Guess I’m going to the shops after all. How has everyone else done?

@shinynewapple21 their Christmas slots are £10 with £90 minimum spend. Their normal slots range in price, usually I pay around £2.99 or less as prefer late night deliveries anyway, there’s a £40 minimum spend on normal ones.

What I've never been able to understand is why Tesco can't let you know what's missing from your order in advance (like Sainsburys do) to give you a chance to decide what to hand back/what to keep instead of having to make rapid doorstep decisions? I've got an order coming today and it's about £14 light, and that's after I spotted some wine had gone out of stock whilst adding something else to the order so I removed the oos wine. Order isn't coming until 2-3 so I'll be off to lidl in the morning I guess!

Don't they email you? I've been getting an email recipt a couple of hours before than states what's been subbed and for what and what is missing.
BigWoollyJumpers · 22/12/2021 12:06

Waitrose delivery on Sunday was worst ever - driver gave me a discretionary £5 refund because so much was missing/subbed.

They couldn't deliver or sub: Cauliflower, Sprouts (ffs), Swede or Cabbage. Really...... no sprouts, at this time of year.....
No cheesy puffs - I bloody love cheesy puffs!
No fresh bread at all. No baguettes, or farmhouse. Nothing.
No paracetamol of any kind.

I popped down to the local petrol station which has a Little Waitrose, and got fresh bread, paracetamol, cheesy puffs. Ridiculous.

I will go to the local market on Friday and get my veg and fresh bread there instead.

tiredanddangerous · 22/12/2021 12:08

Had my tesco delivery this morning. Only sub was the bread.

TitsInAbsentia · 22/12/2021 12:09

@PatriotCanes what? No I never have. Off to check my junk mail....

Fl0w3ry · 22/12/2021 12:09

Morrisons - had 15 subs today but luckily no daft ones so not too much of a problem. I was glad that at least all of the main things I needed came.

Willowwarble · 22/12/2021 12:11

Very healthy Christmas from Asda, no crisps/snacks, chocolate, biscuits or cake.

LefttoherownDevizes · 22/12/2021 12:12

Aldi Click and Collect. Only thing missing mini marshmallows, other 6 subs completely fine (bacon for bacon, crackers for cheese for a selection box etc)

And payment failed as Nationwide and hasn't been able to move money in time so the order was still there just paid in store.

Seriously impressed with their click and collect, saved us a fortune moving from Ocado which has gone well done since they stopped selling Waitrose, and can't be doing with Sainsbury's not using bags

Odoreida · 22/12/2021 12:13

I definitely think you should all get your non-perishable items (crisps chocolate etc) a few weeks before Christmas then just do a fresh food order for this week, to lessen the unbearable pain. I know this is not helpful to hear now but PLEASE remember for next year.

WhatHaveIFound · 22/12/2021 12:19

9am delivery this moorning and only one sub here. The chicken breast that i'm cooking on Christmas Day was short dated but I accepted it anyway and have frozen it. Just need to remember to get it back out of the freezer!

CarrieMoonbeams · 22/12/2021 12:27

Got my Waitrose delivery this morning, no subs, everything good dates.

PriamFarrl · 22/12/2021 12:28
@Staryflight445 £10 delivery charge from Ocado? I've never used them but is that normal ?
Only for Christmas week.

londonmummy1966 · 22/12/2021 12:32

Waitrose yesterday - subs one was a free selection of cheese as they couldn't deliver the fancy pants cheese stack I'd been starting to regret anyway. One was baby carrots for rainbow ones. The only mildly irritating one was a glazed gammon instead of a plain one - I usually boil mine rather than roast it. First world problems.....

I take it you don't have teenage kids (or have lots of lockable storage). I have a small house, lots of people, sand have been buying non perishables since November. They have been eating them at the same speed I have been buying them
Bonkerz · 22/12/2021 12:33

Mines due tomorrow morning from Asda. I've been buying for weeks though. Meat all sorted in freezer and non perishable bits all done so tomorrow is veg and fruit and fiddly bits. If ur doesn't arrive it doesn't matter.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 22/12/2021 12:33

@Xtraincome

I decided not to book a delivery this year but will brave the 24 hour tesco tonight at a silly hour so I can take my time- not doing traditional Xmas Dinner though so may be OK. Last year, the subs were awful from Morrisons.
If it reassures you, they (well, ours) were quiet this morning at 4am...only us and a couple of other shoppers. We got everything we wanted and a few extras fell in the trolley Xmas Grin

DH called in at Morrisons at 10.30 and it was no busier than a normal week-day.

Starcaller · 22/12/2021 12:33

One sub with our Tesco shop: a chocolate Santa instead of a reindeer Grin

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 22/12/2021 12:36

I had 2 slots this week out of necessity. I can't get to the shops so it was regular food shop plus Christmas hamper gifts for family. Sound posh but it's presents on a budget. Think jars of sauce/pastes and other food cupboard bits and bobs. All the food was there but nearly ALL the Christmas tat like chocolate oranges and santas were missing. Fortunately I have a very laid back family.
Our Christmas celebration will be on Boxing Day and we're having a currySmile
I did order chippolatas and bacon and was very surprised to get them all!

GiltEdges · 22/12/2021 12:37

Just 1 sub from my Ocado order yesterday, which I was quite impressed with. Sadly it was my "backup" custard, which I always buy incase my own doesn't turn out after I'm frazzled from cooking the starter / main course. My local shop will probably have tinned Ambrosia custard I can buy between now and Christmas Day, but it won't be as nice as the one I'd ordered. First world problem!

StarfishDish · 22/12/2021 12:40

2 subs from Morrisons but very much like for like so can't complain. Thats the risk with online shopping unfortunately Xmas Smile

NoImAVeronica · 22/12/2021 12:47

9am Asda delivery this morning, two unavailable, six subs, returned three of them. As a PP said a very (stealthily) healthy Asda Christmas, no Quality Street, macarons or ice-cream.

And they subbed every single wax melt I'd ordered with a different and unknown scent - I just accepted those though as I felt weird about sniffing them with an audience... Xmas Blush

DontKeepTheFaith · 22/12/2021 12:48

Ocado, 3 sensible subs. Pork pie, Christmas cake and some sweet treats, all substituted for different of the same item.

It was a huge shop so I am really surprised, based on recent shops I was expecting carnage with loads of missing items or crap substitutions.

mogschristmascalamity · 22/12/2021 12:48

Three subs. Malteasers small bag instead of malteasers santas
Apple and blackcurrant squash instead of blackcurrant

And

2 different sizes of black bin bags instead of firelighters. We only have a fire for heating so will have yo head out to get some. Plus i forgot to order a vienetta.

Although we are away tomorrow until boxing day eve so everything ordered was just in case we had to stay home.

Leftbutcameback · 22/12/2021 12:49

A few subs but nothing too bad. Biggest issue on Monday delivery was the chicken dated 24/12. It went in the freezer straight away and will need to come out on Christmas Eve
