@Whatshouldbemyusername I think it really depends on where you live yes. A couple of my friends are local who were pregnant but they both had different experiences too x

ame88 · 17/02/2021 08:12

Hey ladies! Amazing seeing a new thread, thanks for sorting @BertieBotts
FINALLY have my dating scan in the morning! Can't wait to finally have my due date confirmed!
Once results come back from the screening I feel like I can relax a bit and start planning!
I really want something for the baby to nap in during the day downstairs so have been looking at options for that! Any ideas welcome!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 17/02/2021 08:16

@lucyrp yes I think that’s what it is x

@ame88 oooh exciting. It’s going to be amazing! Enjoy the experience. For baby I am looking at co-sleeping cribs for night time and for day time just a simple Moses basket which I can keep with me in the living room.

Also I ordered the bbhugme last night. Splurged. But bought it from www.scandiborn.co.uk/ and they not only have 10% off but also throw in an extra sleeve if anyone wants to look. It gets delivered tomorrow. Am hoping this really improves my quality of sleep somehow!x

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 08:16

@ame88 if you have hard floors which are easily cleaned using the pram with carry cot downstairs is ideal. But also I was looking at the snuzpod as a crib which you can carry downstairs really easily and is light. Comes in two pieces the bassinet and the stand so easily transferable. I have w crib already from DS but my friend is letting me borrow her snuzpod which I'll use downstairs as mine is carpeted. Also if you've seen sleepyheads they're just as good to use straight on the floor x

RunnerGirl123 · 17/02/2021 08:16

My 16 week is a telephone appointment too. But if I was with the midwives at my old gp, I think it would be in person. I think it's all about what each trust is doing, and what resources they have available. It would be better if mine was in person as I changed gp between booking in and my scan so they'd be able to see my notes and history but it is what it is!

Alittlexmasmagic · 17/02/2021 08:28

@ame88 I was given a travel cot which I set up downstairs for naps. As we were moving out I wanted to avoid having lots of "stuff". The travel cot was easy to pack away and he was still using it well over a year later when staying at his grandmas x

BertieBotts · 17/02/2021 08:45

Yep we used carrycot from pram last time. Then when he got too big for that a playpen that you could set up with the base high like a cot. Then we just switched to his actual cot in his room.

I had a bouncy chair for DC1 but the one we had for DC2 was a bit too steep and he didn't seem comfy or safe.

The baby Björn bouncer is amazing but pricey! I always keep an eye out on marketplace but haven't managed yet.

@Whatshouldbemyusername thank you so much! I’ve got a big birthday coming up beginning of March and have asked for the bbhugme so I will tell DH about the offer now! Do you know what the 10% code is and is the free sleeve the same colour as the one you order? Thank you again!

MrsB2019x · 17/02/2021 08:56

@lucyrp They have 20% off when you spend over £75, the changing bag I got was £75 so it took it down to £60 😁 I haven’t had to arrange my own 16 week appointment, it was booked at my booking appointment Confused The midwifery service in your area don’t seem to know their head from their arse, you’ve had so many issues 😔

@Alittlexmasmagic Mine makes an appearance first thing in the morning? Which doesn’t make any sense 😂

@ame88 I’m thinking that I’ll just use the carrycot from the pram downstairs for daytime naps, saves more space!

ame88 · 17/02/2021 08:59

I want something off the floor as I have a dog Smile
I'm thinking about beside crib sort of thing! I think I will get 2 if I can find a cheaper one for downstairs or even a Moses basket!

ame88 · 17/02/2021 09:02

One thing I think to be aware of is how long these things last too - if you have a big baby some of them will only last a few weeks!

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 09:03

@MrsB2019x ooo that's good I'll take a look! Yeah I don't get anything booked at my booking appointment here we have our booking appointment then have to wait for a scan appointment in the post, and then have to arrange your own 16 week appointment which they don't tell you and wait for a 20 week scan appointment in the post too. Its a good job this is my second or is it maybe if it was my first I wouldn't know any different 🙈 yeah honestly so unorganised but I know its difficult atm but does take the biscuit a little bit. When I ring today to book my 16 week il probbaly have to leave a voicemail which doesn't bode well as last time I did that they never rang back so 😂x

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 09:04

@ame88 that's why I mentioned the pram with the carrycot as you can have that set up stationary with the brake on, or the snuzpod which is a bedside crib/ Moses basket. X

Whatshouldbemyusername · 17/02/2021 09:16

@Magik01 oh what a nice birthday gift! The code is BBHUGME10 and to be honest I’m not sure about the sleeve. I assume it will be the same colour. I wasn’t too bothered as I was like an extra sleeve wow! Coz the sleeve itself costs over £38 atleast. Also they didn’t have too many in stock last night. I got the dark blue one as they only had that and the grey one left. Want to use it in the bedroom as a nursing pillow too once baby is here so I got the dark colour just in case x

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 09:22

Argh rubbish at keeping up with you guys!

