28 day cycle and see what happens.

Easier said than done but try to not think about it until your period is due is what I've always found works best to not drive me nuts!

Here if you need to vent though

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 21:28

So sorry for your loss too @Claudiasaz.

I have such irregular cycles, I have no idea when my period would be due! So I'm just assuming that I did just ovulate. I'll pee on a stick in a fortnight and hope for the best!

What ages are your two children? X

Hi both, id love to join. So sorry to hear of your losses ♥️

I started TTC last year but sadly have had 3 losses, our daughter at 25 weeks and then this year 2 early losses at 5 and 5+4. I sadly don't have any living children but about to get back to TTC. I'm currently early in my cycle so waiting for my fertile week. I try not to obsess with MN too much but sometimes it is really reassuring to hear from others x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 25/10/2023 09:20

Oh @Vic231 my heart goes out to you 💔

I can't begin to imagine the heart ache from losing a Baby at 25 weeks. One of my best friends lost her first baby (daughter) at a similar gestation and to me she is one of the bravest women I know.

I'm trying not to obsess but it's nice to be in company with other Mummas going through similar!

Me and DH are going to be DTD a lot for 3 weeks with crossed fingers as he's in the Navy and will be deploying mid Nov for at least a month, possibly until after Christmas!

Then he's away again in Jan- March so our conceiving chances are dwindling!!

Xxx

Thank you @RaisingCornishWildlings and so sorry to hear about your friend. It is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Unfortunately our daughter was so poorly which we only found out at the 20 week scan which was a huge shock and then several weeks of hell followed. I think that's why I can't quite believe the next two BFPs have turned into early losses.

The EPU have been amazing though and put me forward for recurrent loss testing, I've had the bulk of tests done and all has come back in the normal range. I've got a blood test today for day 3 tests and then rightly or wrongly we are going to carry on trying whilst we wait for the consultant appointment. They've said if I fall again, I will be prescribed progesterone. My only worry with that is how soon you can take it, I've read some that say from 6 weeks (which with the last two I didn't make it that far) and others straight from ovulation!

That is really tough with your husband away. You'll just have to keep DTD at any given opportunity 😂 fingers crossed for you! x

Claudiasaz · 25/10/2023 10:59

@RaisingCornishWildlings I have 3.5 and 1.5. We wanted another but weren't planning and fell pregnant with baby #3 I found out quite late around 6 weeks and this is what ended in missed miscarriage.

@Vic231 wow. I'm so sorry for your losses. You are so strong after everything you have been through. I hope they can get some answers for you and stop you having to go through any more loss. Mine was really hard for me, so I can't imagine what you have been through.

I always find "trying" stressful. It's so easy for me to say don't test early, don't symptoms watch. But I have to remind myself the same 😂 I am just trying to look after myself, obviously sex at the "right times" and other than that I will wait for my period and see. Be great to have some ladies to check in with and vent when going baby trying crazy 🤣

RaisingCornishWildlings · 27/10/2023 10:31

awww @Claudiasaz with my 3 kids I didn't find out til 5-6 weeks with all. It was a new experience with the latest pregnancy to find out right from the off- abs miscarriage earlier than I'd even know about the others' existences!

I'm trying desperately not to focus on every twinge but I had some mild cramping earlier this morning - hoping for implantation pains?! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Claudiasaz · 27/10/2023 10:58

Fingers crossed for you @RaisingCornishWildlings that it happens for you this month ❤️ keep yourself nice and busy 😂 do you usually get any signs? Guessing not if finding out later like me. Just feels like my period is coming. Cruel isn't it lol

RaisingCornishWildlings · 27/10/2023 16:16

@Claudiasaz I didn't know with the first/ he was entirely unplanned! The second was planned and the first thing I got was runners diarrhoea at about 5 ish weeks which prompted me to take the test after my firstborn kept saying "baby" (a brand new word he'd never said before!)

The third, I kept thinking I might be pregnant as had no period (but the covid vaccination stopped my periods so it was a shock!)

