Guess I’m going to the shops after all. How has everyone else done?

Just had Waitrose deliver one sub, but the sub was fine, two items not available. So all in all not too bad.

copernicium · 22/12/2021 13:46

Last week I had 37 unavailable items, of which 19 things were ridiculous subs that the driver refused to take back, so around £50 worth of items from a £75 shop; from Asda.

This week I used tesco and spent much more and had two subs and no missing items. And the subs were just different brands of the right item.

SallyOMalley · 22/12/2021 13:48

Just been to collect my shop. Dh sorted that out while I went in to find alternatives for the 2 or 3 subs we didn't want. Very quiet and in and out in minutes. Job done! (Including ready to bake croissants for Xmas morning).

Roominmyhouse · 22/12/2021 13:50

Sainsburys due at 3pm. One sensible sub for a dessert so as long as dates are ok on everything I’m very happy. Had the same last year too, they seem to fair better than the others based on the very small sample size in this thread!

NanooCov · 22/12/2021 13:54

4 sensible subs in my Ocado order this morning and none were things for "the big day" so all good.

Mercedes519 · 22/12/2021 13:55

Sainsbo here.

What always irritates me is that they sub by volume rather than weight. So I order 2 x 400g of cheese and they sub 2x 200g. Just give me 4 you numpties!

Staffy1 · 22/12/2021 13:57

Had a similar amount of substitutions or not available at all from sainsburys this week.

Nowmum43 · 22/12/2021 13:59

I'm so angry, currently my Tesco shop which is due to be deliver tomorrow has loads of stuff unavailable and no decent substitutions. I'm now going to have to wait in till 11am for it to be delivered and then brave the shops for the things the don't have. Which is mostly puddings for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. What is the point in getting a Christmas week slot if you can't get anything.
I'd have cancelled it to be honest if I didn't have £54 in clubcard vouchers and I'm seriously considering choosing a different shop to shop at after shopping there for over 15 years. A great stressful start to the Christmas festivities 😤

Dagnabit · 22/12/2021 14:00

4 decent subs and 1 not available from Tesco. One of the subs was £20 worth of crackers for £3 and the unavailable was easy to get from B&M because it was one of dd’s gifts for her brother

It's just the same as if you went to the shop though.
RadioSixMusicLover · 22/12/2021 14:03

@loopylindi

do posters really think that once they've placed their order it's picked and sits in a basket until delivery? I might have got the wrong end of the stick but that's the impression I get from some of these posts.
If the shop has customers in and out then you’ve as much chance as they have when shopping for puddings, cakes, crackers etc etc. And people have shopped super early for those this year. Only the dark stores ie Ocado, can predict how much they need for Christmas and they don’t get it right if a delivery doesn’t show up. If it’s on the shelf it’s fair game for everyone, physical or online shoppers. The only (supposed) guarantee are items you’ve reserved especially for you, M&S entertaining items etc. Even that is subject to availability. There’s no magic store of stuff for online customers.
AdaColeman · 22/12/2021 14:07

Ocado here, delivered this morning.
5 items completely unavailable, only one of them a key item in a meal.

4 items substituted, mainly Hovis and M&S own breads.
I'd ordered small loaves but I didn't notice until unpacking that the substitutes were large loaves. So I won't be short of bread! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin
Overall, not too bad, especially this close to Christmas. Xmas Smile

@Nowmum43 Its the same in the shops though. They're only picking the same stuff as what you'd have if you went shopping.
SheWolfOFFrancee · 22/12/2021 14:20

I cancelled my slot which showed everything pretty much as unavailable and went to my local tesco and got everything I wanted including the puddings!

I think my tesco online order must come from a different store to the one in our town because everything that was unavailable online they had tons of in store

sparklemagicsnow · 22/12/2021 14:22

I've got Morrisons coming today. 2 (sensible but I don't want) subs both for Christmas things (a cheese and a pate) and 4 missing items. Not bad for a £200 shop. I'll need to nip out tomorrow and get those bits but other than that I'm done so I'm pretty pleased with them!

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 14:23

@Nowmum43 Its the same in the shops though. They're only picking the same stuff as what you'd have if you went shopping. exactly you don't get to jump the queue and get priority turkey access. It's just you pay someone else to do the stressful bit for you.

Nowmum43 · 22/12/2021 14:25

Not paying someone to do the stressful bit though as I'm still having to go to the shops, so now double stress of a delivery shop that doesn't have the stuff I need and then the stress of going to the shops to find the stuff i didn't get. Something I don't have time to do and the reason I get a delivery in the first place!

Next time just go to the shop yourself then and its just the one lot of stress. You can't expect to have priority to things just because you ordered online.
Fallagain · 22/12/2021 14:30

Just to up date, the 15 subs were the unsuitable ones (mostly due to allergies) and no where near the total number of subs.

@Nowmum43 You are paying somebody. You paid somebody to pick your shopping. They didn't have it in stock so it didn't get sent. Its exactly the same as when you go shopping. Thats the risk you take with online shopping.
Nowmum43 · 22/12/2021 14:31

Ah yes, two kids, and doing the Christmas is always going to be less stressful! I'll just go to Aldi next time and give Tesco a miss for next year.

JeffThePilot · 22/12/2021 14:32

5 subs on mine and nothing else unavailable. I’m pleasantly surprised. I think you’ve been really unlucky OP.

Nowmum43 · 22/12/2021 14:33

@StarfishDish do you work for Tesco? Yes I have paid for someone to do the shop but not paid someone to take away the stressful bit! It has become massively more stressful because I chose to have my shopping delivered, something I have done every week for the past 15 years.

Thepineapplemystery · 22/12/2021 14:39

4 subs. 1 sensible, 3 unusable so sent them back and will go shopping tomorrow. Pigs in blankets were dated 24th so I'll freeze those.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/12/2021 14:41

My Asda delivery today was very good, one item missing and no subs.
In the meantime OH went to get a few bits and came back with a chicken and pate both dated 24th, and a large tray of canapés (for Christmas Day) dated 23rd 🤦‍♀️ .
