TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

@Vic231 from what I've read there are different types- some people surge v quickly, others can have a smaller spike then a main peak, some have more of a plateau of LH. If you Google "types of Lh surge" you might get some info. Xxx

Sorry I haven't done a test. Was just checking! Just got in from work so will read all updates later but just wanted to update no tests yet 😂

Claudiasaz · 31/10/2023 20:13

Hi ladies.

Ovulation wise I've never tracked it until now and I can see good and bad to it. I've found doing the test around 9pm is when I found the surge and tested when I was getting ovulation symptoms. I am by no means an expert though! Can also see how they get addictive.

I am going to try and wait and see if my period comes or not re- taking a test. Purely for my mental health 😭😂

mumsince2021 · 01/11/2023 09:00

Everyone suggests that early losses are usually due to chromosome problems which I believed was probably the case for me but I was reading about miscarriages earlier and I've read in a few places that recurrent chemicals tend to indicate anatomical uterine abnormalities rather than chromosome problems. I'm starting to feel pretty awful now as before I took some comfort in the fact that the embryos were likely just not viable but the thought of those being absolutely fine and my body being the problem is quite upsetting. I should really stop reading these things... I know it's possible to have a baby as I've had my son but 😩

Claudiasaz · 01/11/2023 10:51

@mumsince2021 The internet is a good and bad place. Google is the enemy sometimes. Have the hospital given you any support for looking into it? Sending hugs x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 01/11/2023 11:05

@mumsince2021 try to take it all with a. Pinch of salt, there's so much conflicting stuff on the internet. If you are reading stuff like that, try to find results from peer reviewed proper studies with verifiable sources. And as you say, remember that you've successfully carried and birthed before, so try to stay positive!!

I have had about a week of cramping, and this morning looks like I've got a second LH surge. Really want to know when the egg is going to drop! 😂. And talking of Googling- apparently more ovulation cramping (and more peaks with LH levels) can be a sign of hyper ovulation/multiple ovulation- so I'll be panicking about twins now! Xx

@RaisingCornishWildlings Aw imagine😱 that would be a blessing after a MC though!

How is everyone doing today?

I'm driving myself nuts in the 2week wait. 🫠

RaisingCornishWildlings · 02/11/2023 12:56

@Claudiasaz how many DPO are you?
I think it was O-day for me today as my OPK this morning was really quite faint, so we DTD again this morning as well as yesterday, and twice the day before 😂😂. My poor husband is exhausted haha!

I know I'm going to go insane symptom spotting EVERY. SINGLE. THING now. And hubby will likely be going away around the time I would expect a period, so I'm hoping I might be able to get a positive before he goes! My plan is to keep it quiet and put the positive test in his bag for him to find! ❤️

Claudiasaz · 02/11/2023 13:08

@RaisingCornishWildlings that's so lovely! Hopefully it was your ov today. My surge was faint day before, then positive for one evening and then faded by the next day so I must have a short one. I felt like I was ovulating though but who knows. There's so many variables too right.

I'm due on next week. It's so hard not to spot symptoms. I was still breastfeeding when I was pregnant in the summer so my periods were all over the place which is how I fell pregnant- so I can't really remember what I feel like when I'm due on or newly pregnant as I was oblivious this last one 😂

RaisingCornishWildlings · 02/11/2023 16:23

I'm still feeding too! I haven't stopped in almost 7 years as fed through pregnancies 2 and 3 and then tandem fed!

With the boys, my periods didn't come back until about 14m post partum so was a shock after DD that they made an appearance after 9m!!

Yes, so many variables- I think sometimes I get period like pain during OV but not every cycle- so I'm wondering if some cycles I don't release an egg? Who knows- but so much cramping for about 5 days (seems to have vanished now!) n and the surge means I feel pretty confident that an egg is in there (hopefully just the one !!)

At least we can be waiting buddies together- sending crossed fingers and baby dust your way xxxx

Ohh sounds like your both on to the second stretch now! I'm only just reaching the end of the bleeding now but I tend to have short cycles and ovulate early around day 11 so might not be too long until we can try 🤞 I actually stopped breastfeeding when I got this positive test weeks ago... I was only a bedtime feed though he was pretty much fully weaned but I feel a bit sad too that I rushed him off that for this and it didn't even stick 🥺 I was scared to be breastfeeding while pregnant incase it screwed anything up. My periods took about 9 months to come back postpartum.

