I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

My tree came down last night. The rest of the decorations will follow tomorrow. I have covid and it’s been a shit Christmas. I can’t wait to clean my house properly and be rid till next year.

You took them down on Christmas Day, even when Ill?
KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 26/12/2021 20:45

Nope. Mine will be up until 12th night and the fairy lights round the house won't come down at all because I like them to much. I enjoy a bit of sparkle all the way through the winter months.

CharlotteRose90 · 26/12/2021 20:47

@Bluntness100 I didn’t personally no my family did. Despite us all being positive I’m worse then them so I stayed on the sofa .

It’s Unlucky to take the tree down before 12th day - ? 🎄
What bollocks.
Essemce · 26/12/2021 21:12

My tree is down and now I start my new job next week so will be able to. Focus on that now

FindingMeno · 26/12/2021 21:16

I love getting the tree and decorations down at the first opportunity.
All the Christmas clutter inspires me to move deeper into minimalism.

I thought it was the opposite and it was unlucky to leave decorations up beyond Twelfth Night?

We usually take ours down on NYD.

DappledThings · 26/12/2021 21:26

Why do people put them up at all if they get so stressed out by them and can't wait to bring them down again?

FindingMeno · 26/12/2021 21:40

@DappledThings for other people obviously.

Holothane · 26/12/2021 21:41

I normally love Christmas but not this year it’s over as far as I’m concerned trees down tomorrow.I’ll get rid of the cards as well.

Do other people really enjoy them if they know they are under such sufferance? Just seems a very odd dynamic to me

AlbertBridge · 26/12/2021 21:45

Not yet, no. I do completely know the feeling you're talking about though - but I haven't got it yet.

AuntyBumBum · 26/12/2021 21:48

Ours stay up until 6th January, it's a miserable enough time without stripping the place bare until you have to! Our council tree-collection team come round shortly thereafter, we miss that at our peril.

We always go all out for our real tree and I love having a beautiful tree. It goes up around the 12th Dec and comes down on 2nd Jan or thereabouts (depending on work schedules)

I spend way too much time moaning about the pine needles and droopiness of the tree but that's just part of Christmas in our house Grin

It would feel wrong to not have it up on NYE but when I decide its time to take it down then it has to go. And quickly. I find it too sad otherwise.

There is something thoroughly depressing about putting all the sparkly decorations away and knowing its a whole year until we get to do it all over again

(I classed myself as -10 on a thread about how festive I was feeling on 22/23 but the fact is my life is happier with my tree and lights and decorations!!)

FindingMeno · 26/12/2021 21:56

@DappledThings and @AuntyBumBum it's become a standing joke. I wander about whinging about the decorations and everyone laughs, then I get to take them down quickly as revenge. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it Grin

AppleButterfly · 26/12/2021 21:59

I usually take it down boxing day but unfortunately couldn't today. Will be tomorrow, late, can't wait.

Andoffwego · 26/12/2021 22:05

No way. I don’t enjoy new year at all and always take the tree down on New Year’s Day because I’m completely over it by then, but one of the loveliest bits of Christmas for me is the few days between Boxing Day and New Year when you’re sort of pootling about not having to do anything, Christmas tree lights on, all relaxed because the stress of Christmas is over, bit of posh cheese whenever you fancy it, leftover pudding, jigsaws and books. It’s so nice.

stackhead · 26/12/2021 22:11

Tree down on NYE. I'm a new years scrooge anyway (all the forced merriment and drinking is not for me) and it symbolizes the end of the year and start of a new one.

Not religious, couldn't give a hoot about wise men meeting Jesus. Christmas is just an end of year/winter celebration to me.

Summerofcontent · 26/12/2021 22:12

We didn't have a Christmas tree this year.

I didn't think it would survive this

Anjo2011 · 26/12/2021 22:14

Before kids we would go away so didn’t bother with a tree. I’d take it down tomorrow if I could but will keep it for the next few days. We have to re arrange our living space to accommodate the tree and it doesn’t work practically so looking forward to getting back to some sense of normality. I also like a good clean and tidy up as well as finding homes for the pressies.

reluctantbrit · 26/12/2021 22:15

12th night here to get the tree down. We only do a small amount from 1st advent onwards, the tree was done on the 21st .

I had a crap month at work so the days now are to actually feel that i'ts Christmas.

I hate January and February mainly so everything to delay the doom is welcome.

Anjo2011 · 26/12/2021 22:17

Just to add, I hate Christmas cards too. They just constantly fall over. Mine are all in a pile waiting to go in the bin.
