Yeah that's it, something pops in there @lucyrp, a bit like a water bubble, but mine sounds more like a small fart I think 😂 Classy.

I have a kitten too, she'll be 13 months when my son is born. She's the most loving and cuddly little thing which is lush, but I'll have to watch her carefully so she doesn't unintentionally snuggle up on the baby's chest or too close to his face. She's been my ray of light after the miscarriages, we lost our beloved cat after my first loss and honestly I was inconsolable then. Luckily, our kitten is growing up to be just as gorgeous as the super cat we lost ❤ My other cat is a smug princess and I suspect she won't give a shit about the baby, much like she doesn't care about us 😂 She only loves the dog 😂 I have been looking at the netting that might protect from cats jumping in to the crib but not sure we will actually need it or how effective it is. I'll just have to be forever alert and carry my boy with me everywhere I think easier said than done. Are the sides of this crib safe, ie they won't accidentally open and the baby won't fall out of it? I'm probably paranoid! xx

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 12:31

@PurplePansy05 I think for the snuzpod there is only one side that can come down and I think it works via a pocket in the side where there is a rod that clips into place at the top of the crib but when you take it down you slip the rod out and there are straps provided to adjoin to your bed and there are a couple of different height settings to match your bed.
On the kitten note I'm so glad we got her as she kept me busy with something to love while I thought we'd never get pregnant. My friend has been around a few times with her little boy who's 7 months now so she's seen him as a baby etc and didn't really take much notice so I'm sure she'll be fine 😂 and poor Luna (my kitten) puts up with my 5 year old lugging her around and annoying her.

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 12:35

@LyraShaeLilly you don't have to adjoin it to the bed if you don't want to. It can be used as a stand alone. It's just a very lovely looking crib anyway which I think is the main reason most people go for it. I personally was never a fan of Moses baskets for over night as they seem very flimsy to me ! X

wimbler · 17/02/2021 12:37

@LyraShaeLilly

I am thinking of buying a snuz pod also, just have a few questions, Im a bit sceptical about the mesh sides as baby can learn to roll before 6 months so it is safe? Also what if my duvet cover accidentally falls into the snuz pod while sleeping? Are these all hypothetical worries? I know it makes sense having baby sleep next to you but I can't work out how it logistically works? Also the sides of pod are detachable so even more flimsy for when baby can roll? Also scared baby will fall between gap of pod and bed while I'm asleep? As I don't like the idea of it being attaches to bed because how will mum get in and out of the bed?
the snuz pod passes all the safety tests. The newest snuz pod (snuzpod4) actually has a lip on the side so it's mattress is lower than the edge. I doubt a baby would be able to roll out and as the sides zip up, a baby rolling against them would never cause them to fall down if you see what I mean. mine is the older style and I had the side down all the time in between the bed and never had an issue but it unzips really easily so if you are worried you can just unzip for feeds then zip back up and baby is very safe.
PurplePansy05 · 17/02/2021 13:00

The designers of these things are so clever, aren't they. I'd love to be talented enough to have this kind of job. xx

Magik01 · 17/02/2021 13:32

@Whatshouldbemyusername ahh thank you so much, I’ve forwarded it onto the DH in the hope he takes the hint 😂

I’ve had a letter through from my hospital for a “scheduled midwife episode clinic appointment”. I will be 18 weeks, any idea what this could be?! It’s not my 16 week appointment as that’s next week with my midwife face to face. I’m consultant led so I’m thinking something to do with that? Hmm

Alittlexmasmagic · 17/02/2021 13:37

@LyraShaeLilly we had the Next to me with DS which I'll reuse. They are great standalone, which I used initially as climbing out of bed post C-Section was hard. Then they are physically strapped to the bed. The level is adjusted so there's no gap or height difference between their mattress and yours. 3 sides are solid and the other zips down, rolls and creates a lip baby can't roll over.
I did worry about the duvet but as the crib was so high up the bed to be level with my reach, there wasn't a lot of duvet to fall in them if that makes sense. It was also held back by the remaking sides of the crib.
Yes, once attached the shuffle down the bed to get around the crib and off the bed is annoying but being able to lie there level with their sleeping face is just heaven x

BertieBotts · 17/02/2021 14:04

I had a converted normal cot for co-sleeping with DS1 and a specially built one for DS2 but I hated it as the mattress was so crap, massive gaps and felt unsafe. We're going to buy another ikea one and convert it.

Never had a duvet issue, but I did mostly keep the duvet tucked behind me or down to my waist.

It is a pain to get into bed when you have one! Depending on how long it is, you should have a bit of bed at the end to get into and then you just crawl into place.

Or get in DH's side and roll across. Or get in from the foot end.

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 15:05

@LyraShaeLilly you're supposed to stop using the snuzpod when baby can roll themselves over, same with other fabric sided bassinets. I think DD could sort of roll on to her front from her side (breastfeeding in bed) from a few weeks but not actually back to front till 5 months... she was in our bed at this point anyway

When she was in our bed I just pinned my side of the duvet down so I couldn't pull it over her in my sleep.

