Guess I’m going to the shops after all. How has everyone else done?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/12/2021 12:50

Mine was delivered yesterday, with no substitutions.

Leftbutcameback · 22/12/2021 13:00

I did get a really good substitute- large Ferrero Rocher instead of the small box for the offer price!

shinynewapple21 · 22/12/2021 13:01

@LefttoherownDevizes Aldi click and collect ? I've not heard of that before , wonder if that's everywhere ? Will investigate!

Cocopogo · 22/12/2021 13:03

Only a couple of subs but a lot of food is dated before Xmas Xmas Hmm

shinynewapple21 · 22/12/2021 13:04

@Odoreida we've done that for things like mince pies, chocolate,
alcohol . We're actually booked to go out for Christmas lunch but I've got frozen Turkey breast, roasties and stuffing mix in just in case !

Odoreida · 22/12/2021 13:06

@shinynewapple21 have a shiny new apple for your excellent organisation skills. I have a private catering company (or I do when there isn't a pandemic) and you have to be really systematic with ordering

Bushkin · 22/12/2021 13:08

Sainsbury’s- 10 subs, mostly sensible
Couple of questionable ones…

Crispy onions - beef jerky
Turkey gravy - bisto

LOVE it when that happens. It should be a large one at Christmas after all!

Cookerhood · 22/12/2021 13:10

I logged in yesterday to change some things & as I checked out it said that things I had previously ordered where uavailable & would be removed from my basket (frozen pigs in blankets & party food for boxing day). I need to go in & change something again so I wonder what will happen then.

AD80 · 22/12/2021 13:10

Only one sub and it was crisps so non issue ☺️

Shergill15 · 22/12/2021 13:11

Asda yesterday evening. Couple of like for like subs. Only thing not available was Quality Street. Order included all the Christmas veg, Christmas pudding etc. Decent dates too. Pleasantly surprised and relieved!

Bushkin · 22/12/2021 13:11

Mine hasn’t actually assumed yet so hoping dates are ok

Beachhuts90 · 22/12/2021 13:12

We got a couple of good subs, like a bigger pack of smoked salmon than the one we ordered and paid for.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/12/2021 13:12

We’re not hosting, but had a big Asda shop yesterday - the only missing item was bread.

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/12/2021 13:14

I'm waiting to find out if I need to do a trolley dash tomorrow. That's why i never book an online shop for later than the 22nd. I don't want to be anywhere near a shop on Christmas Eve with the last minute stressheads swarming everywhere.

loopylindi · 22/12/2021 13:18

do posters really think that once they've placed their order it's picked and sits in a basket until delivery? I might have got the wrong end of the stick but that's the impression I get from some of these posts.

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 13:20

Subs are to be expected this time of year. They just go round the shop like any other shopper.

Wam90 · 22/12/2021 13:21

I was fully expecting this when I collected yesterday but thankfully only had like for like switches on 3 things. I did forget broccoli and milk though 🤦🏼‍♀️

loudbatperson · 22/12/2021 13:22

Ocado here. 3 subs. All very sensible. One (Pate) was actually my preferred brand which had showed as out of stock when ordering. Others were slightly bigger versions of what I ordered.

2 unavailable items, but neither vital, and one wasn't even needed anymore.

More subs and unavailable items than a normal week, but all the essentials and must haves were present and correct, and delivery was free so I am happy.

Cookerhood · 22/12/2021 13:22

Yup, another 6 things removed when I checked out again - mince pies, which were already a change, Christmas Day breakfast and various other things. I wonder what will actually turn up tomorrow. At least I have Christmas eve to get anything that I'm missing.

HandforthParishCouncil · 22/12/2021 13:24

Asda
Turkey crown unavailable. No sub offered.
Beef joint unavailable. No sub offered.

Sprouts - given a cabbage
Pancakes - given ice cream roll
Xmas pudding for 4 - given a 1 person gift boxed fruit cake
Baileys - given tia Maria Sad

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/12/2021 13:26

My subs were really good. I ordered two single portions of salmon, got two pack with a large piece of salmon in that is easily four portions.

The sausage meat was sort dated but I just made stuffing and froze it ready to cook.

VerbenaGirl · 22/12/2021 13:29

We had five subs, four fine (one a very similar product I was happy with, three two smaller sized in place of larger - better value in the end) and one sent back (but it wasn’t anything we needed for Christmas). I was braced for much worse. Having said that, due to crap quality veg from Tesco last year, I’ve had a delivery from a local greengrocer instead, and have turkey on order to pick up locally tomorrow. Plus I got everything like the Christmas pudding, stuffing, cranberry sauce weeks ago.

Yellow85 · 22/12/2021 13:33

If you’re braving Morrisons, make sure you remember your bags. Our local is out of carrier bags and folk are abandoning trolleys or having to individually loads their Xmas shopping into their boot! Total mayhem.

They had plenty of the £3 bag for lives, seen one woman spent almost £30 on bags to get her shopping home!

BasiliskStare · 22/12/2021 13:36

We had Ocado delivery pretty much delivered as ordered. but had to run round the corner to get "the bird" ( we did not order from Ocado ) - ended up with 2 ducks rather than a goose ( But I am secretly pleased as prefer duck to Goose or Turkey ) None of us like Christmas Pudding so DH's job to get a Mille Fleur instead.

But we will not starve. I also have candles from last year as I could not buy them for love nor money so overbought and they are in the sideboard. Cheap crackers at the ready & so all we need is cheese .

It is one day so I am happy. We have a small house and a small fridge freezer & DH said - have we forgotten anything - everything fits in - which is when I reminded him - there are only 3 of us - no guests this year . Grin