This one I've just lost, I had mild cramping one day, a tiny bit of spotting the following day which I thought was AF arriving but then nothing further so I did a test and it was a very very very faint "squinter" of a positive. 2 days later it was still faint but definitely a line xxx

Claudiasaz · 28/10/2023 13:27

@RaisingCornishWildlings aww. I have used ovulation tests for the first time trying now as my cycle is just weird. I had a positive on Wednesday on the ov test and a negative the next day but have still got the fertile lady stuff so a bit confused. Kind of wish I didn't use them but also get why I did. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ do either of you use them or have used them? I'm new to the ov test game. @Vic231

RaisingCornishWildlings · 29/10/2023 02:32

No I haven't used OPK. Well I bought some cheapo strips on eBay but on the times I tried, even dipping for like 20 secs, no line appeared not even a control!

I have a rather irregular cycle though! Will see if we were lucky this time or not, but as hubby is about to be away a lot, I think it's best to just crack on and DTD as much as we can when he's around 😂😂

OP posts:
Claudiasaz · 29/10/2023 09:26

I do them at night don't know if that's why? Anyway it's done now we'll see soon enough. Going mad already waiting 😂

RaisingCornishWildlings · 29/10/2023 09:46

I've got a smear test booked for Tuesday- will POS tomorrow morning and Tuesday morning but even if neg I'll only be I think, not sure 8/9DPO so could well be too early for a positive anyway! But think I might need to cancel the smear just in case I am pregnant !

OP posts:
RaisingCornishWildlings · 29/10/2023 11:22

TMI update 7DPO (assumed ovulation I should add!) - cramps and lots of discharge. Is this a positive sign? Hoping so !

OP posts:
Claudiasaz · 30/10/2023 15:01

@RaisingCornishWildlings I would cancel it just to be on the safe side!

I honestly have no idea about signs. But aren't we meant to "dry up" near our period? So maybe it's a good sign.

I genuinely have had no signs with any of my pregnancies apart from the last as was further along. I think that's what is driving me mad 😂 Just have to wait to come on period or not. It's no fun is it. haha

mumsince2021 · 30/10/2023 19:27

Hi @RaisingCornishWildlings I think we were in the same June 2024 MN Facebook group. I've just dropped off today as I've lost my pregnancy at 5 weeks too. I have a 22 month old so I know I've been able to have a successful pregnancy before but I've also had 2 similar losses in 2020 before I had my son. I'm feeling really deflated as I hate to say but the first loss I had seemed to screw with my hormones and we really struggled to conceive again I started having mid cycle spotting which had never happened before the loss. We caught on our first ever attempt TTC in January 2020 and after the loss we continued trying again straight away but it took until August for our next positive which was another loss at 5 weeks. Then we didn't catch again until April 2021. I'm trying to keep positive though as you are and getting straight back to trying again as soon as the bleed ends. Just wanted to leave a message to say you're not alone anyway and it sucks... but let's keep going and fingers crossed you've had some luck this cycle! Keep us posted

mumsince2021 · 30/10/2023 19:28

Speaking of smears... I actually conceived my son the cycle after my last smear so I wondered if she cleared a path for us 😂 so if you reschedule for just after this cycle if it's unsuccessful maybe the same luck will hit you

RaisingCornishWildlings · 30/10/2023 19:56

Oh @mumsince2021 I'm so so sorry for your losses.
It's such an emotional rollercoaster, sending baby dust your way and hope you catch quickly this time once you're ready to get going again!

I think I feel very mildly nauseous today; but equally thinking it might be just due to tiredness or my body fighting off the germs my children have bought into the house! Still got some crampy aches as well so it's got to be a sign, surely?! I think I'll keep POS this week as I have a lot of cheapies from eBay, and just keep hoping for some good news! X

Hope you're looking after yourself at this horrid time xxx

So sorry for your loss ❤️ @mumsince2021

Claudiasaz · 30/10/2023 22:46

I was just thinking and wondering if any of you ladies can shed some light on this.... it might even sound stupid but this is how my brain is going this week. Fun times 😬

When I had my missed MC I had to have medical management and I was still showing positive on a test (just standard test not an early tester) 3.5 weeks later so had to be rescanned to check everything had "come away" as they said. 😭 they told me to not do any more tests as scan was clear....

