I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

We take our decorations down on New Year's Day but I'm going go start sorting and tidying this morning!

SundayTeatime · 26/12/2021 08:14

I wouldn’t take anything down until Twelfth Night. Christmas has only just begun.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 26/12/2021 08:18

Mine have been up since first weekend in December and won’t be down until the 12th night. It’s still Christmas to me and I’m still in my jammies, eating left overs and drinking Asti I like it to go on as long as possible Xmas Grin

AutumnAnn · 26/12/2021 08:43

I'll probably take ours down on the 30th, i like a fresh start and to deep clean just before the new year but honestly i could happily leave it up until February, i love Christmas. What I'm not excited about is the annual game of Tetris i have to play with all the Christmas tree, light and decorations boxes, having 3 trees isn't as fun to take down as it is to put up, ironically I'm looking for a 4th for my daughters bedroom for next year.

oneglassandpuzzled · 26/12/2021 08:47

If you put your decorations up too early of course you’ll be bored before Christmas is even over.

AuntieStella · 26/12/2021 08:49

No, I don't like to cut festivals short and Christmas is 12 days.

Though if someone has a family member with a birthday that falls before Twelfth Night, I can see why they might want to separate the celebrations by changing the decorations

Tumbleweed101 · 26/12/2021 08:51

Yesterday was a bit chaotic so our relaxing Christmas Day will be today. My children then go to their dads tomorrow so depending on how I feel I may or may not take things down and do a good clean in an empty house … or maybe just enjoy it.

Most years it’s all packed away ready for going back to work and school after new year because I don’t have time again then to get things in the loft etc.

Limer · 26/12/2021 08:52

No way! Christmas has only just started!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/12/2021 08:58

I worked up until Christmas eve so it feels like the holiday has only just started. Will keep mine up until 12th night.

Lovemusic33 · 26/12/2021 09:03

Usually I’ve had enough by the 26th/27th but this year we haven’t got many decorations up, just a potted tree and a couple bits of tinsel dotted around the living room, so it doesn’t feel as cluttered. We will probably take it down closer to new year.

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2021 09:24

I like a good sort out and throw out. Dump slot booked tomorrow because we are doing ds bedroom!

I also like tree down before new year and house all ready and sorted.

I much prefer the build up to the come down.

But..... I had amazing gifts - thoughtful and useful (and some Mners worst nightmare Xmas Grin). I just like to have it all packed away so I can use it rather than sitting out on show.

Beeinalily · 26/12/2021 09:37

Always take our decorations down on New year's day, it's a bit of a ritual. But when I was small we'd put them up on Christmas eve and down on Boxing day and those three days were absolutely magical!

NalPolishRemover · 26/12/2021 09:38

Absolutely not! I never understand this obsession to put everything up in November & whip it all down on the 26th.

I read on another thread recently that at least 1 mumsnetter takes theirs down on the evening of 25th!! And I have to admit that shocked / surprised me as I simply couldn't imagine facing into doing that on Christmas night, never mind how utterly joyless it must be...

Ours went up on 20th & will stay up until the 5th or 6th

Christmas has literally JUST started for us here. We generally don't eat Christmas food / treats before this week so it's all still v new & we're not sick of it.

If you've been eating mince pies / chocolates etc all month or longer with the decorations up then it's little wonder you're ready to put it all away today

Redsquirrel5 · 26/12/2021 09:42

No, ours has only been up a week. It will stay up until Twelfth Night. I don’t like seeing trees up too early. I counted four in nearby villages that went up in November and at probably down today.

Justkeeppedaling · 26/12/2021 09:43

Christmas Day is traditionally the start of Christmas, not the end.

In the last 20-30 years Christmas has turned into mass consumer spending and partying during December (though not so much the last two years), so much so that we're all excited and fed up by the time Christmas actually starts.

Bromeliad · 26/12/2021 09:48

My granny always reminisces about how they always celebrated and left the decorations up until Candlemass when she grew up on the farm. There wasn't much to do in the winter months so it was a good excuse for a long party. It really isn't a new thing for Christmas to last for months.

Pegasussnail · 26/12/2021 09:48

That's very unusual to take the tree down christmas night! Each to their own.
We will take them about the 2nd but I might put some (eg red santa boots etc) away sooner.

2toastornot2toast · 26/12/2021 09:54

Yes I always feel like this! I'm hanging in to the tree a bit longer for the dc and a few other decs but gradually removing the rest! Will try to resist the clear out until NY but I do love getting it all cleared away.
We started xmas early too and I'm over it now!

boomboomboom123 · 26/12/2021 09:55

I defo know what you mean we've all had covid in our household so Christmas Day landed on day ten of isolation and I am just fed up. Was still feeling rough so forgot to cook most of the meal so now got to cook a roast again today to use it up. I got some lovely presents but spent the whole day making the kids pressies and trying not to drown in wrapping paper. I used to love Christmas as a kid but now realise it's because mum did everything and I got to enjoy the magic. Lol. Been waiting over 72 hours for pcr results for the kids so still can't go anywhere and they are so full
Of beans. It's not been the best.

HipHopBanzai · 26/12/2021 09:56

I can't imagine taking my tree down until the New Year. These few days between Christmas and New Year are Christmas for me. Love having the smell of the real tree and twinkly lights in the house.

ginislife · 26/12/2021 09:57

I went down to make a cup of tea at 9.00 and mine are all gone, tree is outside, decs packed away, house back to normal. It seems the 19yo had a cleaning fit last night after I'd gone to bed. Hurrah !!

Whatwillbewilbe · 26/12/2021 09:58

Ours have always been up till 12th night, but in the last few years they've been taken down on 2nd January. It will be the same this year. My birthday is on the 28th and it would feel weird to me not having them up then.

isittheholidaysyet · 26/12/2021 09:59

Only just put the decorations up on the 23rd/24th. They will be staying for the whole Christmas season, maybe not all the way to Feb 2nd, but certainly till the middle of Jan.

Only started Christmas food etc yesterday. No way I'm stopping on day 2!

supercalifragilistic123 · 26/12/2021 10:00

I've just taken ours down this morning.

But we've only got a little house and it is very much in the way. The kids need more space to play with their new toys and it's been up for 3 weeks. I think that's long enough!

hiredandsqueak · 26/12/2021 10:03

Not yet, although I have reclaimed the downstairs this morning so everything is put away and there is no sign of there being anything extra here. It will change when dgs gets here with his toys but that is temporary and don't mind it.
