Guess I’m going to the shops after all. How has everyone else done?

I'm paying £££ for an Ocado slot tomorrow. I have a midweek pass but you have to pay for the delivery in Christmas week. Fair enough. Not best pleased to get an email earlier offering me a free delivery tomorrow if I book today! Slightly mollified to get another email at the same time offering me a free bottle of plum gin with a delivery next week. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.

LadyPenelope68 · 22/12/2021 15:44

Ocado - 2 subs, both just bigger packs than I’d ordered. Was impressed on such a big order.

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/12/2021 15:55

Only subs from Morrisons were one packet of fancy crisps for another, and a larger size of sour cream. I'm almost disappointed, I wanted an excuse to browse around Sainsbury's tomorrow. I'll see how it goes...

8Track · 22/12/2021 15:56

Pleasantly surprised my 80-odd item Ocado order is apparently all going to arrive, with smoked salmon swapped for a better value packet the only sub. Marvelous!

Still need a quick pop to Lidl for foil and the Christmas Eve bockwurst though.

StarfishDish · 22/12/2021 16:06
@StarfishDish do you work for Tesco? Yes I have paid for someone to do the shop but not paid someone to take away the stressful bit! It has become massively more stressful because I chose to have my shopping delivered, something I have done every week for the past 15 years.
@Nowmum43 No, I don't work for Tesco. Surely you must realise that in the last week before Christmas, some things might not be available. I also do online shopping (Morrisons) and have been adding stuff for Christmas to each shop over the past month. Maybe try that next year?

Erictheavocado · 22/12/2021 16:13

@Moomarre

We had a similar issue with our Festive Food to Order dessert - I called them and they refunded me, plus a bit extra as a goodwill gesture. Might be worth calling?
Apart from that one thing, everything I ordered was available , so no real complaints.

Somebodylikeyew · 22/12/2021 16:14

Ocado came this morning- nothing missing, dates all fine, just a different brand of one non essential item; i was quite impressed tbh!

WTFUterus · 22/12/2021 16:26

Tesco handed our click and collect order (including pre ordered Festive Food to Good items) to another customer!
When we turned up they gave us a complimentary packed of mince pies and a shrug of the shoulders.
After speaking to a member of staff in store we are getting a delivery this evening but there's a lot of stuff now out of stock

SilverGlassHare · 22/12/2021 17:27

Had our Tesco delivery first thing this morning - one sensible sub. I still have to go out to Marks tomorrow for the treat things.

Foolsrule · 22/12/2021 17:31

Main shop came from Sainsbury’s on Monday evening. No subs. Popped to the store today as there are always a few bits I like to choose myself (and knowing I might have had to fill any gaps in Monday’s order).

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2021 17:41

Mine is due tomorrow at 5pm. I honestly don’t mind, there’s nothing that urgent I can’t get from the lovely local Coop at 8am Friday if needed. Turkey is being delivered from t’butcher tomorrow.

herestoyoucolinrobinson · 22/12/2021 17:47

Mine is in the morning. I'm concerned about the turkey mostly, which is daft as I'm veggie and have my quorn roast already! It's a massive order so I'm expecting a lot of subs/missing items.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/12/2021 18:02

Still waiting for Tesco. But I’ve had an email with the order, subs etc… was a bit surprised. So apparently 2 subs. Everything else available.

How do you get this email? We don't get one!!
Anaximedes · 22/12/2021 18:26

Our family has had 3 deliveries of Christmas food over the past few days.

first one: 3 sensible subs, 2 more missing items, none of the key items missing

second one: 1 sensible sub, 2 more items missing, no key items missing

third one (very big order): 4 sensible subs, 3 more items missing, no key items missing

All Ocado. Not bad at all given the supply chain issues that currently exist, and the sizes of the orders lrelative to number of missing/subbed items. We always put a bit of slack in our orders and then make up other meals or put in the freezer for later, so that missing items aren't the end of the world, as far as possible. I've had a few weird and wonderful subs over the years, a swapped non-food bag once, and a few accidentally-missing items, but I could count them on one hand. All refunded without question, of course.

