Anyone else want to take the tree and decs down, and have a good throw out ?

I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

Nope. I can take it or leave it with regards to decorations but once they are up they are staying up till Twelfth Night by hook or by crook. Today is the 2nd day of Chritmas. There are 10 to go.

UsernameInTheTown · 26/12/2021 07:13

Yes. Our Dec's are down. We totally destroyed half of them with DDs remote controlled Megladon yesterday. Once the day is over I hate decorations and we only put ours up a fortnight ago! Looking towards a fresh house for New Year!

Bluntness100 · 26/12/2021 07:14

No, I woke up early, I am sitting with the fire on, the tree twinkling, drinking coffee, soft music on, mumsnetting. We also, fingers crossed, are having a party at new year, and I want to keep it going.

So I want to enjoy it a bit longer.

ivykaty44 · 26/12/2021 07:15

No I don’t want to take the decorations down.

I’ve jyst been down and got a coffee & popped the tree lights on, it makes it feel warm and special.

Got guests today and Wednesday and it would be odd to have put the decorations away

titanic25 · 26/12/2021 07:15

Do it if it makes you feel better. Why not ?
I have not done it as my expectations are not high from this festive period. I do it because of children.
I must admit clearing up all this decorations does make me feel better. I will do mine just after new year

TheDrWillSeeYouNow · 26/12/2021 07:16

I think we will take ours down tomorrow and have a good sort out.

GoodnightGrandma · 26/12/2021 07:17

I’ve taken mine down on Boxing day before now !
I’ll leave the tree until tomorrow, but my lights on the mantle piece are staying for now, I like them.

That's what happens if you start Christmas too soon! We decorated our tree on Christmas Eve in the evening just like my parents did. So it's been up just over 24 hours and I still love it. It comes down on 1 January usually ( actually gets put back outside as it's a living tree).

I know what you mean though if you've had a bad day it feels, like Christmas is rubbish but our day was lovely

This. Advent used to be a period of fasting, apparently, which made the 12 days of Christmas a real feast. (Hundreds of years ago.) Advent now seems to have morphed into a long build up to Christmas Day. No wonder people are bored with it all by Boxing Day!
GoodnightGrandma · 26/12/2021 07:24

I don’t think it helps that sales start on Xmas Eve. Years ago sales started after Xmas day. It sort of feels like Xmas is over before it starts, to me.

Do it if it will make you feel better. No point being around stuff that doesn’t make you feel positive.
I’m sitting by the fire with a coffee in hand with the twinkly lights on and a Christmas candle and it’s lovely but the tree has only been up a week.
We usually take ours down on 29/30th as it’s DD’s birthday on 31st so the bday balloons & stuff will come out.

trekcrockett · 26/12/2021 07:38

Our tree went up on the 23rd, it's coming down today.
Both autistic kids don't like it...house looks different! It's only a 2ft tree (no other decs) but it's causing them issues.
The cats will be sad, they've enjoyed climbing it and pulling the tinsel off!

theworldsgonefeckingmad · 26/12/2021 07:40

I always take the tree down on Boxing Day as it's a real one and I have a small living room. The kids get more space and there's a lot less needles to clean up doing it today but everything else stays up. I love christmas Xmas Smile

IKissedSantaClaus · 26/12/2021 07:43

I feel like we've only just started Christmas! We only done one side of the family, doing the other side today, still have loads of presents under the tree to open, fridge is stuffed full of food. I only got round to some of the decorations on Christmas Eve.

Everyone is different, if you're happier taking them down you should. We'll definitely we celebrating for a while yet in this house Smile

Angel2702 · 26/12/2021 07:46

Yes it is DS birthday today and we cannot move in any room, once birthday presents are opened it will be even worse. Everything will be coming down tomorrow we need the space back and a deep clean ready for New Year.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 26/12/2021 07:47

I normally take my tree down Boxing day, I still did for a couple years when both DC were young enough not to notice or really care. Now they are 4 and 2 I will keep it up longer as they love it and I feel mean (stupid I know)

But I'm already itching to take it down, for some reason as soon as Christmas is over the tree becomes a pain in the arse that just takes up too much room.

Dollywilde · 26/12/2021 07:50

I don’t want Christmas to be over but I’d quite like the tree out of our house. I’m convinced that because of WFH it’s dropped far more this year (because of having the heating on more). Plus we have a toddler and a cat. It could just be a bad tree but it’s looking pretty bald Grin last year we moved in early December so didn’t get the tree up until the 20th - wasn’t such an issue then! But if I have to sweep up another load of pines I’m going to go bananas.

Christmas can stay but I’m side eyeing that tree, and it’s our on it’s arse on New Year’s Day at the latest.

WeDidntMeanToGoToSea · 26/12/2021 07:57

We fetch and put up our tree on the fourth Saturday of Advent. Depending on when that falls, we've had it up for a few days/a week when Christmas arrives and are still very much in a festive place. It will stay up until Epiphany.

There's something quite clinical about taking it down Boxing Day - a bit 'right, that's over, what's next?' Not really how I like to see the Christmas season.

Gubanc · 26/12/2021 07:57

Our tree went up around the 11th and is still going strong, it's such a lovely one. I had a rather rubbish Christmas this year but the tree cheers me up.
It's in a fairly big room though not really in anyone's way and I think that makes a difference.
It'll come down on NYE though.

beingsunny · 26/12/2021 07:59

I got up this morning on Boxing Day and sat looking at my tree wondering if I could take it down today... I'm always away fro Xmas and back after New Years but covid and breakup meant I'm home.

I've decided it would be a bit Scrooge so am taking it all down tomorrow Grin

Mommabear20 · 26/12/2021 07:59

We're not taking them down today as DH won't hear of it but they'll be down and away before new year for sure!

BerriesAndPineCones · 26/12/2021 08:03

Either NYD or 12th night for me, depending on how I feel

SallyWD · 26/12/2021 08:07

Christmas is supposed to be 12 days ending on 5th January (when the wise men arrived and recognised Jesus as the son of God - Epiphany). It's not supposed to be just 1 day. Mine stay up until 5th December. Its perfectly fine to take them down whenever you want though! But I like to mark Christmas for the full period.

cloudtree · 26/12/2021 08:08

We don’t have much up this year due to building work and crazy levels of dust and dirt everywhere but because it’s so shit living in the house like this I’m going the other way. Christmas decorations will come down at the usual time on 12th night but then I’m repurposing some as winter decorations. So father christmases, reindeer etc will go but twinkling lights and stars and greenery (other than the tree itself) are staying up.

Yelloi · 26/12/2021 08:10

Mine are coming down later today, do what works best for you!
