Anyone else want to take the tree and decs down, and have a good throw out ?

I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

I will never understand people who are itching to take the tree down on Boxing Day and ‘have a good clean’.

The ‘itching to clean’ thing must be genetic. Pleased to say I am evidently lacking that one.,

I think they're the same people who are itching to get it up around about bonfire night. Could be fleas? Grin

That’s it done! Tree down

Maybe, but mine went up 12th November and won't be down until January 6th. In fact I leave some of them up (lights in particular) throughout the rest of winter. I like a bit of sparkle on a cold, dark night.

Mine will probably come down around new year’s. I need to wait for dc to get home from dad’s (30th) to help me lift the boxes, but we go away (hopefully and covid permitting!) on the 2nd, so need it done before then. I started yesterday on other cleaning / clearing out though.

Holothane · 27/12/2021 17:01

Done mine and on the quiet quiet thrown out most of the Christmas stuff not used cards down that’s it as far as I’m concerned thank god. There’ll be more chucking next week as well.

AutumnAlmanack · 27/12/2021 19:11

I have steathily got rid of the cards today - tomorrow will be the lights in baskets outside. Onwards to NYD when the whole lot will go into storage!!!

I'll take mine down around new year or just after. I quite like my tree, its an artificial one and goes up on 1st December. That said, today I've been putting presents away and filling a bag for the charity shop. Kind of feel a bit over it and will be pleased to get back to normal.

SocialConnection · 28/12/2021 15:00

I've been quietly taking bits down since yesterday morning. I really feel OVER IT and I now want flowers, buds, pretty pink candles, lemony flowery scents - I want salad and different lighter tasting food and everything red, gold, dark green, glittery feels dull and dreary and tat. The wheel has turned and we're heading up to spring.

stargirl1701 · 28/12/2021 15:13

Winter literally just began on the Solstice. Spring isn't until mid-March!

Dollywilde · 28/12/2021 15:47

I know what you mean @stargirl1701 but I’m with @SocialConnection. For me the hardest bit of the year is between the tree coming down and the first daffodils coming out. You need something to cling to in the gloom, and the ‘spring is coming’ message keeps me going…

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 28/12/2021 15:48

Our tree is usually up mid December and certainly not down before 12th night. It's so festive and comforting and pretty. We love the twinkly lights against the cards.

AutumnAlmanack · 28/12/2021 17:09

@Dollywilde - me too! The good thing is that now we are past the shortest day, every single day is getting lighter gradually. A way to go yet but we are on the road to spring!

@SocialConnection - I am now craving pink candles! I always have boring white ones, but pink would suit my house very well!

SocialConnection · 28/12/2021 18:19

If you look in the garden and parks round here, daffodil and leucojum bulbs are springing into green spikes, there are buds on the flowering trees, foxes are moving about screaming for mates. Whatever the calendar says, the earth is saying it's on its way.

stargirl1701 · 28/12/2021 18:52

Not here in Perthshire! We get our best snow in February most years.

DappledThings · 28/12/2021 20:03

We unplugged the outside lights on 22nd when we went away. Back late last night and then out all day today. Tomorrow we will reconnect the lead and they will go back on till Twelfth Night. Not taking them down early even if they have been put of action for a week!

We leave ours going full blast while we're away! Discourages burglars, and helps to guide us home (the glow in the night sky can be seen from the next county Grin)

Coming down today as rubbish collection is tomorrow

Robin233 · 02/01/2022 21:07

Tree down yesterday.
Good clear up.
House feels fresher now.
Christmas was great.
Now it is time to start the new year.
