Ahhh the list is looking so good now!

Congrats on your scan @Whatshouldbemyusername 🥰

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 15:03

@Magik01 I'm planning to work till I'm 38 weeks too, depending on how everything goes, so end of July.

@biscuitcat I think a lot of it depends on your workplace and the relationship you have. I will hold fire with any flexi request post mat leave till he's actually here and I learn what he needs and what works best for us. You are legally entitled to make one flexi working request per 12 months so I want to make sure I have it well thought out. I'm sure many industries these days will be far more flexible than before anyway and these requests certainly won't be unusual after over a year of wfh and juggling childcare and homeschooling! They may well not be rigid about the number of requests and changes to them, but no doubt this will depend on the sector, individual role and employer. I have an added consideration of potentially going to a new job after leave, so I'd be going FT and my DH would potentially cut his hours or condense them. We don't know yet. I'll be talking with my employer no earlier than 3 months into my leave, possibly later. Check your policies, but usually you need to discuss your return date at least 8 weeks in advance, maybe the right time for a flexi request will be then? Or maybe earlier, if you feel ready and you think it might benefit you to have everything agreed more in advance?

@BertieBotts I'm all for videos, I'm visual and far better at understanding and learning things if I can see them! Videos help with relaying more useful content quicker IMO, too. xx

@Wolfmother326 Re sex, I think DH and I might have a gentle go at it, or at least do stuff, IYSWIM. I am looking at this calendar and think I'll go mad with no action for nearly another 6 months! I feel like a teenager being introduced to the world of sex again 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

lucyrp · 16/02/2021 15:21

@WolfMother326 sex was totally unpleasant for me in the first few weeks but we kept doing it in the wrong position. We were doing doggy stule but t seems much better in missionary or with you in control as you can adjust etc.

@Magik01 the same week I told my boss she sent me a huge email asking when would I like my maternity leave to start and I explained that's why I'd booked two weeks holiday at the start of august and would like my mat leave to start at the end of my holiday 😂 I worked up until the day before DS was born and he was 10 days early. Hoping for similar this time but who knows 🙈

WolfMother326 · 16/02/2021 15:26

Thanks @lucyrp - different positions are a good idea and we should try that. @PurplePansy05 give it a go! we have been 'doing stuff', just not the normal deed. Otherwise I think we both would have gone crazy by now!

RunnerGirl123 · 16/02/2021 15:40

Re mat leave, my company's holiday year runs August to July so I've already been looking at it. I want to finish work at 38 weeks and take 2 weeks annual leave before mat leave starts but i need permission from hr that I can do this using 1 week of this year's entitlement at the beginning of next year. I think it's good to start thinking about it know, but no need to solidify dates until you absolutely need to.

Re sex, we've done it 3 times since 11 weeks... it's just about communicating what's working for you and what isn't lol it feels a bit weird for me, but not "not enjoyable". I wanted to do it before the dating scan so if we did have any spotting or blood then we could check things out at the scan 🙈. It's been fine each time but the worry will always be there i think! I had spotting at 5 weeks, so i was sure I'd get some after sex, but apparently not!!

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 16:10

@Magik01 I just reread your post, how do you cope with a toddler in the day, pregnant and working night? Women are superheroes, I swear! 🙌 xx

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 16:39

@ED81 Wrong thread again 😉 I've copied your questions below:

Do you have bloods aswell as a scan as part of the test?

I did. I had a reassurance scan before blood samples being taken. However, mine was at 10+6, I can't comment on how it's done in the second trimester. You need to contact the clinic and enquire what's included in the package.

Does it give a negative/positive result or is it in the sense of a low, medium, high risk?

It gives a 1/...... result which is interpreted as low or high risk. You need to research what test checks against what conditions and how likely they are to identify high risk. This is not a diagnostic test so will not give you a 100% answer, such as amniocentesis. But if it comes back with low result against a certain condition, its accuracy rates are very high. They vary between the tests, but they are the best non-invasive tests available. I had Panorama.

Also at what stage in your opinion is best to have the test?

There is no best time really. It can be done from 9 weeks onwards and will give you a result within 2 weeks. I had it done to roughly coincide with my 12 week scan. How far along are you now?

What is the main thing you are trying to get out of this? This might help answer your question about the timing.

Alittlexmasmagic · 16/02/2021 16:40

@lucyrp I finished 2weeks early and he was 2 weeks late. I was bored silly in the hottest summer ever! This one better arrive punctually and efficiently 😂

If we're still working from home, I plan on working as late as possible, then can carry all my annual leave over. If we're back in the office, I'll likely finish a week or so early using AL x

ED81 · 16/02/2021 16:41

Silly me! I understand now. Even Mumsnet is new to me. Ha.

@PurplePansy05 and @WolfMother326
thanks for your replies. It's really helpful.

Questions questions!

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 16:44

@ED81 I've responded to your questions above 😊

ED81 · 16/02/2021 16:53

@PurplePansy05. Thank you! I've no idea how to use this site. Which I'm sure is very evident. Wink

Thanks for all your information re nipt - it's incredibly kind. I'm just brand new in my journey. Only 5 weeks and tested positive just yesterday. My head is going a hundred miles an hour due to my age and the complications that can go along side that.

