TTC after early miscarriage

1000 replies

RaisingCornishWildlings · 24/10/2023 09:59

Morning!
So I sadly suffered an early miscarriage at 5w just over a fortnight ago.

We have 3 children already (6,4 and 19m) and I'm 40, hubby 47.

Lovely staff at EPU said crack on again as soon as I'm ready- and not to worry about having a period first.

I've always had pretty irregular cycles anyway and have never tracked ovulation (we have been very lucky and fallen pregnant super easily- and this was my first MC).

I think I have just ovulated (Sunday) which was 14 days since spotting (main bleed from miscarriage was Tues 11, Weds 12 Oct).

My symptoms were bloating on Fri and Saturday, and real drop in mood over the weekend (I've noticed this has happened a few times a couple of weeks before period since cycles started after DD was born), by yesterday my mood was much more stable again. On Sunday I had mild nausea and very mild cramping (more like little twinges).
We DTD Sunday night.

So have fingers crossed that something might have happened!

I noticed yesterday evening and today I'm peeing more than usual but apparently that can be a sign of ovulation too.

I'm going to be a crazy lady symptom
spotting for a fortnight now! Have a cervical screening booked for a week today (wondering if I should cancel it?!)

What's the earliest anyone has had symptoms after DTD that turned out to be early pregnancy? And how many DPO have you got a positive?

@RaisingCornishWildlings its so hard not to symptom spot isn’t it… I’ve convinced myself my boobs are sore/bigger!

I think it’s more likely that I’ve got a hormone imbalance going on atm which is probably why I’m not pregnant yet, which is bloody frustrating (I’ve been spotting from mid cycle onwards for the last 4 cycles now so somethings not quite right - I’m having tests to get to the bottom of it at the moment, although from a general gynaecological perspective not fertility) x

mumsince2021 · 05/11/2023 22:21

@Blueskies4 this mid cycle spotting happened to me after my first loss back in January 2020. When I eventually called the GP for help after a year of TTC with no luck she wanted me in for a smear straight away when I mentioned the mid cycle spotting. When she looked at my cervix she said I had cervical erosion and asked if I had been on the pill recently. I never have been ever! She was surprised and said it's usually caused by a hormone imbalance due to the pill. She was going to refer me for further tests but I fell pregnant the month after it so I never got seen. My smear result was clear anyway. I've not had mid cycle spotting since my periods returned after having my son so I'm pretty certain the chemical loss screwed up my hormones and caused it as I never had mid cycle spotting ever before I started TTC.

@Claudiasaz I'm doing ok thanks for asking hope you are too! Bleeding gone and got some egg white CM so think it's go time... problem is my husband has man flu (a cold!) and wasn't up for DTD tonight and suggested tomorrow so now I'm frustrated we may be missing the window. I just want a bit of hope for this cycle I'll be gutted if we miss out

Claudiasaz · 05/11/2023 22:22

@RaisingCornishWildlings @Blueskies4 I'm with you. It's good to be able to chat about it!

I am due on this week. I have my usual symptoms for period but this has happened with my pregnancies so I really will have no idea until it comes or doesn't.... I have to try very hard to prepare myself for either as I am a bit worried about how it will affect me if my period comes.

I'm sure you ladies will understand when I say since my missed MC I just have this huge ache for another baby. Feel awful as my two little ones are amazing and more than enough! I'd just love to give them a little brother or sister as they were supposed to have in March 💔

RaisingCornishWildlings · 06/11/2023 07:19

Yes @Claudiasaz absolutely I hear and feel what you're saying about being desperate to be pregnant again. We were only supposed to have 3- hubby hadn't got around to having the snip then we both got broody again! And so we decided to go for it! But really we feel time isn't on our side and so there's even more pressure and desire to be pregnant.
I keep missing my lost love so much and thinking "it would be x weeks by now"... so hard not to dwell on that as well.

