Anyone else want to take the tree and decs down, and have a good throw out ?

I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

Mine stay up until after new year but are down by 12th night. We only started on our Christmas food yesterday so still feeling very Christmassy. I notice more and more now that the sell by dates on Christmas food is before 25th. I always look at the dates and never by anything that's out of date before that, unless I can freeze it.

If people have been eating mince pies and Yule log throughout December I can see why they would be fed up of it by the 25th.

@Omicrone yes I agree with you, my parents used to have the tree up maybe a week before Xmas then straight down Boxing Day or the day after and I hated it, totally sucked the joy out of it for me.

stargirl1701 · 26/12/2021 14:17

Nope. The tree went up on Christmas Eve and looks lovely. We don't celebrate Christmas during Advent so we have all the festivities yet to come!

Phrenologistsfinger · 26/12/2021 14:18

Didn’t put any up, couldn't be bothered! Life is much easier.

Katyppp · 26/12/2021 14:22

Agree with the pps who say Christmas now seems to have morphed to fit in with retailers calendar.
It seems to be a big build up of spending money, then once the shops close on Christmas eve, it's effectively over.
The earliest decorations I saw this year was mid/late October. Unless you are influenced by decs in shops, why would you even consider decorating for an event two and a half months away?
As others have said, the best part of Christmas time is lazing around and taking it easy with no work.
I imagine the ones who are itching to 'get straight' are the same ones spending more money to get organised for next year!

Mummaganoush · 26/12/2021 14:30

Yep mine are down today, DD pushed for them to be up early and now they feel like clutter so they are coming down and a good clean and tidy will occur!

Hamjamwich · 26/12/2021 14:39

Didn't put a tree up this year. Just lights in the window and on the mantelpiece. Very liberating not having to drag it all out of the attic crawl space

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 26/12/2021 15:03

@Katyppp it was the same around here alot of decorations up October, why? There are other things before Xmas, Halloween, bonfire night it’s like it all merged into one.

I love Xmas/new year, get my tree up first weekend in December and that is the start of my festivities, panto, Xmas nights out, seeing friends and family etc and this carries on till the new year, it wouldn’t feel right to me without all my decorations up still

FlipFlops4Me · 26/12/2021 15:19

Ours will come down New Years Day and yes, there will be a chucking out session. We have bought a smaller, pre-lit tree for next year and will finally get rid of this one. That'll save some space under the bed!

woodhill · 26/12/2021 15:21

No, because my tree only went up on the 18th so will stay up until 12th night

pluggee · 26/12/2021 15:23

@Mocara I enjoyed your post & We pause the real world for as long as possible resonated. I always feel like xmas is the one time of year/holiday that's it's ok to completely relax, indulge, spend time with family just together. I love it & hate when it ends

Sleepyquest · 26/12/2021 15:25

I like to keep it up but don't get to twelfth night as I like it down before I return to work in Jan. We are expecting a baby shortly though so would like to do some cleaning and sorting whilst DH is still off work! So it may come down earlier.

augustusglupe · 26/12/2021 16:42

No. My tree only went up 2 weeks ago. It'll stay up til Jan 5th, like it's meant too.

schnubbins · 26/12/2021 17:11

I only put my tree up on the 23rd so it is staying up until the 6th of January .I got a beautiful tree this year and I am really enjoying it.

coochyboochy · 26/12/2021 17:13

It is funny when people say Xmas lasts for 12 days because nowadays there are no actual celebrations or events after New Year so I wonder in what actual respect (other than a religious one) that Xmas continues? All the events and celebrations are in the build up and end at New Year.

Holothane · 26/12/2021 17:27

Yes mine will come down tomorrow

lonsdaleshorts · 26/12/2021 17:58

Mine will be down tomorrow or Tuesday. Its nothing to do with them being up early. It's to do with how we celebrate in our house. There has always been a real lack of understanding that others spend December and Christmas differently and get their knickers in a knot when some take theirs down today or over the next few days. Everyone is different and Christmas means different things to different families.

I was just going to type the same thing. I grew up in a highly religious family, so the whole 12 night thing made sense… but I feel that if you’re not religious, why the 12 nights? Asking genuinely, not sarcastically. Why does it matter if you’re not religious?
Fallagain · 26/12/2021 18:10

Nope. I need to find spaces for the kids gift but we had a clear our in October so we have the space. I got crap gifts too but that’s my fault for not giving enough suggestions.

But I can’t wait to get of Christmas cards. I really hate them. And I’m ready for some more basic meals.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 26/12/2021 18:44

You do you, OP.

My tree went up on 6 December, and won't come down until 6 January - I love it, not sick of it at all, I feel so sad taking my decorations down every year.

Also, as I'm divorced, I've not had Christmas with my adult DC yet, so am I fuck taking it down. I have round two in a few days, including presents, turkey and all the trimmings.

bedheadedzombie · 26/12/2021 18:50

No to the first, yes to the second. I'm Kondo'ing my wardrobe and throwing lots out (well taking them to the charity shop but you get my drift).

tillyandmilly · 26/12/2021 19:37

It’s Unlucky to take the tree down before 12th day - ? 🎄

SparkleWhale · 26/12/2021 19:38

I took mine down today, had a clear out, booked a tip slot, and reorganised the living room. Christmas was not great this year after bereavement so I'm glad to see the back of it and to get ready to move into 2022.

spiderlight · 26/12/2021 19:39

I could cheerfully have taken ours down this morning! I'll leave it up until after NYE to avoid upsetting DS, but it'll be down on 2nd January at the latest.

GoodnightGrandma · 26/12/2021 20:14

No it’s not. I leave one decoration up until then.
