Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Papier do beautiful (but expensive) journals. I usually put one on my Christmas and/or birthday list.

They’re on topcashback and Quidco, and looks like you can get a discount for signing up to emails. They’re also mentioned on numerous voucher code websites but no idea if the codes work!

I agree with @FinaleyDee - the personalised Papier notebooks make beautiful bujos. I buy their stuff regularly for myself and for gifts and they are always very much appreciated. you can choose dotted, plain or lined paper and there’s loads of beautiful designs.

there should be a good discount code coming up around Black Friday which I think usually stacks with a referral code but I can’t be sure.

in any case, you will find a good referral code over on the referrals / promo codes board at:

I've just been to Dunelm & they have their Giving Tree out!
I've lifted a couple of tags & one is for a girl aged 8-10 & I'm a bit stumped on current, cool books for that age range as my children are younger, could anyone recommend something appropriate?
Also would you add a toy? I feel like an 8 year old would appreciate but it might be lost on a 10 year old

SnowJamz · 30/09/2024 16:53

Has anyone seen what’s in the Aldi wooden toy event? Not seen a leaflet yet. Some on TikTok when I looked online but I don’t use that and it was trying to make me download the app.

I am thinking of getting my daughter a thermal printer to print some Picts from her phone anyone know if they are any good?

We got one from the TikTok shop, the first rolls of paper were great, but finding any more that have the same quality of print result has been really difficult.
I can't complain too much though - I only paid £3.99 for the printer & extra rolls.
Check at weekends for discounts on TikTok shop - that's when I am seeing to notice the deals.

Ilovepugs2017 · 30/09/2024 17:18

Can anyone recommend the best place to get the scentos scented colouring pencils? Tried in my local Asda and Amazon and they don’t have the ones I’m after for DD

Ilovepugs2017 · 30/09/2024 17:18

Has anyone also seen a small dressing table suitable for a 7 year old? DD has asked for a new one for Xmas

@tabbycat985
I've bought chocolate, bubble bath etc and stationary for this age range when I did the local giving tree.

Last year I got boxes of 4 Guylian chocolates for £1 at B&M… if anyone spots them can you post please? They went down very well in stockings! 🙏🏼

I'm pretty sure B&M had them when I was in yesterday.

tabbycat985 · 30/09/2024 18:21

@Alongthepineconetrail I have all those little bits & pieces already & picked up a squishmallow, which I'm hoping are still the cool thing to have😅
Her bag just looks very empty compared to the younger kids & our tags aren't very specific/big age ranges

User170451 · 30/09/2024 18:26

Does anyone know if there’s usually any good deals on Nintendo switches?

Dork Diaries might be a good bet, or Amelia Fang.

I brought a reconditioned one on Ebay for really good value, they often have extra discount vouchers available too. It tells you the level of recondition (excellent, good etc..) possibly worth a look.

IggyAce · 30/09/2024 18:41

@tabbycat985 thanks for the dunelm heads up I’ll pop to my local one and hopefully grab a couple of tags. At 8-10 my dd loved dork diaries and also books by Tamsin Cooke. I know a couple of 8 & 10 year olds who like soft toys and squishmallows.

Thanks to whoever linked the Melissa and Doug pizza shop, I got it for £25 and I've just seen it's back up at £46. That's one off the list! Does anyone know where is good for getting bargainous wooden role play toys?

Aldi, will be avaliable soon.

I’m looking for a wooden sushi set

@tabbycat985 how about Christmas PJs or a oodie style blanket that seems to be popular. You can pick them up quite cheaply now from most shops. I bought mine from Next & it's of a medium weight so can be used all year round.

TheCrow · 30/09/2024 19:06

Sorry to be a killjoy but please look into the Dork Diaries books before buying them, especially as presents for other children. There is some inappropriate language used in them (such as the R word), calling her mother brain dead, describing people as mentally ill weirdos and comments about how celebrities can be seen without panties but not without cellphones etc.
