Thanks for the new thread! Just placemarking so I don't lose it!

Loved all the advice re prams/ car seats... a bit overwhelming, but hoping shops will reopen in the next few months to at least see them in person.

@PurplePansy05

I don't think I'll actually order anything big till after 20 wks but I would like to have a shortlist of items I think might be best to then try them out in the shops. It also helps me a lot to check the prices before to see how much of our savings we'll need to use.

I defo did this last time and it was a great idea. Meant I could totally indulge that shopping urge early on by researching and deciding. Then I made a shortlist and kept an eye out for deals/second hand offers/etc.

Good dates for sales are July - Amazon Prime day usually mid July, and summer sales where they try to clear out the stock for the new stuff that comes out in Autumn. Prob cutting it a bit fine for most of us though.

May bank holiday weekend often has sales on. Easter sometimes as well, but May might well be the big one to watch.

@LottSE20 welcome to the thread! If you want to add your details to the list just copy and paste it and insert yourself in :)

WRT the modular car seats that use one base for infant and then toddler seat later - all well and good, but worth thinking ahead as to whether you'd want to reuse the base for another baby later. If so you might not want it taken up by the toddler seat. Plus although it is easier to move a toddler seat from car to car like that, it's less easy than the infant seat still. Also, sometimes you can get a standalone seat for cheaper than the base! Shock Personally, I think the swivel on the Cybex Cloud Z (infant seat) is a bit of a gimmick and unnecessary, but I know a lot of people like it :) My reasoning is that almost all infant seats can click into bases and you don't need a swivel function to just place the seat in sideways and then turn it around so that it locks in! Useful if you want to leave the seat in the car, but then, I don't get why not just go for a fixed swivel seat? I might be missing a scenario where this would be useful!

Cybex car seats go on universal/Maxi Cosi adapters, usually the most common type of car seat adapters you can get.

@Winecoffeeteamum lovely scan!

I have just had an email that nursery will refund us totally for the two months they have been closed. WOOHOO! That will help a lot :)

Thanks for the new thread @BertieBotts!

We have the Joie spin 360 for DS (he’s 2 years 4 months) and it’s great! Thinking about getting him
A different one now though so the baby an use that one.

We will be reusing the pram we already have as we went for grey for that purpose. It’s a Vennici one, and I do really like it, however it’s SOOO heavy and bulky I wouldn’t recommend. When we brought it the first time around we didn’t really know what we were doing. I was thinking getting a double buggy but there’s no chance by DS would entertain one now, he’s too independent!

Today was the first day he went back to nursery after the positive test result, 4 hours of bliss! GrinWink

@ED81 I saw your NIPT question on the previous thread. I had it and so did @WolfMother326. I think I can probably say for both of us that we'd recommend it. It was so easy, just a vial of blood, results in under 2 weeks. Of course it can't exclude anything and everything, but in combination with the NHS scans in my view it gives you a decent idea at least in respect of the key risks, plus as a bonus you can find out the sex. I would choose to have it done in every pregnancy, a matter of personal choice. I'm 34 with 3 previous MCs and felt that knowledge is power and that it would help me get through the most difficult weeks especially. At 39 I definitely would consider it. If you have any questions, fire away xx

Hi ladies not sure if we’re still using the old thread?

Just had my scan. All good. Had to go semi empty bladder 3 times abs then baby was comfy on back so they sent me away for a 20 minute walk and do hip rotations so that baby can change position 🤣🤣🤣

Anyways @PurplePansy05 finally you can add me on the list. EDD 22nd August and it’s a surprise 💛

Thanks for starting this new thread!

@ED81 I second @PurplePansy05 in saying I would recommend the NIPT test. I had it done before the combined test because I was so nervous about getting a high risk result due to age (37). It put my DH and I at ease, and I still had the nuchal translucency test which was all clear. Happy to answer any questions - I had the Harmony test and thought it was fab.

Also, backing up a few pages to the last thread on sexy time: I have to admit that we have not had 'normal' old fashioned sex since week 7, when my cervix must have been sensitive and the result was some bleeding and 2 days of pain. I've been scared to try again, but I talked to my midwife and she said it would hopefully be better now at 14w and there was no risk to the baby even if the bleeding/pain happened again - but it was unpleasant for me in any case. Has anyone experienced this and had it improve? I don't think we can go a whole 6 more months without doing it Confused

The old thread will lock and stop accepting posts once it gets to 1000, so easiest just to copy and paste anything you want to reply to and put it here as a fake quote with stars like this for example. :)

I am working on a blog post about good spin seats to use from newborn so when it's finished I'll share it here :) I've only just started the blog so haven't really publicised it at all yet.

Love that there’s so many of us lovely ladies! So happy to be sharing this journey with people as last time I felt rather alone.

I don’t I don’t post that much with having a toddler in the day and working nights but I am still here. Smile

Re telling work, I told them around the 11 week mark and now most of my colleges know too. Everyone has been so lovely about it. Has anyone thought when they want to start maternity leave? Is it too early to think about that?! Aha Halo

Last time I worked up until about 4 days before DS arrived as he was early so I want a bit more time before this one comes to relax! How much relaxing i will get with a toddler I don’t know but it would be nice to go to bed at a sensible time and not to be at work!

It’s funny you say that @Magik01 as only a few minutes ago I was looking at dates on the calendar on my laptop, not that I’m counting down at all! I will find out more when I meet with the consultant but I have been advised previously that I’m likely to be induced at around 38 weeks, so I’m thinking of finishing just before that then taking a few weeks annual leave before. I’ve got so much leave this year as we didn’t get away anywhere last year and we were allowed to carry over more than usual.

BertieBotts · 16/02/2021 14:19

Oh sorry, that was probably my fault, I just grabbed the last one from the last thread.

I think youtube reviews work so much better when you have the actual product on hand! I could do it for the two (soon to be three I suppose) car seats that we have, but there are already sooo many Joie 360 reviews out there I probably wouldn't bother with that. I might do one for the Aton 5 though but it might end up being a bit negative :o maybe I'll film some bits with the new baby in it just to show some of the features/issues for a newborn and then I can make a proper video when they are a bit older to show the difference with an older baby? I always think these things are missing from reviews.

When I was working at the baby shop I don't think I would have been allowed to film myself with their seats and I'm not working there now anyway as I was signed off due to pregnancy.

@BertieBotts can't wait for the blog, you're a wealth of information! I've learned so much, it's so helpful, and much less overwhelming than having to wade through everything on google!

@Magik01 good question about maternity leave! My work is tied fairly closely to school terms (though not a teacher), so I think I'll probably work until the end of summer term then go off as I'll be about 38 weeks then which seems like a good time (might use annual leave until the due date though as I think they like for you to use as much up as possible before going off). Advice from anyone more experienced much appreciated though!

Also a wonder, I'm hoping to go back part time after mat leave - does anyone know the right time to ask work about this? Is it the type of thing to do sooner rather than later, or wait until baby is here?
