Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

A bit niche but dies anyone have a recommendation for a burger weight? As in to push it down whilst cooking? My husband has asked for one and I've no idea!

Friendofdennis · 30/09/2024 19:24

Just been into TK Maxx. There are Loccitane and Crabtree and Evelyn Bath and shower products in some delectable fragrances

Can anyone recommend the best place to get the scentos scented colouring pencils? Tried in my local Asda and Amazon and they don’t have the ones I’m after for DD

Not sure if everywhere but I have seen big packs of these reduced in my local Tesco, might be worth having a look if you have one near you!!

I've just been to Dunelm & they have their Giving Tree out!
I've lifted a couple of tags & one is for a girl aged 8-10 & I'm a bit stumped on current, cool books for that age range as my children are younger, could anyone recommend something appropriate?
Also would you add a toy? I feel like an 8 year old would appreciate but it might be lost on a 10 year old

Your Dunelm must be a lot more generic than ours. The first year was great but ever since then it has just become a tree of very specific demands . I've still done it every year but found it a lot more difficult.

Whilst we are on the subject of Dunelm giving tree is this the same thing as an Aquadoodle mat (for a 2 year old) Aqua Mat

£89.70 off the Ray Ban Meta Wayfarers, making them £209.30 (pay in full) with the O2 Priority app.

Not a cheap present by a long shot, but if anyone had this on their wishlist (I'm tempted!) it's a hefty amount off. The deal is very limited, so think it will end soon.

Yeknom · 30/09/2024 20:00

@oriel2013 if he's into bbq-ing the Weber one would probably go down really well - amzn.eu/d/eS7b1xm. There are also lots of cheaper, unbranded ones x

tabbycat985 · 30/09/2024 20:32

Thank you all @Hullabalooza @IggyAce @TheCrow Tamsin Cooke & Amelia Fang both added to my shopping list, Dork Diaries is vetoed in case it is for the younger age.

@Alongthepineconetrail That's a great idea, thank you! I can't believe I didn't think of that when I live in mine at home😂

@Justhereforthechristmasthreads Yes that's just an own brand version.
I almost wish there was a little more detail to go off of or a more specific age but our tree was almost empty already so that's a good thing!

What about a fidget type toy?

Marsmoon1 · 30/09/2024 20:35

SnowJamz · 30/09/2024 16:53

Has anyone seen what’s in the Aldi wooden toy event? Not seen a leaflet yet. Some on TikTok when I looked online but I don’t use that and it was trying to make me download the app.

@SnowJamz catalogue out Thursday has it in . Can’t wait!

Sous Chef website sells something called The Chef’s Press which might do the trick.

Does anyone know if there’s usually any good deals on Nintendo switches?

I compared prices last year on just the switch itself and bundles tbh they were all much of muchness.

I waited til black Friday again all very similar, sometimes slightly different games in the bundles etc...

I had never bought from Very so ordered from there and got 20% off as a new customer, had to open an account but paid it off as soon as the bill arrived

Clucket87 · 30/09/2024 20:48

Precious personalised gifts have £5 off their Christmas stockings.
I've just got mine, and it has made me very happy!!!
Free delivery if you spend over £40.

IggyAce · 30/09/2024 20:52

@oriel2013 my dh has this one link

Nike shirt for just over £3 if anyone is looking for a stocking filler for teenage boys/men. My nephew has this exact one, it looks much nicer in person

Thanks you for that link.
I've ordered it as a little stocking filler. It says shorts but shows the t-shirt so we will see what turns up!

Clucket87 · 30/09/2024 20:57

Sorry, feel like I'm on a roll.
I know somebody wanted the smelly pens but these have just come up on Nice Price Deals Uk
Looks like 24 gel pens for £3.99 due to the 50% voucher.

Cos1970 · 30/09/2024 21:03

I’m looking to get this board game for my BiL for Christmas, just wondered if anyone had seen it cheaper anywhere else?

All these lovely card storage ideas are making me so envious, I wish I could be so organised.
in reality I'm going to stuff my cards in a drawer, forget, and end up running to Tesco anyway.

Fabulous bargain though

KenIsAnAccessory · 30/09/2024 21:13

Like @Carolwithane the cheapest way I found to buy a switch last year was to open a very account. I think advantage of the welcome 20% off to buy other gifts at a discount as well, so with thinking about what else you might want to purchase and not be able to find deals elsewhere @User170451

Famousthehero · 30/09/2024 21:14

Just noticed Amazon has Lite Brite for £10, price matching smyths but free postage.

Think dd7 and ds4 will both enjoy it

Cherandcheralike · 30/09/2024 21:24

Has anyone seen a deal on a changing robe for kids? I was planning to get them from regatta with the 8.5% on TCB but they're all gone!

Ilovepugs2017 · 30/09/2024 21:28

@Cherandcheralike if you mean the dry robes the kids ones are on Amazon for between £35 and £40

YeahWellWhyNot · 30/09/2024 21:33

@famousI have snapped that up thank you!

YeahWellWhyNot · 30/09/2024 21:34

@Famousthehero sorry wrong tag. I have soon to be 7yo DS bday next week and this looks great
Thanks ever so much 😌