I really can't be bothered to run around the shops as well as having a supermarket delivery if at all possible so for the most-part we cook with what's there. 15 items missing including a turkey etc. would piss me right off though. Which is why I only use Ocado, personally, as I've had good results with them before and during the pandemic, and not so good with a couple of other supermarkets.

I really do feel for everyone who is having trouble with their deliveries and getting slots at the moment, and consider myself fortunate to live in an area served by Ocado and be able to afford it. And near lots of supermarkets if I should happen to decide to go into one after all. I've been in very different positions in the past.

amysaurus87 · 22/12/2021 18:35

Needed spring onions....got sent a spring bouquet of flowers!

Erictheavocado · 22/12/2021 18:38

I'm really intrigued by those of you who are Tesco customers and who have had emails telling you what subs you are getting - we've been ordering online since 2000, had delivery saver since it first existed and have never had an email advising us of subs etc prior to delivery. IMO it's the only serious failing when comparing Tesco's online service to other supermarkets.

PickleSarnie · 22/12/2021 18:42

Ocado just delivered. Peanuts substituted for peanuts. Bag of crisps missing.

Pretty happy with that. Although ocado never have many subs.

I had this email on 25/10/21:

"We’ve been trialling sending out electronic receipts via email. They’re sent out on the day of your delivery or collection, once your order has been picked. That means you can see any changes to your order before it’s delivered to your door or collected from one of our Click+Collect locations. This has been alongside giving you a paper delivery note with your shopping.

As part of our continued aim to reduce paper use, we’ll now be removing paper delivery notes. We’ll gradually phase out paper receipts for all customers and only send an e-receipt.

A big benefit of e-receipts is you can see substitutions before your delivery or collection. This gives you more time to decide whether to accept a substitution or return the item to your driver or Click+Collect colleague as normal for a refund. Don’t forget, you’ll never be charged any more for a substitution, even if it’s at a higher cost than the product you chose.

The e-receipt will only be sent to the registered email account of the person placing the order. So if you’ve ordered for someone else, you’ll be the only one to receive the email.

Thank you for shopping with us – and look out for your e-receipt with your next online order."

And my first email was on the 29 Oct. So less of a trial and more a just doing it.

sarahtalkstoomuch · 22/12/2021 18:46

I haven’t read this whole thread so someone may have said the same thing, but I have worked as an online shopping packer at Sainsburys while I was furloughed last year and this year.

You have to pick, scan and pack (into the correct box or bag) around 160 items an hour. Also, we weren’t allowed to say there wasn’t an alternative, we ALWAYS had to do a substitution, even if I was something really random and nonsensical. Shifts started at 3am so we would be picking stuff from shelves that hadn’t yet been restocked. Once someone wanted pre-natal vitamins - there were none at all so I had choose vitamin C, because pushing the “no product” button was a total no go. I’ve had ocado orders myself where there’s stuff missing so other places do it differently

Someone upthread said they went to their supermarket and were able to get 18 of the 20 things that were missing from their order - of course you were. Restocked shelves and probably 8-12 hours after we were putting your order together.

It’s not a hard job, obviously, but it’s tiring, especially trying to do it all against the clock. You’d get told off for being slow! I always tried my best to pick good substitutes but as with all jobs, there were a few people who didn’t give a shit

Figgit · 22/12/2021 18:50

Ocado. Two subs, both minor ones (crisps and croissants instead of pain au chocolat)
We only got the ‘extra’ bits though - the main things like meat, cheese, wine, we had delivered today by local suppliers. No subs there!

Oblomov21 · 22/12/2021 18:53

I think this is poor. There is hardly any good reason for most of these subs.

caringcarer · 22/12/2021 19:08

Birds Eye fish bites became Pollock fillets not even in bread RBS or batter. Annoyingly they arrived 30 mins early before I got home and Ds just accepted them. No brandy snaps and I had ordered 5 boxes for Xmas.

caringcarer · 22/12/2021 19:08

Also no raspberry pavlova but not subbed for anything.

Poppins17 · 22/12/2021 20:34

Just had 8pm Asda delivery - only 3 subs - parsley instead of sage, pork crunch instead of pork scratchings and 700g pack of chicken instead of 1kg - not bad. I’m impressed with the dates on things too - most 28th December!
