TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

Hi all! Can I join? MMC almost 4 weeks ago at my 12 week scan - baby measured just under 10 weeks. It all happened naturally the next day can you believe and was pretty seamless in that I bled for a week and had my negative at the 3 week mark.

I was going to do OPKs but found it mentally too stressful so I've signed me an up husband up to having sex every 3 days until AF arrives as god knows when that'll be 😂 luckily he's on board!! I'm not going to test until I'm 6 weeks post MC so 2.5 weeks to go! X

ThelastRolo20 · 10/11/2023 07:16

@Blueskies4 sorry AF arrived, it's always massively crap on the first day in particular. Good that you reached out to Tommy's - this journey is so tough

Claudiasaz · 10/11/2023 11:37

@Blueskies4 sorry you're having a tough few days. My period has been more normal this time (aka painful and heavy 😂😭) so hoping that's a good thing as was very short and lighter the first time after the MC bleed.

Interesting that they said that, I guess it's not just about getting the right days, a lot of things make a baby so good to know thanks!

RaisingCornishWildlings · 10/11/2023 12:05

Welcome @ThelastRolo20 and sorry @Blueskies4 bloody AF the cow!!

I'm now 8DPO and have had random tingling arms/ hands this morning which is a new one! And a headache (front of head and around eyes). I'm not normally much of a headachy person. I feel really tired due to a late night last night so it might be related to that.

Last night when I went to bed about half 11ish, I had a random few seconds of a stabbing pain in left boob, and a bit of reflux.

Feeling hopefully but trying not to get hopes up too much! X

Hi @ThelastRolo20 So sorry for your loss. I also had a missed MC at my 12 week scan beginning of September, still had morning sickness and had no pain blood or anything so had to have the pessary. Still tested positive 3 weeks later but thankfully scan was clear.

How are you feeling about trying again? X

ThelastRolo20 · 10/11/2023 12:52

@Claudiasaz okay actually, it helps to focus on moving forward. I'm not really holding out any hope this month so just waiting for AF to arrive. I'm assuming it'll be between 4-6 weeks but who knows!

Sorry to hear about your MC too, glad there was nothing on the scan after three weeks though. How are you feeling about it all? X

Claudiasaz · 10/11/2023 13:02

@ThelastRolo20 I've read some people get pregnant immediately after so that could be you! 😄 I tracked ovulation just after was I just wasn't ready so managed to avoid around that time. But my period came 4 weeks after the bleed stopped if that helps. It went pretty quickly in fairness. Can't believe it's November.

I'm feeling similar to you really just focusing on the future and one step at a time. So right now step 1 get pregnant 😂 can't think about an actual baby or even a scan or anything beyond that right now as a bit too hard, not sure if you feel the same?

ThelastRolo20 · 10/11/2023 13:09

@Claudiasaz that is pretty quick! I had regular cycles before so I'm hoping my body gets its act together sharpish! I have heard of people getting pregnant immediately after so who knows! I'm waiting until 2 weeks tomorrow to test (figure a weekend is better than a random Monday morning!).

Definitely one step at a time, to be honest I'll be happy even if AF arrives as then it'll mean the miscarriage is finally over. It's been the longest 3.5 weeks of my life!

Do you have any children or was the MC your first pregnancy? I have a nearly 2 year old keeping me very occupied and distracted x

Claudiasaz · 10/11/2023 13:17

@ThelastRolo20 totally get that! I felt the same. Never so happy to get my period 😂

Yes I have 3.5 and 1.5 year old. X

miamiamia869 · 10/11/2023 16:50

Hi all hope you don't mind me jumping on.

Sorry for your losses. Reading some of them of repeated losses is just so sad. My heart goes out to you.

I misscarried my first pregnancy monday. I started bleeding Monday at 11 weeks 4 days they got me in at epu same day (I work in the hospital (sometimes rota's for that department too) was told no heartbeat and baby only measuring 5 weeks. I passed the the sac that night amongst heavy bleeds ect. I have been bleeding since like a period flow.

Ovulation strips are detecting HCG (I knew they would it's how I found out I was pregnant lol) and pregnancy tests arrived today and that showed a strong line.

I have to go back on Monday to make sure all has gone and to confirm it.

How long after passing of baby at almost 12 weeks should it take to drop.

I'm going to keep testing as I want to ttc ASAP. Do you ovulate as soon as the hcg clears does anyone know?

Good luck for everyone on tww or waiting for peaks.

I hope this is a thread full of rainbow babies

ThelastRolo20 · 10/11/2023 17:34

@miamiamia869 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I understand the want to just move on, I'm exactly the same. I was 12 weeks, baby was 9.5 weeks when I miscarried and it took the full 3 weeks for HCG to leave my system.

I then started OPKs but I realised even after a few days that it was negatively affecting me as I got sad everytime I didn't see a peak. So I decided to stop them, and signed my husband up to sex every 3 days until my period inevitably arrives! But it helps me mentally move on which is good.

You're so early in this horrible experience, I hope the scan goes well and try and look after yourself xx

miamiamia869 · 10/11/2023 18:07

@ThelastRolo20 thank you so much. Oh our loss dates were similar but your lil bubs grew alot further than mine. It's awful isn't as in the 12 weeks you plan and dream so much.

I understand what you say about it negatively affecting you. Tbh I'm dreading the first af.

We tried for 2 years and then 2nd cycle using ovulation strips we conceived. I did notice that mine spiked and dropped real quick. I would have missed the peak had I not tested twice in a day. So maybe thats something for you to keep in mind when they are getting you down if you use them again.

Yes I agree anything to focus on and keep the mind busy.

I hope your aunt flow doesn't arrive and your every 3 day mission goes well.