Got stuff still from DD and getting some other bits in too when I see a bargain, some how got a Snoo crib, another car seat and rocker for £300, the Snoo is normally a grand new and £600 used

biscuitcat · 17/02/2021 09:29

Oh @lucyrp what a nightmare! My 16 week appointment just arrived by letter (though I'll be closer to 18 weeks, which hopefully is OK), but I have to sort my own 25 week appointment as I'm booked into an out of area hospital for birth, and the 25 week appt is with a separate team of community midwives. My 20 week scan booking was brilliant though, they just booked the date at my 12 week scan!

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 09:40

@biscuitcat hopefully when I swap over to the other birth centre it will be better. They've told me I'm going to be with one of the new midwives who's starting and I asked w friend if she knows who she is as I know her name and I think it's actually one of the midwives that looked after me in hospital after DS so that should be nice 🥰

wimbler · 17/02/2021 09:41

@olderthanyouthink £300 for a snoo is incredible!!! where did you find that deal?!

We have a snuz pod from #1 which we will reuse for #2. I never ended up taking the top off and carrying it downstairs as our stairs are so steep and narrow that it was just too scary. It's also really bulky and heavy. We used a sleepyhead (now called dockatot) downstairs during the day and she actually slept in it overnight in the snuz pod. They were cited as safe for overnight sleeping when she was born but they're not now.
We are going to borrow a moses basket for downstairs for #2 - need something to keep baby from the prying hands of a toddler I think!

With using the carrycot if you want it off the ground, you could try a moses basket stand. I think a carrycot would fit on one and you can get rocking ones which can help baby sleep.

Second the baby bjorn bouncer! We borrowed one for #1 and it was one of our most used items. hoping to borrow again but if not will buy second hand.

I've got the bbhugme and it is sooooo comfy. so glad I splurged on it

Whatshouldbemyusername · 17/02/2021 09:55

@wimbler thanks to you I actually got it! X

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 10:00

@wimbler Facebook! I think it was over £1500 worth of stuff for £300, SIL picked it up for me and she said she was trying to offload clothes on them too Confused

I actually wanted to grab a cheapish second hand car seat because we want to get a cargo bike (bicycle with a big box on the front for carrying children and stuff) and would prefer a lie flat car seat for that. The Bugaboo turtle that we just go is nice though, feels more luxurious that the MC Cabriofix and the built in sunshade is V nice. Might sell the bugaboo car seat to find getting a Cybex Cloud

We had/have a chicco next to me and I really didn't like the bar between me and baby, I couldn't lie a bit in with DD to feed her to sleep in it. If we really want a bedside crib again I'll get something like a snuzpod or babybay

PurplePansy05 · 17/02/2021 12:01

@lucyrp That snuzpod looks really good, I'm definitely going for something like this for our bedroom. Hoping to use either that or the carrycot during the day. Uppababy has a great stand for the carrycot, so if I go with this pram that could be an option. Personally, I think whatever I will use in the day needs to be light and easy to carry - I don't mind two separate pieces if they are lighter and smaller as a result. Like some of you, we have a dog too (and cats) and we need something higher up. I'll also get a bouncer to take my son with me to the toilet, he's in for so much fun 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

I have my 16 week appt face to face next week with my MW. I had to book it myself via my GP.

Interesting fact of the day, in the last couple of days I had 3 bump farts. Not bum! Bump 😂 Party trick right there. I googled it and apparently it's the amniotic fluid and baby moving making these noises! I hope so and can't wait to feel him move 💙😍 xx

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 12:11

@PurplePansy05 my friend who's said I can borrow hers has said it's been brilliant for her and the next to bed function looks really good too. I may use that upstairs and downstairs as the crib I have is a wooden rocking one which I had for DS but is quite small so they may grow out of it quite quickly. Yeah we have a kitten who I got when we nearly gave up ttc at the year mark so she'll only be just over a year old when baby is born so very likely to be inquisitive! I used to strap DS in to his bouncer in the bathroom when I showered etc and as he got older his jumperoo type thing! X

I rang midwife this morning and they answered for the first time ever but someone had ran off with the diary apparently so someone is supposed to ring me back today to book my 16 week so will see if that happens...

I've had a few weird popping things like that and my stomach seems to feel different when I'm hungry now like I'm not hungry but the baby is 🤣

LyraShaeLilly · 17/02/2021 12:19

I am thinking of buying a snuz pod also, just have a few questions, Im a bit sceptical about the mesh sides as baby can learn to roll before 6 months so it is safe? Also what if my duvet cover accidentally falls into the snuz pod while sleeping? Are these all hypothetical worries? I know it makes sense having baby sleep next to you but I can't work out how it logistically works? Also the sides of pod are detachable so even more flimsy for when baby can roll? Also scared baby will fall between gap of pod and bed while I'm asleep? As I don't like the idea of it being attaches to bed because how will mum get in and out of the bed?
