Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

1000 replies

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Reastie what's the grim code?? Feel like that one totally passed me by...I'm not even sure what Grim is? 😅

It was a typo on grumm on the previous thread

Qwerty21 · 29/09/2024 21:06

Anyone do bullet journaling? I want to order a preprinted one, rather than a dotted paper one, but I'm mostly finding pdfs on etsy which isn't what I want at all. And the one I saw on FB adverts which gave me the idea didn't have great reviews unfortunately

Christmasdreaming · 29/09/2024 21:26

Flying tiger had lots of bullet journals when I was in the store today

Ohhhhhhh!!! Ha! Thanks!

Yeah I saw that! Wasn't lucky with a code though :(

Does anyone know of any good brands for natural make up for kids, my 6 year old wants makeup brushes and eyeshadow but I'd rather get something less chemical for on her skin, google is sending me to miss nella wondering if they're good.

Papier do beautiful (but expensive) journals. I usually put one on my Christmas and/or birthday list.

They’re on topcashback and Quidco, and looks like you can get a discount for signing up to emails. They’re also mentioned on numerous voucher code websites but no idea if the codes work!

GPNightmare · 29/09/2024 22:01

I don’t know if this already made it onto an earlier thread but I just spotted this offer on the frozen peas while I was unpacking the Ocado delivery 😂 The offer expires tomorrow though…

https://www.birdseye-freegame.co.uk/#

Buy 4 qualifying products in one shop, upload the receipt and claim a free Hasbro game (Cluedo, Operation, Hungry Hippos etc).

I may head to the supermarket and stock up on petit pois tomorrow 😂

Edited to say that I’ve just realised that the purchase had to be made before 8 September 🙄

Pity… maybe someone has a qualifying online order receipt they could use!

Does anyone know of some bargainous men's moccasins? Or if not bargainous, a particular pair you would recommend?

Preferably not too thick fur lined as DH is permanently hot as it is.

Try Lands End for moccasins, I've bought a few pairs from them before and they're always good quality. There's a discount code available this week for all full priced purchases.

We got one from the TikTok shop for £8 which included the printer plus 5 rolls of paper and 5 rolls of sticker paper
Black and white only and quite grainy but she wanted it to print out revision diagrams/notes and stick in her book. Is perfect for that

We also have a sprocket which is brilliant. Colour and very good quality. Expensive though for paper

Now...to make sure I don't loose the birthday cards that are not needed till next year !

I’ve got an A4 file with 15 dividers and 15 plastic sleeves
one for each month (birthdays, easter, Mother’s Day etc), one for christmas, 1 for spare birthday cards and 1 for random cards (thank you, sympathy etc)
it’s the only way I manage not to lose them!

bizzey · 29/09/2024 23:44

@LittleMousewithcloggson ...that's a fantastic idea ...thank you.

Re the whistlefish ...the wrapping paper deal is not just Christmas paper.
I got some " normal" gift paper as well .

Maybe not bargainous but DH swears by M&S moccasins for £30 with a hard soul and fabric lining.
He wears them a lot and a pair lasts several years.

Just wanted to say thank you for the tips on these threads. Thanks to you all, I've managed to buy an old fashioned rag doll and a wooden Noah's ark for my great nieces from Frasers, I've stocked up on cards from Whistlefish and I've bought lots of Harry Potter bits for my great nephew. I'm a happy bunny!
