Guess I’m going to the shops after all. How has everyone else done?

Tesco. All sensible subs but some had to go back for allergy reasons.

HibiscusIsland · 22/12/2021 10:59

Mines tomorrow morning and it's saying it's available at the moment but if not I'll go to the local shops. I've bought what I can beforehand and the turkey is a reserved order

U8976532 · 22/12/2021 10:59

I'm a bit nervous, looked at my order and loads unavailable (it's not until tomorrow) so can't amend the order or I won't get subbed. Hoping it'll be better than it looks currently, but always expect to go to the shop either way but hopefully for only a couple of things!

@Halfarsedjingler

Not exactly a shock in the week before Christmas.
Why did you feel the need to answer like that?
Omicrone · 22/12/2021 11:02

This is exactly why I don't do an online shop for Christmas and also I'm too disorganised to get a slot in time.

Ultimately it's just easier to go to the shops isn't it? This year as well I have got a few bits every time I have gone out, including perishable stuff that have later use by dates in the last couple of trips, including Turkey yesterday. I now don't have that much to buy in my 'big shop' now. Much less stressful than the online shop arriving and lots of things missing.

EveningOverRooftops · 22/12/2021 11:12

No problems here but I’d got most of Xmas dinner sorted and in the feeezer weeks ago and picked up cheese/pate etc with Jan use by dates and they’ve been in the salad drawer for a few weeks.

Stopped doing online orders a few years back for Xmas and alway planned early as I hate taking DC shopping and I’m a single mother.

I’ll be baking bread for Xmas and have UHT milk and canned soup etc on standby for the last 18mth in case we are forced into another isolation period. We’ve already his 7/8 in this year alone so ….

Xtraincome · 22/12/2021 11:15

I decided not to book a delivery this year but will brave the 24 hour tesco tonight at a silly hour so I can take my time- not doing traditional Xmas Dinner though so may be OK. Last year, the subs were awful from Morrisons.

TangfasticsAreFantastic · 22/12/2021 11:16

@SallyOMalley

Four or five subs with sainsburys. Most okay - except for frozen ready to bake croissants which have been subbed with an apple strudel!
If my frozen croissants are anything to go by you're not missing out! They look like they had defrosted under a crate of heavy bottles then re-frozen! They're so flat it's almost comical.

My helpful DH, who is totally oblivious to most things, said he "thought they always came flat and puffed up while cooking". I tried some at the weekend and they're not as nice as normal, definitely, so have suffered from the squashing!

Moonface123 · 22/12/2021 11:21

The problem is that the pickers are in at 4.00 am, the night team are still trying to put stuff out on shelves, every isle is full of stock in cages, and the customers are coming in as well. It is an absolute nightmare trying to pick items for customers this time of year, as well as try to second guess subs, most of the time there isnt anything else to sub it for.

IamGusFring · 22/12/2021 11:21

No subs from Sainsbury's today .

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/12/2021 11:23

Mine comes tomorrow so we’ll wait and see. As long as any subs aren’t ridiculous I’m not getting uptight about it

U8976532 · 22/12/2021 11:25

No...out of a shop with 80+ items I've never had more than a few subs, it's much easier going into a supermarket with a basket grabbing the few bits than it is to do the full trolley shop!!

PatchworkElmer · 22/12/2021 11:27

8 subs, 3 unavailable from Tesco. I think the subs are mostly ok- we will return 1 of them. We also had 3 items unavailable (all of which we definitely need- vegan main and vegan dessert included 🤦🏻‍♀️) so will have to go to the shops after all.

FuckingFabulous · 22/12/2021 11:28

I had stupid subs! Instead of the extra large cauliflower I ordered, I had a single turnip. Instead of a tube of salt and vinegar Pringles, a bag of cinema sweet popcorn. Instead of a jar of duck fat, a jar of sour cream Doritos dip.

Pisses me right off!

vixeyann · 22/12/2021 11:29

4 good subs and one unavailable. I was pleasantly surprised!

Staryflight445 · 22/12/2021 11:32

Have Ocado coming tomorrow, really hoping I don’t have to get my husband to go shops.
We’re still daily LFTing due to positive covid household case and only did this online shop incase we literally can’t go get anything ourselves.

£10 for the delivery slot and a minimum of £90 spend, they better cough up what I’ve ordered.

diamondpony80 · 22/12/2021 11:36

5 good subs from Sainsbury’s, I was expecting worse to be honest

Sparkletastic · 22/12/2021 11:37

Only one missing (unimportant) item in my Waitrose delivery. Excellent service as always and I'm so glad I finally switched from Ocado.

I suppose it depends on when your shop is due to arrive - I wouldn't want to have to go back out to look for replacement items on Christmas Eve, but otherwise I think it's a lot less stressful to have to pop out for a small number of items than a whole shop . My main shop came Monday so I expect to have to pop out again before Christmas Day anyway .

Wilma55 · 22/12/2021 11:39

I ordered a Morrisons delivery (amazon prime) this morning to be delivered between 11 and 1. Had text to say they had started it and would let me know about substitutions. 5 minutes later they cancelled whole order, no explanation!

shinynewapple21 · 22/12/2021 11:40

@Staryflight445 £10 delivery charge from Ocado? I've never used them but is that normal ?

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/12/2021 11:41

I suppose the only gain from doing it yourself is you can choose your own swaps. All the missing items are not going to magically restock for me being in there in person. I am however much more likely to rack up a body count swinging a trolley round tesco at this time of year Xmas Angry

LindaEllen · 22/12/2021 11:41

@Halfarsedjingler

Not exactly a shock in the week before Christmas.
Doesn't mean it's not bloody annoying. What an absolutely stupid comment.
Hannahthepink · 22/12/2021 11:45

It depends what you were ordering tbh. I'm a picker, and it baffles me that some people leave it so late to try to get all of their Christmas essentials. This week, the focus for stock coming in is on short-life fresh produce, there is tons of this available, but if you're still ordering selection boxes and festive crisps then you're going to have a lot of substitutions! It's all been on sale since the start of September and there is hardly anything left now!

Well your delivery clearly came with a recipe suggestion...potatoes roasted in sour cream dorito dip BOAK!