I actually just read yesterday that women typically only ovulate a maximum of ten times a year so it got me thinking that some months we are trying and there's not even a chance there 🤦‍♀️

Had a tough day today it was my office working day and my desk I booked was next to a heavily pregnant lady who was complaining to her colleague most of the afternoon about her symptoms and it was just triggering. Obviously she had no idea she was sat beside someone bleeding having just had a loss but it hurt 😩

Blueskies4 · 02/11/2023 21:26

Hi ladies, hoping you won’t mind me joining on..

I’m TTC currently too after a bit of a rocky road the last 14 months with 3 miscarriages (trying for our 2nd child), the most recent of which was in March. I’ve fallen pregnant quickly before (1st/2nd cycle) but this time I’m on my 4th cycle and still no BFP.. periods have also gone a bit squiffy with mid Cycle spotting the last couple of months.. so in summary I’m having a hoot!

I’m really sorry for your losses. Pregnancy/baby loss is just awful xx

RaisingCornishWildlings · 02/11/2023 21:42

@mumsince2021 oh goodness me that is tough, I really feel for you- you have every right to feel triggered by that- I would be a complete mess.

I'm swaying between hope on hope/excitement about what is to come, anxiety that it might not have worked/ or will result in another loss, and such sadness that my little bean isn't still tucked up in there- I should be 7 weeks now. Such a tricky and emotional time

@Blueskies4 welcome on board! I'm so so sorry for your losses, it must be so hard to stay optimistic and up beat after 3 MC, sending a lot of love your way. So frustrating when your body doesn't play ball either. I hate not knowing what's going on in there, constantly worrying "am I ovulating? Is there even an egg? Is it viable?" And now my DH is fretting that his swimmers won't succeed and putting pressure on himself as well 😂😂

once there's a baby you can feel wriggling around it makes it a bit better (though I then have huge anxiety when it doesn't move for a bit- all 3 kids i went in for monitoring for reduced movements and it was fine every single time 😂😂)

Hopefully we will all be on a journey for the next 9 months and beyond, really do have my fingers crossed for us all!

Xxx

Welcome @Blueskies4 it's nice to have more company here but never nice to know more people are suffering losses! I had mid cycle spotting that started after my first ever loss back in February 2020 it certainly does seem to mess things up at times. I'm going to take a cheap pregnancy test strip tomorrow to see if it's negative by now and hopefully we can start trying again this weekend or early next week. I'm quite dreading the next time we see a positive test (if we ever do) because it's going to be impossible to get excited having had 3 of these now.

@RaisingCornishWildlings I remember the same fear at the end of pregnancy with minimal movement 😅 I think it was because there was so little space by the end though! It feels like an age since I was heavily pregnancy even though it was just 2 years ago now.

Blueskies4 · 03/11/2023 07:41

@RaisingCornishWildlings yeah it’s nice to reach a point in a pregnancy where you can relax a little. I was the same with my daughter, ended up at hospital with reduced movements a couple of times.

@mumsince2021 sorry you’re going through a shitty time, it’s awful waiting for a negative test. Did your spotting resolve itself or did you get tests? I’ve started getting Accupuncture and both ladies that have treated me feel it may be low progesterone - I went to the docs and I'm waiting for a referral atm.

Crossing my fingers for you all ladies x

Blueskies4 · 03/11/2023 08:07

@RaisingCornishWildlings to answer your original question the earliest I’ve tested positive is CD22 which was about 11 DPO.. I always have a pretty good feeling (sore/bigger boobs, irritable mood and tiredness - all more so than just period ) before my missed period and have always tested a couple of days before and been positive. With the pregnancy I tested positive at 11DPO I seem to remember I wasn’t as sure, probably because it was that bit earlier (I tested early because we were heading off on holiday that day and I wanted a drink on the plane 😂)!

Claudiasaz · 03/11/2023 08:15

Morning ladies. Hope you're all doing okay.