All we can do is stay optimistic but realistic! I really hope we all catch but reminding myself it isn't quite that straightforward! Xxx

@RaisingCornishWildlings I had some spotting late last night and due on Thursday so not very hopeful now. My cycle is shorter after mc. So I guess at least I don't have to wait as long to try again. A little worried in the back of my mind as haven't had an issue conceiving previously but equally have never miscarried so it's all new! I'm also 2 years older than the second baby 😂

I hope it works out for you before hubby goes away I really do. You're so positive and don't lose that it's great 🙂 I always think of the worst scenario. Wish I could be more upbeat about it all! My husband was great this morning when I told him about the spotting. Just going to have to try and go with it I suppose!

Blueskies4 · 06/11/2023 13:04

@mumsince2021 thanks for this, I wonder if cervical erosion is the same as cervical ectropion as the doctor said I have that when they checked - if it can be caused by hormonal imbalance it makes sense that’s what’s causing the spotting. I’m back in at the doctors this afternoon anyway so hoping for a referral to gynaecology 🤞🏻god sorry about the man flu… there’s always something isn’t there!!

@Claudiasaz ah I’m the same lovely, it’s so tough isn’t it?! I’m roughly 11 DPO and stupidly tested this morning and a definite negative (I don’t know what I was expecting with how my cycles been!) I’ve been in bits! The pre period hormones can hardly help!

I know what you mean with the ache for another baby, I already have one but it doesn’t make it any easier than the miscarriage I had before I had my daughter - I’d say it’s more difficult and then there’s the guilt 🥺

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 13:20

@Blueskies4 I'm 11 days after mine how funny 🤣 I haven't had anymore bleeding since the spotting so don't know what the hell is happening. It's so frustrating when you don't even know your own body anymore

Vic231 · 06/11/2023 14:15

Hi ladies, I'm back after my weekend away with friends! It was really lovely and I really shut off from all the worry and instead just laughed the whole 2 days! I'm now roughly 5DPO and trying not to obsess over symptoms. I'd love to wait to rest until AF either arrived (or doesn't!) but because the EPU said they'd prescribe me progesterone I feel like I need to know before to get it asap.

Like a lot of you I'm so ready to be pregnant that I'm trying to not let it turn me crazy (easier said than done 🤣) but I think for me it's also the worry that I don't yet have a living child that's a lot to deal with x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 06/11/2023 14:19

@Vic231 so glad to hear you've had a lovely stress free weekend.

I think I'm just one day behind you then, as I think I'm 4DPO! Let's symptom spot together - fingers crossed for both us xxx

Vic231 · 06/11/2023 14:52

@RaisingCornishWildlings that's really exciting that we are really close together! I'm usually weeks ahead or behind of people on here 😂

Very early days but so far I've had very slight cramps, a bit dizzy and one spot on my chin 😂 how about you? x

RaisingCornishWildlings · 06/11/2023 15:00

My chin erupted in several spots yesterday which is fairly unusual for me. Very mild barely there cramping early eve yesterday and my mood is all over the place. Will hold out til Sunday I think and try a test then... we had so much sex this fertile window and never had issues conceiving before but I'm trying not to get hopes up! X

Hey ladies

I'll probably need to step away for a bit as will put a huge dampener on your thread! Definitely come on my period today - cd23. Wtf. I feel so blindsided by my own body ATM. I literally have no idea what's going on with my cycle now. I had sore boobs and cramping all the way from ov to now too. Even had the Milky lady stuff until now. (I don't know if any of that is a sign for me or not tbh as cant remember much from previous 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣)

This is my second cycle after a missed miscarriage at my 12 w scan in September but first cycle ttc since mc.
I've always had a 30 day ish cycle. This is just odd. A friend of mine had a missed MC and said this is normal for a few months but I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself - even though I tried to prepare for this.

Hope you ladies have better luck than me! Sorry if my rant is too much 😭🤣

RaisingCornishWildlings · 06/11/2023 17:33

@Claudiasaz , you rant away my love- it's what we are all here for.

