Anyone else want to take the tree and decs down, and have a good throw out ?

I had a disappointing Xmas day, crap presents and a lot of work, and now I’m really over it.
Had the tree up longer than I normally do, and started enjoying the season at the beginning of `December, by watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket. So basically I’m over it already !
I want to put all the presents away and take the tree down. I hate new year, I’m just ready for spring now.

@Summerofcontent

We didn't have a Christmas tree this year.

I didn't think it would survive this

Oh yes the joys of a puppy. Saying that though last year my 5 year old spaniel took the tree down Atleast 10 times and loved to wee on it 😂😂
Summerofcontent · 26/12/2021 22:53

Just love spaniels.
We have two older ones too (9 and 7) and never had any bother with them.

The first dog we ever had was a lab and we had to put the tree in a playpen to stop her attacking it

GuyFawkesDay · 26/12/2021 22:54

Our spaniel pup hasn't bothered once with the tree. Hes bloody loved counter surfing for treats, mind 🙈

ZZGirl · 26/12/2021 22:56

I took mine down today. They went up late November so i was ready to have my house back to normal. Only a day earlier than I normally take them down

Blossomtoes · 26/12/2021 22:58

I hate taking them down. The room looks naked without them. And they’ve only been up for eight days! They’ll come down on twelfth night and not before.

Abracadabra12345 · 26/12/2021 23:00

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii

Mine have been up since first weekend in December and won’t be down until the 12th night. It’s still Christmas to me and I’m still in my jammies, eating left overs and drinking Asti I like it to go on as long as possible Xmas Grin
You sound just like me!

watching Xmas films and drinking hot chocolate with a snuggly blanket

Sounds like hell. How can you do that for practically the entire month of December?

IKissedSantaClaus · 26/12/2021 23:10

I've never felt like I 'can't wait' to take them down. It's always slightly tinged with sadness that another Christmas is over and it's a year before they'll come back out again.

emsmar · 26/12/2021 23:14

Usually get rid of it all and do a massive clear up on the 26th but have been out visiting both days. It's all getting packed away tomorrow. Always treat myself to some lovely fresh flowers and a new room spray that's not festive smelling! Feels great!!

WouldBeGood · 26/12/2021 23:27

Kids go to their dad’s tomorrow so I’m taking them down then.

I’m in Scotland so any new year fun is banned, socialising unlikely, so no point

Goldiemummy · 26/12/2021 23:30

I really enjoy Christmas and I love the decorations and tree being up but now Boxing Day is over, I would happily tidy everything away.

almondcaramelcoconut · 26/12/2021 23:58

I would be happy to have it taken down now, but I'm not quite so enthusiastic about doing it myself. DH would probably prefer it stay up until January 13th. Maybe we'll compromise.

starfishofbethlehem · 27/12/2021 00:27

@Sooverthemill

That's what happens if you start Christmas too soon! We decorated our tree on Christmas Eve in the evening just like my parents did. So it's been up just over 24 hours and I still love it. It comes down on 1 January usually ( actually gets put back outside as it's a living tree).

I know what you mean though if you've had a bad day it feels,like Christmas is rubbish but our day was lovely

We are the same. Decorations go up on Christmas Eve.
RhubarbCustardy · 27/12/2021 00:31

I'm glad its over, all seemed a bit flat this year tbh. So yeah agree with OP.

BornOnTwelfthNight · 27/12/2021 00:46

Christmas has just started, we’ve only just started on the Christmas food yesterday. This week is my week to chill and do nothing after a hectic few weeks organising everything. I make sure I have enough food in so I don’t have to go shopping until after the New year.

It takes me a couple of days to put up the trees and decorations at the beginning of December (both inside and out!) and my house feels so warm and cosy.
When they come down the house feels bare and January is drab an dreary enough as it is, mine stay up until 12th Night or thereabouts. I want to enjoy them as long as possible!

Annike4 · 27/12/2021 00:53

Mine sty up until Epiphany.

KingofQueens · 27/12/2021 01:34

No, ours went up on 20th and are usually up until 12th night,but we are away on the 30th this year and I don't trust the cat with the tree, so it will be down on the 29th this year.
We don't really do anything Christmassy in the run up - first Christmas film we watched was on Christmas Eve evening, don't visit Santa or anything like that. We do it all in the 12 days of Christmas- usually a show but not this year, reindeer visit, drive around to look at the Christmas lights, walk followed by a pub with a fire...so we're only just getting into it.

Lostinafield · 27/12/2021 08:27

@ivykaty44

Ah its the annual MN who can take their Xmas tree down first thread...... yes as they like to declare - xmas is over, as if its a one day event
For some of us who live alone and suffer from depression, it is actually a one day event.
Lostinafield · 27/12/2021 08:34

Sorry that sounded a bit self-pitying. I meant for some it is just one day of celebration (and some people don't even get that) so it would be nice if others didn't judge what anyone else does with their decorations.

GoodnightGrandma · 27/12/2021 08:41

For me Xmas is just one day. Boxing Day is just a relaxing day, we have no family to see.
I enjoy the run up to Xmas, seeing lights go up and Xmas films on TV, but yes it’s just one day.

I didn't bother this year. Couldn't be arsed 🤷‍♂️

Sparklydiplodocus · 27/12/2021 09:32

@Lostinafield I’m with you. Christmas is a painful time for me. My grandma died at Christmas and it is heavily tainted by sad memories of my abusive parents. I don’t want to be looking at a tree and decorations til January. I join in for dc’s sake but it’s not something I revel in.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2021 10:11

I will never understand people who are itching to take the tree down on Boxing Day and ‘have a good clean’.

The ‘itching to clean’ thing must be genetic. Pleased to say I am evidently lacking that one.,

FindingMeno · 27/12/2021 11:43

I'm more excited about getting the tree down and have a clear up today than I was about actual Christmas.

Pegasussnail · 27/12/2021 12:06

Finding memo that made me laugh out loud.

I am going to start sneaking things into storage bit my bit from tomorrow.