@RaisingCornishWildlings I stopped bf around 9 weeks preg as I was dying 😂 I get a lot of sickness so I literally couldn't cope. You are superwoman to be able to it pregnant! Hats off to you x

@mumsince2021 I'm so sorry. That is so so tough. I still find it hard to be around pregnant people so it's totally normal to feel that way. It's certainly made me think about things if/when I'm pregnant again - with regard to others who maybe struggling. Things will get better for you really soon x

@Blueskies4 hey welcome to our mini group 😂 so sorry for your losses. We are all here any time for any thoughts or qs as you can see x

Claudiasaz · 03/11/2023 08:16

@mumsince2021 also hope you get the negative today to be able to move forward. 🙏

Claudiasaz · 03/11/2023 09:21

@RaisingCornishWildlings so sorry missed what you said about the mix of feelings. I am the same as you. I would be about 18 weeks now I think. Trying not to think about it too much at the moment. We will always have a special place for the babies who didn't make it. For whatever reason it wasn't meant to be as cruel as it is. (Only we are allowed to say that though. Actually had a friend who said that to me after I told her what happened at my scan 😱 safe to say haven't spoken since).

Positive thoughts for the next pregnancy ❤️ I do have a counsellor who I speak to once a week and it's really helped. I did stop for a few weeks and realized I keep a lot in so speaking to her is a good outlet. As are we to each other here 😂

mumsince2021 · 03/11/2023 10:36

There's still a very faint line on my test this morning so I don't have much hope of ovulation happening anytime soon. I'd be classed as CD 6 if this was a period and I usually ovulate day 10-11 so would typically have to get on it as soon as the period ended so around now. I should really buy some LH strips to see what's going on shouldn't I?

I think if I have another early loss I might try asking the GP for progesterone... I can see them saying no since we conceived and had our son without anything but 4 early losses you'd think my body needs a bit of help! It might have been total luck with my son and not happen again

RaisingCornishWildlings · 03/11/2023 13:21

@mumsince2021 if it's very faint then why don't you wait til Monday and test again? I bet it'll be negative by then- and hopefully by the end of this month you might be pregnant again 🤞🤞

I have an irregular but normally longer cycle and I had my LH peak 3 weeks to the day after I started bleeding.

How's everyone doing today?

I had a busy day yesterday and was supposed to go out for my friend's 40th last night but I bailed as I had a horrid anxiety attack before I needed to get ready.

This morning I felt utterly drained from it all though have been pottering out with the kids having a very quiet day and feel calmer this afternoon/evening.

Trying to put the TWW out of my mind otherwise it's seriously going to drag- plus I only have that much time before hubby is likely to deploy so I don't want to wish it away!

I'm trying to manage my own expectations by telling myself we absolutely haven't been successful this cycle and that I'll have my period in a couple of weeks!

Hope you ladies are feeling more positive than me! X

Claudiasaz · 04/11/2023 20:08

@mumsince2021 Hope you're doing okay today?

@RaisingCornishWildlings ah that sucks, sounds like you've had a tough day. Completely understandable not feeling up to lots of socializing given what you've just been through. Hope you get a rest tomorrow too.

I loved how positive you were, thinking about how you'd tell your hubby etc. I think it's good to try and picture both scenarios and think about how you'll feel either way so it's not a shock if it's not what you want. That's what I'm trying to do anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 I know I'll struggle if I get my period but equally know it can go either way and so many things involved when making babies!

Blueskies4 · 04/11/2023 22:30

@RaisingCornishWildlings ah hope you’re doing much better tonight? That sounds awful. Glad you’ve managed to have a slower day.

That sounds Like a really positive approach..

I’ve been spotting the last couple of days so pretty certain my periods enroute! X

RaisingCornishWildlings · 05/11/2023 21:49

@Blueskies4 do you think the spotting could have been implantation or has AF made her grand appearance?!

By yesterday evening I felt a lot calmer, and had another pretty chilled day today.

Desperately trying not to symptom spot as only 3DPO so I KNOW anything is just progesterone related and could be pregnancy or impending AF but I have a very spotty chin (not normal for me!) and v v mild cramping feeling when I was making the kids' dinner. Oh and quite a lot of white,creamy/slightly egg whitey CM when I went to the loo as well.