I live in Scotland so will have a search to see what is available. Thanks again. Smile

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 16:59

@ED81 You might want to have a look on MN at the threads with ladies due in Oct 2021 (I assume it would be Oct for you?). This is because they'll likely be at the same stage of pregnancy as you and the topics discussed will be more relevant. I found it incredibly helpful to have women at the same stage around xx

ED81 · 16/02/2021 17:03

Yes, I'm in that group already. Thank you so much for all your help.

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 17:04

@ED81 Here is the link to the chat for ladies due in October: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/birth_clubs/4143820-October-2021

It is a bit daunting/confusing to use this site when you're new! Obviously feel free to ask if you have any questions, we're a friendly bunch on here 😄 All the best for the rest of your pregnancy, deep breaths and congratulations! 💐 xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/02/2021 17:16

@MrsB2019x thanks darling. Feel so relieved ♥️

Magik01 · 16/02/2021 17:34

@PurplePansy05 aww thank you for your kind words!! Honestly it’s not what I’d like to do but it works for our family dynamic at the minute! It means DH works in the day and when he comes in, we have roughly an hour before I’m out the house! Confused. I’m only contracted four shifts though so not a full week! And I am part time so don’t do full time hours- I work till 12:30am. Smile

DS does do nursery on a Tuesday morning until 12 and all day Thursday to give me some ‘me time’ as I obviously don’t have that when he goes to bed!

Re maternity leave, it totally depends if they want to induce me early again like before, if that is the case I want some time before hand lol!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/02/2021 17:35

Ladies is anyone going to book a maternity photo shoot?x

I want to do it. Just depends on covid situation. Having said that most of them do the shoots week 32-34 so I think that takes me to July - surely it should be safe by then right 🤞🏽

LyraShaeLilly · 16/02/2021 17:52

@BertieBotts

Eagerly awaiting your blog,

I think I will take Mat leave at 38 weeks and use 3 weeks of my accumulated A/L before then, I'm in NHS which is 70% women so they are very flexible when it comes to returning from Mat leave, will hopefully be doing 3 days and when mortgage is low enough DH will do 4 days!!
I am very lucky to work in a women centred environment.

I'm getting a bit worried about these genetic tests now, have decided that we will have them for piece of mind but whatever happens we can deal with.

MrsB2019x · 16/02/2021 18:04

@Whatshouldbemyusername I don’t think I will, don’t think I’d be very comfortable in front of the camera by myself! I’d love to do a newborn shoot though. I wanted my wedding photographer to do them as she does babies too but she has rudely got pregnant at the same time and due at the beginning of September so I imagine she’ll be off! 🙄😂

Fran919 · 16/02/2021 18:10

Hi ladies,

Can I please join? I’ve been lurking in the background for some time but finally plucked up the courage to join, the support it’s provided has been immense so thank you! My EDD is 25/08, NHS scan last week was good, slight bleeding over the weekend which caused a massive panic but had a prearranged NIPT today and everything seems good - just waiting on the results from both though not going to find out the gender.

When did everyone’s sickness go / ease? The last two / three weeks has been pretty bad. Thanks

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/02/2021 18:23

@MrsB2019x aaaw. I understand. I want to do one with my partner and then a newborn shoot for sure later. lol about your wedding photographer. How dare she 🤣x

@Fran919 welcome and congratulations! My pregnancy sickness eased off mostly week 10/11. I had a day last week I think but that was it. Now it’s mainly just a few cramps that come and go and the lovely ladies on this group have told me that could be ligament pain due to stretching of the uterus x

LottSE20 · 16/02/2021 18:25

@Fran919 welcome! I had two bouts of bleeding earlier on and I was terrified - still not sure what caused it.

My sickness is still pretty bad at 13 weeks, in fact I’ve progressed to throwing up having mainly had nausea to date. Wishing it would end!

I think I’m going to finish work about 3 weeks before my due date, using leave. I’ve heard too many stories of ladies leaving it late and then the baby coming early!

I’m now wondering if I should have got NIPT. What does it tell you that the nuchal scan and bloods don’t?

Fran919 · 16/02/2021 18:42

Thank you both @Whatshouldbemyusername @LottSE20!

Good to know about the sickness, I’ll be 13w tomorrow and still throwing up, similar to you lottse20! It’s progressed from nausea fingers crossed it eases.

We’ve personally chose the SAFE NIPT for additional peace of mind, it has a slightly higher accuracy rate than the NHS, though it’s just high / low rather than ratio I think - also my nhs trust weren’t allowing partners at the time to scans so that swayed the decision as they have to scan too so had that booked but then the NHS guidance changed!

diamante11 · 16/02/2021 18:47

Hello everyone,

Thank you for making a new thread. We got the results of our harmony test today and everything is perfect, I'm so relieved, we had our 12 week scan too and our official due date is 29th August and we're having a.....GIRL 💖💖