Take care and good luck xx

Claudiasaz · 10/11/2023 19:46

Hi @miamiamia869 So so sorry for your loss. Take care as you're still early on so be kind to yourself. Sending hugs.

I was at 12 w scan no heartbeat with pregnancy symptoms still so a missed MC but after the medical management still tested positive at the 3 week mark unfortunately. I had an internal scan which was clear, but just to make you aware sometimes hormones take longer is what they said to me. I ovulated I think about a week later. So it's amazing how quickly your body is ready to go again.

Just look after yourself and take the time you need. Sorry again for your loss

miamiamia869 · 11/11/2023 07:41

Claudiasaz ah bless you that must have been so hard finding out at the 12 week scan because you go with so much hope and joy. I started bleeding just before mine and went to EPU and found out missed miscarriage there.

Did you ovulate a week after the misscsrrsge or a week after the hcg dropped?

Sorry to hear of you loss and wish you the best xx

Blueskies4 · 11/11/2023 07:57

@miamiamia869 @ThelastRolo20 hi ladies, I’m sorry for your losses, it’s such a heartbreaking thing to go through.

@miamiamia869 I’ve had 4 MCs and only one of those I didn’t get a negative within a couple 2/3 weeks and my cycle return within the month (just took a few weeks longer). The MC I had at 13 weeks I had my period the following month like normal cycle timing between the MC and the period. Hope that helps.

I’ve also got pregnant within 1/2 months of starting trying again (including when I’ve tried immediately the cycle after the MC), except for this most recent MC which has been longer. Hope that helps.

It’s tough enough without the waiting for your body to return to normal, so sad to be waiting for a negative test x

🤞🏻for you all.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 11/11/2023 08:13

Morning ladies,
Hope everyone slept well? Was so hot in the night, and have woken up feeling nauseous but BFN (to be expected as only 9DPO.
I am driving myself absolutely CRAZY. Only 2 days til DH leaves.

Last night I had horrid acid reflux when I bent over the cot side to lie the toddler down (this was before having eaten dinner).

I'm so desperate to get the BFP and I need to stop peeing on sticks so damn early but I know I'll be absolutely gutted if AF makes an appearance this month!!

Because of DH leaving on Monday we will be busy buying and decorating Xmas tree today and tomorrow so hoping I can try to keep my mind off things 🤞 to a degree at least!

@miamiamia869 I just checked my app and I ovulated two weeks after I stopped bleeding from my MC and a week after a clear scan. I was told not to do anymore tests as the scan was clear so never got a negative.

@RaisingCornishWildlings I am so jealous about the tree! I can't wait to put up my tree 😂 Hope you enjoy your weekend together and we're here for you next week!

I've finished period now so here we go again 🙏 I think I'll try maybe every other day and see how that goes! Busy few weeks coming up so should keep my mind nice and busy.

miamiamia869 · 11/11/2023 12:26

@Blueskies4 and @Claudiasaz ...thank you yeah thay helps so much. It seems to be a couple weeks is quite a common time so will just hope for the best.

I done the stupid thing last night of clicking on a notification of the group "due may 2024" which I was in to see all the 12 week scan photos . It was heartbreaking to think that should have been Me. But also in a way you have to just think all these healthy pregnancies we gave a good chance of that being us soon xxx

RaisingCornishWildlings · 11/11/2023 16:49

Thanks@Claudiasaz here she is looking all twinkly 😂❤️

@miamiamia869 Ah that's so tough I'm sorry. But you have a group here, one none of us wanted to be a part of 😂 but a group nonetheless!

I had two healthy pregnancies and this third one was a miscarriage. Also since talking about my MC, people I never knew about miscarrying have told me they miscarried at one point too. These people all have living children too. So I hope that gives some hope for us all.

Look after yourself this weekend all the treats and rest Xx

Claudiasaz · 11/11/2023 17:14

@RaisingCornishWildlings wow looks amazing!

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2023 17:59

@RaisingCornishWildlings this looks incredible 😍

mumsince2021 · 11/11/2023 19:00

Looks lovely @RaisingCornishWildlings! I'll have to wait until December for ours. I'm sort of dreading it this year as my son will most definitely trash it 😅 last year he was wary of it but it was behind a gate/fence so he couldn't have got to it if he wanted to. This time he'll have full access.

I'm trying to forget about the 2WW and have already assumed it's a negative as it took 16 months until the pregnancy with my son. Although including the miscarriages the gaps between positives were first try, 6 months, then 8 months so maybe it won't take as long to catch - the question is whether it will stick! It was 5 months trying when we got the positive last month.

Welcome @ThelastRolo20 and @miamiamia869

miamiamia869 · 12/11/2023 07:47

@Claudiasaz thank you, it is nice to talk people going through the same. I have decided not to tell our friends and family so it's nice to have an online chat.

@RaisingCornishWildlings tree looks lovely. Everyone seems to be going for it esrly this year. I'm usually pretty esrly but feel I'm.behind this year lol. Going to do mine end of November.

Thanks for all the welcomes xxx

Cat2022 · 12/11/2023 08:09

Hi everyone! Can I join please? Sorry to hear of your losses, I had a MC just over 3 weeks ago at 6 weeks. I was briefly on the MN June 24 thread with a couple of you @RaisingCornishWildlings.

We decided to try again but my husband has been away for just over a week so not sure if we are even in with a chance till next cycle. I think I am currently 8dpo but really not sure tbh. Have been feeling crampy the past day. I was feeling really weak after the MC as I caught the flu about 5 days later so just felt extremely run down. Have been trying to take care of myself better since then and finally starting to feel a bit more “normal”
