I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

I didn't do loads during Advent so I am in full Christmas mode now. Sounds like you had a Christmassy advent though op so I can understand your feelings now. Hope next year's Christmas day is a better one.

Not me! Having a party this afternoon and after that is my favourite bit of Xmas- no work for a few days, loads of food, lots of films to watch, lovely tree- snow! That’s the relaxing part for me. The tree comes down in New Years Day but we have a special dinner on Kings Day ( 5th) as well, and after then I will be on the salads and trying to lose the extra weight!

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:51

No because we are still at the start of my & the dcs holidays

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:52

I didn't put the tree up or do xmas stuff early though

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:52

We totally destroyed half of them with DDs remote controlled Megladon yesterday

Santa also delivered this to my house 🤬

MrsTophamHat · 26/12/2021 11:53

Not just yet. Our decorations only went up on 17th and I liked it that way. Will definitely be doing the same next year.

I should have done more toy clearance before Christmas though! The amount of stuff is making me feel anxious!

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:53

I also think it's nice for the house to look pretty & sparkly for NYE as traditionally we would party.

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:54

Plus where I am the council tree collection isn't until the new year anyway

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/12/2021 11:56

Not taking them down until Candlemass, January is such a miserable, dark month, love having the lights on.

pluggee · 26/12/2021 11:58

I’ve still got festive plans!

Same I always like to do stuff between xmas & NY

CatRatSplat · 26/12/2021 11:59

Our Christmas secs go down 2nd/3rd Jan replaced with brithday decs for the rest of the month, for kids bithdays. Keeps the gloom out of January for me.

gsaoej · 26/12/2021 12:00

Taken mine down this morning. Done a nice Christmas for the kids and it’s DONE! It’s only a fake one so I just have to put it back in the cupboard every year. Room feels much bigger and lighter now.

TangledNemo · 26/12/2021 12:10

I want to take the tree down as it’s taking up too much space and our living room has too much stuff in it. The tree has also been up since the start of December and is so dead and awful looking now. I won’t though, yesterday was my husband’s first day of his Christmas holidays. The tree will stay up until he goes back to work on the 4th of Jan.

Passanotherjaffacake · 26/12/2021 12:17

I’m with you OP, will keep it all up a few more days for DD but it will be down before NYE. We only put ours up in mid Dec as well. Maybe I’m a grinch!! Totally understand posters saying it’s a whole advent period but New Year has always felt quite separate to me and I love to have the house clean and fresh for a new year/new start. I love the feeling of a brand new year.

Peaseblossum22 · 26/12/2021 12:17

This is why our Christmas tree never goes up before the 18th of December, we really enjoy it being up for Christmas and it comes down on the 4th as one of the family has a birthday that day and so we go into birthday mode.

janedani · 26/12/2021 12:19

My tree is down and all the decorations back in the loft. Yesterday was rubbish, should have been seeing family but we have covid and my 6 year old came down with chicken pox as well on Christmas Eve. Did debate leaving the outside Christmas lights up so the neighbours don't think we are miserable but decided to put it all down. Feel better for a clutter free house.

Mocara · 26/12/2021 13:26

I know Christmas isint for everyone for lots of reasons and thats ok . Christmas shouldnt be a chore if it is just dont do it.
I just dont get it ,some people spend so much time complaining about lack of time , happyness, money , for themselves, partner , with family, friends children etc yet cant wait 24hrs to get back to the rat race. There calender and understanding of Christmas is entirely commercial.
Who cares if your house is a little cluttered/untiday if your family has each other.
Who cares what or when you eat as long as you have food on the table .
Who cares how many people come to your house as long as there the ones that add to your happyness.
Who cares who spends/ buys what for whom it isint a measure of how much your loved or not.
If the answer to any of this is you then you dont get Christmas .
Single parent family here, with little money to spare all family abroad and unable to reach us. Lost close family over the last 2 years and a parent with dementia.a child with a terminal illness.
Whats precious is time and contact ,support and love with the people who have time and contact ,love and support for you.
If making your house sparkle makes you happy and are lucky enough to have time of then close your door to to the conveyer belt , roller coaster rat race and cherish every precious moment because life love and time are priceless.
We put our tree up early Dec till 12th night , we carry on famiy tradition to honour them not being with us and because we love it. We pause the real world for as long as possible and realish every min .

winnieanddaisy · 26/12/2021 13:29

Surely today counts as the 1st day of Christmas and the twelfth day is 6th of January, that's the day that you're supposed to take your decorations down . I can never wait that long though and mine will be down before New Years Day .

Cocolapew · 26/12/2021 13:31

Mines down, DD1s birthday is on the 29th and I never liked them up then. I did put them up in late November because I prefer the build up, but my Dad died in October and I'm not feeling festive at all.

DappledThings · 26/12/2021 13:32

Twelfth Night is the 5th Jan. 25th December is the first day of Christmas. 6th Jan is Epiphany and the day on which traditionally decorations are taken down. It is after Twelfth Night, not on Twelfth Night.

The other tradition is to keep them up till Candlemas in February. My church does so with its tree.

Cocolapew · 26/12/2021 13:33

I do keep my cluster fairy lights up all year though, I love a bit of sparkle.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/12/2021 13:37

Ours only went up on the 24th December so currently really enjoying the festive mood. We take them down on the 6th.

runningfromtheoutlaws · 26/12/2021 13:40

Not quite but Im attempting to clean the house, have chronic health issues, normally have cleaners but not been for a month😳 currently lying on the bed taking a break!

WreathSupreme · 26/12/2021 13:50

I do want to have a clear out but I only put the tree up on the 21st of December so I'm not taking it down yet. I'll get started on clearing the mountains of tat on Monday.

Omicrone · 26/12/2021 13:52

Yes, having the decorations still up in that limbo between Xmas and New Year, when you are just chilling and eating leftovers and don't know what day it is, is the best bit! The run up the Christmas is often really manic and it's just really nice to enjoy the decorations and everything afterwards.

But I've never been one of these People to put up the tree on 1st December and then take it down as soon as Xmas is finished because its 'onto the next'. Seems a bit joyless to me.