Please don't feel you need to step away for our sakes- we are likely several of us not going to catch as quickly as we would like and some of us might be on this journey longer than others!

Be kind to yourself lovely, hopefully next cycle is your month xxx

mumsince2021 · 06/11/2023 18:17

@Claudiasaz it took me 16 months to conceive my son so im sure I'll be here with you for a while! We still haven't even DTD this cycle so at the moment im at 0% chance 🤦‍♀️ it's horrible TTC sometimes isn't it? Feel free to rant here! We all feel the same at times

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 19:28

Aw thanks ladies!

I am more frustrated with not knowing where I am with my own body. Period at cd23 is just odd. But anyway here I am.... Rubbish tv and lots of snacks tonight 😂 hope you are all doing okay x

mumsince2021 · 06/11/2023 20:01

I have quite short cycles usually it varies between 24 and 28 days. I've had a 23 day cycle before. The only good thing is at least you don't have a dragged out cycle when it's a negative 🤦‍♀️ my husband is being a grump tonight so DTD definitely not on the cards. Does anyone else find they are just really annoying at the crucial times 😅

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 20:17

@mumsince2021 Ah okay good to know it is normal and also that's a good point! I thought 28/30 was good for that so 23 is a bonus in this case I guess.

Ah nooo. Do you tell him it's your fertile time or just surprise him? My husband doesn't like to be told but definitely knows 😂

Vic231 · 06/11/2023 22:16

@Claudiasaz @mumsince2021 if it makes anyone feel better my cycles have always been 23 days, growing up my sister always used to say im more likely to be on my period than not 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Rubbish tv and snacks sounds like the best idea and then before you know it you'll be in your fertile week! At least this time of year is generally busy with things to look forward to x

Vic231 · 06/11/2023 22:16

@Claudiasaz I also really enjoy a rant, having my own or reading others - I'm not fussy! It's better to let it out than to let it build up inside!

mumsince2021 · 06/11/2023 22:18

Yes @Vic231 I think that's why I end up low iron too as shorter cycles mean bleeding more often! @Claudiasaz I always try and think of the period arriving as a fresh start and a new cycle not the last one dragging on anymore. Only a week and you'll be giving it another go again so just have a break just now and treat yourself.

Blueskies4 · 06/11/2023 22:21

@Claudiasaz ah sorry it’s arrived, I’ll definitely be joining you in the next couple of days - still spotting! I do have shorter cycles though since my daughter was born (I was always 28 days on the nose, now I’m between 23-26). If it helps I conceived when I was having cycles this short 3x so it hadn’t impacted my getting pregnant (until now!) but I know what you mean about not knowing where your body is. I’m livid with mine atm!

I love that your husbands specified he’d rather not know ha ha!

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 22:24

@mumsince2021 @Vic231 Yes definitely thanks for sharing 🙂🙂 Think I'm just worried as that's not my normal cycle length so hoping things are okay. Have stopped bleeding againnnn so have only had light spotting since yesterday. Again not normal for me so just want to know my body again.... it's all over the place!

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 22:28

@Blueskies4 I know right -I want to be the man!😂

Claudiasaz · 06/11/2023 22:29

@Blueskies4 and yes that does help thank you xx

mumsince2021 · 06/11/2023 23:39

So we did DTD in the end but slim chance still as the sperm is at least 4 weeks old 😂 literally haven't done anything since last month when we conceived. So it's more of a clear out. He's had his man flu for 3 weeks so that's why plus we avoid anything like that in the early weeks of pregnancy out of fear of disrupting anything

Ugh @Claudiasaz spotting is irritating isn't it? I prefer just getting my period and knowing what's going on. It doesn't help that I had a little bleed early on when pregnant with my son so now I know it can mean I could be pregnant when I get spotting... but always most likely is just AF arriving 🤦‍♀️