You scooch down the end to get out of bed around the crib. It's supposed to be attached to your bed and the side it think goes in your bed so there shouldn't be a gap.

I also think the latest snuzpods aren't completely flush with the adult bed so it's not so easy for baby to end up in you bed but I handed this about our next to me

LyraShaeLilly · 17/02/2021 15:14

Ok thanks guys, so if baby is super developed and can roll at say 4months they should go in their usual cot in own room as is there bedside cot for this purpose? normal cot won't fit in our room?

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 15:21

The guidelines here are 6 months and in the US it's now been moved to 12 months for SIDS prevention. Up to you of course but also 4 months is a rough time for sleep I'd not want to be going to another room many times a night.

Can get mini cots to save space? Or set up a bed in their room for you too?

WatermelonKisses · 17/02/2021 15:30

@LyraShaeLilly once the baby can roll, you can just put the side of the bedside crib up. It's optional to have one side down, not a permanent feature.

We had the Chico next to me and will use that again next time. As soon as my girl could roll at 4 months, we just put the side up and she stayed in there till about 6.5 months.

LyraShaeLilly · 17/02/2021 15:34

@WatermelonKisses

Thanks makes sence, I was thinking the mesh sides even when up wouldn't support a baby rolling. Can't wait for the shops to open, this is why you need to go to the shops to actually look at products!!!

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 15:43

DS went into his cot when he was about 6 months but we moved the cot into our room. He then didn't go into his own room until he was 2.5 which he went straight into a single bed

WatermelonKisses · 17/02/2021 15:51

@LyraShaeLilly I know what you mean but it's breathable material so fine. It still used to freak me out when she would go right up close to the side! My daughter rolled at 4 months but wasn't much of a roller at night until she went into her full size cot where we still find her in all sorts of positions!

Smallbean27 · 17/02/2021 17:44

Sooo much to consider! Good to hear different experiences and opinions Smile

Smurf123 · 17/02/2021 18:12

With ds we had a moses basket (which we will use again this time - it's from when all my dad's family were kids) then when he was too big for it about 4 months or so as he was really long we moved him into a travel cot with proper mattress in our room as his cotbed wouldn't fit in our room

PurplePansy05 · 17/02/2021 18:26

@olderthanyouthink I didn't know the advice in the US is now 12 months. I understood that the risk of SIDS drops significantly after the first 6 months, is there any new research that says to wait till 12? I am quite hot on that admittedly and following all the guidelines as this is one of the things that really freaks me out, I'm sure it's a concern to us all xx

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 18:37

I must admit that I co slept for quite a while not on purpose with DS and used bumpers on the crib so I'm not the best person to talk about guidelines 🙈 when breast feeding co sleeping tends to just happen. I'm sure my OH used to just put DS on my boob and I was still sleeping. I don't really wake up to small sounds only when he was full on screaming 🙈

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 18:45

@PurplePansy05 I can't find an AAP page my brain can handle (bad headache) but this is an Australian one that says 6 to 12 rednose.org.au/article/room-sharing-with-baby

ame88 · 17/02/2021 18:45
@ame88 that's why I mentioned the pram with the carrycot as you can have that set up stationary with the brake on, or the snuzpod which is a bedside crib/ Moses basket. X
Omg of course I was thinking the carry cot on the floor not in the pram 🙄 I swear I have baby brain already

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 18:48

@lucyrp I gave up quickly on the crib and just bedshared as safely as I could. I slept really lightly with DD in with be except for when DP put her in with me when I was asleep, turned out for me that was a bit dangerous because I didn't know she was there at all and wasn't so still and didn't wake when she cried Shock

PurplePansy05 · 17/02/2021 18:49

Yes, CDC website also says 6-12 months but gives no explanation. Whereas in the UK the message is 90% of all SIDS cases occur within the first 6 months, so I'm still none the wiser about where 12 months comes from.

lucyrp · 17/02/2021 18:56

@ame88 don't worry! Definitely an excuse. I've been using it as one already 🤣

I also seem to have gone into this weird "nesting" almost with doctors, opticians, dentist appointments that need sorting. And any other phone calls. I've spent the last 2 days pretty much on the phone all day to different people sorting different appointments and utility bills etc 😂😭

@olderthanyouthink I'm quite a heavy sleeper but we had a king size bed so wasn't too much of a worry and we never had the duvet all the way up etc. I think you can say what you want before baby is here but some things do tend to just happen. Like I always said no dummies but one night I had a curry and was BF and DS just wouldn't settle so we had a midnight trip to tesco for dummies which shut him up 😂

olderthanyouthink · 17/02/2021 19:02

@lucyrp definitely pre baby ideas are wonderful, shame the actual baby doesn't like them and can't be reasoned with for years Sad