7 weeks since my missed MC... Would that pregnancy still show on an early results test 🤨

RaisingCornishWildlings · 31/10/2023 03:06

Hey Claudia, I've no experience of MC apart from this one I've just had, but my understanding was that even if everything had "come away", there could still be lingering HCG in the blood, so taking the test is to verify you're "back to zero".
So not having the zero test from your MMC means you don't have a base line to work from? That being said, 7weeks seems a jolly long time- soooo tentative congratulations for you?!! X

OP posts:
mumsince2021 · 31/10/2023 10:35

@Claudiasaz surely by 7 weeks it would be negative? I think I read somewhere it can take 1 to 8 weeks after miscarriage for it to drop completely so at 7 weeks I'd expect it most likely would be gone. How obvious a line are we talking? 🤞

@RaisingCornishWildlings have you tested to check if hCG has dropped yet? I had a line yesterday when the bleeding and cramping started but the line was much lighter than before so it's on the way down. My previous chemicals it was negative before bleeding kicked in so this is a bit different. I'll maybe test again at the end of the week to check it's negative before we start again.

I tell you what I'm done with the expensive pregnancy tests I've wasted so much on CB digital weeks ones trying to see the 3+ and they literally are blank a day later what a waste. Tenner straight into the bin 🤦‍♀️ I know now these cheap strips can show progression and do the job so I'm sticking with them from now on.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 31/10/2023 13:15

@mumsince2021 so on the Weds which was the second day of bleeding; I went to the EPU, they scanned me and did bloods then I had to go back on the Friday for more bloods. The HcG had dropped a lot and she said by the Monday/Tuesday I should have a negative pee test, which I did!

Yeah I don't buy the expensive tests anymore just the cheapies- and often the cheap ones are really sensitive according to what's printed on the packet!

I'm now obsessively peeing on ovulation ones as I really have no idea what my cycle might be doing.

I did HCG test yesterday and today which are absolutely definitely entirely negative- not even a hint of a squinter, but the ovulation ones seem to be showing a spike! I feel like I've ruled out the fact it can't be HcG, so must be LH! 🤞🤞

It's my first ovulation tracking rodeo and I'm hoping that this surge is actually causing an egg release- as hubs leaves in about a fortnight for potentially 6-7 weeks!

We managed a quickly this morning haha, hiding from the kids- not the sexiest session we've ever had !! I'm gonna jump him again later!

It looked positive for fertile window last night and the 2am one seemed lower which seems weird, but this one about 11am seemed super high. I bought boots own brand sticks just now and tested the 11am wee with one of those to compare to the strip- both seem to be showing a good surge! 🤞🤞🤞

In the photo, bottom two are 11am wee, the other two "high" ones are the same wee at 8.30pm yesterday (I thought the first hadn't taken so I did a second strip!)

Yeah that's looking like a good surge @RaisingCornishWildlings 🤞 I used to use ovulation tests back when I started TTC in 2020 but soon gave up as the months passed. Eventually just before I got pregnant with my son I started BBT temperatures and I found that easier in a way as it was one temperature on waking and that was it... it meant I saw the ovulation day when I conceived him too which was surprising early at CD10! I might get back into the temperatures again in a couple of months if we have no luck. I was trying to keep the trying more casual and stress free as they always say less stress more likely to happen but after this loss it's impossible not to now... just want it so bad!

Vic231 · 31/10/2023 13:31

Sorry you are here @mumsince2021 but welcome ♥️

I'm feeling really flat today. I'm not sure ovulation tests are helping me and in turn I feel like I'm pressuring my DH 🤦🏻‍♀️ if we aren't successful this cycle, I think I will ditch them for the next one!

On that note: is it possible to have 'low' readings and then have the surge one day and then straight back to low the next? Basically I didn't do any tests on Sunday as I was driving pretty much all day and my predicted ovulation day was yesterday but so far all the tests have been 'low' so I'm wondering if my peak was typically on Sunday... or is it possible to not get a peak at all?! I'm very new to OPKs (if you couldn't tell 😂)

My cycles are quite short 21-23 days so I ovulate pretty much straight away, which makes me think it was my surge on Sunday 🤦🏻‍♀️
