Off to the shops this morning to pick up something for tomorrows dinner. What do you eat for dinner on New Years day?

I'd like to do roast lamb but lamb is so expensive!

Whatever we can find in the fridge. It's just another day for us.

BCBird · 31/12/2022 09:47

We used to have a roast when I was a nipper🙂

Tintackedsea · 31/12/2022 09:50

We're having a ham joint and cherry cheesecake for pudding.

We should be having steak pie I suppose. That's more traditional.

jevoudrais · 31/12/2022 09:53

We used to have a second Xmas dinner growing up. But now we don't have anything special, it's just a normal day.

Roselilly36 · 31/12/2022 09:55

It’s a Sunday so we are having a roast dinner.

dementedpixie · 31/12/2022 09:58

Steak pie as I'm in Scotland and its traditional

FlamingJingleBells · 31/12/2022 10:17

A salmon wellington with roasted veg and a lemon cheesecake.

Mummyneedsacoffee · 31/12/2022 10:26

I’m having lamb, managed to get it in Tesco when they were half price. Such a bargain 😁

Remainiac · 31/12/2022 10:30

We always had goose growing up. I’m doing gammon I think.

winteriscoming2022 · 31/12/2022 10:31

We always have a roast.
Also clean the house from top to bottom, all windows open ( though aware you didn't ask that!)

JoyeuxNarwhal · 31/12/2022 10:32

Undecided yet. We've all been a bit under the weather so not up to cooking much. Depending on how we all are/how bothered we can be to cook then it'll be lamb madras if I'm cooking or something from his new Wagamama cookbook if ds is cooking. If we cba there's a selection of "party food" arriving with the online shop later!

Harperweek · 31/12/2022 10:34

Steak Pie. I’m Scottish.

AlwaysLatte · 31/12/2022 10:36

We usually have roast lamb too but I've gone off lamb recently. I like someone else's idea of salmon wellington. Going shopping today so need to meal plan in a bit!

JuneOsborne · 31/12/2022 10:36

We're having our Christmas dinner!

MsSquiz · 31/12/2022 10:38

We are having a treacle cured slow cooked gammon from Waitrose with either mash or dauphinois potatoes and veg.

Pre kids it used to be whatever chocolate we had in the house, with alcohol and then a takeaway in the evening!

Steak Pie. I’m Scottish.

Exactly the same here.

It’s not new year without a steak pie.

Hobbesmanc · 31/12/2022 10:38

We had pie yesterday. When I was little it would always be roast beef on New Year's Day.

We're having a mini Christmas dinner. With a leftover Christmas pudding.

iklboo · 31/12/2022 10:43

Marmalade glazed gammon (Sainsbury's)
Pomme parmentier
Cauliflower cheese
Green veg

Probably cheesecake or something for dessert.

deplorabelle · 31/12/2022 10:46

When we aren't hosting I always put a frozen duck in the freezer in case illness or bad weather forces us to stay at home and improvise a last minute Christmas. Then I cook it on NYD if no plan B is needed.

DeepfriedPizza · 31/12/2022 10:49

Steak pie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😁

RewildingAmbridge · 31/12/2022 10:54

We've got friends coming for lunch, I've got a massive gammon so will roast that, Boulanger potatoes, cauliflower cheese and green veg. Not sure about pudding yet. I'll make something from my usual baking supplies.
Check Tesco and Sainsbury's for lamb both have had half price legs in the last couple of weeks

lenalemonade · 31/12/2022 11:02

Big pot of homemade soup and
steak pie is a must a new year ,followed by either a trifle or cheesecake which I will whip up tomorrow morning

yomellamoHelly · 31/12/2022 11:05

When we were kids we would have gammon. We don't do anything special, but celebrate NYE, so are usually recovering / chilling after that.

dottiedodah · 31/12/2022 11:07

Roast Beef and Yorkshire puds for us! Quite low key ,slow cooker on 5 hours low .Then Roasties and veggies .Followed by Nans Christmas Trifle !

Greatly · 31/12/2022 11:09

We are having a chilli which I am making today, with avocado, tomato salsa, sour cream and wraps.
