So re NCT classes, we did them last time round as the NHS ones near us were held during weekdays, not really helpful, even if I could get the time off, I wanted DH there too. We did an intensive weekend course, worth asking if they do them near you.

It is helpful to meet new people due at the same time, although you can just join the NCT for a lot less and there are regular coffee meet ups etc. Also think if you are on a low income I think they do give you discounts on the course fees...

Got my 20wk scan on 25th Jan, but after my midwife appointment on 27/12, I don't have to go back til mid feb (7 weeks!) that feels like a long wait, is that normal?

In other news I got my pram today! So pleased with it and can't fault mamas and papas CS (after hearing bad reports).

The NHS does an intensive weekend course here, Dontmind. I'll definitely do that one. Certainly not paying for an NCT course.

I see the midwife after my 20 week scan and then definitely at 28 weeks. Can't remember if there's an appointment in between. I'll look at my green book.

I'm wondering whether to ask for a c section. Would be nice to book in at 38 weeks...I could leave work 2 weeks earlier then! :-)

Very exciting for you already having date for baby arriving!!!
I have appt with consultant for the week after 20 wk scan to discuss a few issues from last time around. DH is very keen for me to have c section- not for him but for me. Think he doesn't want to see a repeat of last time. We'll see what consultant says although I have heard that around here they really try to talk you out of them- probably due to cost to Nhs!!! I did have to pay to have nt scan remember!

AmI thank you for support on AND, I have a suspicion thats where I'm heading, if I didn't have to get DD breakfast then I wouldn't get out of bed, everything is too much trouble, I'm permanently completely exhausted but then cannot sleep. Haven't accepted bump at all and just feel lardy, in no hurry to tell anyone at all and only DD and DH make me smile

Is it possible to get an elective section just by asking?? Or do you have to be recommended to have one by a consultant based on previous history? I'm a first timer so not sure! X

It changed recently so you can ask for a section if you want one. Think they will potentially try to discourage you though, but not sure.

We've signed up for NCT, and I just got the last place on a pregnancy yoga course (6 weeks) which is as much to do with the social side as the exercise! Not sure how applicable NCT will be to us with twins but wanted to meet people.

I am wide awake and have been for over an hour, which is really frustrating - going to be shattered at work. Even finishing my chocolate orange and Bio Oiling my bump hasn't sent me off!

Whaaaat, I go on holiday for one day, everyone is chatting away and we're on a new thread! Reading discussions on maternity leave reminds me of one thing I miss about england. Here I get 12 weeks (generous by american standards) and so if you take any time off before the baby is born that is less time with the baby after. With ds I worked in the morning till going in to the doctor to be induced then went into hospital that night. Anyway, no point worrying about as this baby will be born here. Still deciding what to do about work this time, as have to weigh up cost of childcare etc.

Just marking my place on the new thread before I drag myself out of bed for work... May go on strike as getting up is proving more and more difficult

Sorry to hear you're having trouble sleeping!! I actually managed to get straight to sleep last night, got up for my 3am wee and fell straight back to sleep!! That's much better than the last couple of nights!!

Still shattered though, people keep promising me that at some point I'll get an energy boost!!!

I'm not sure I'd opt for surgery unless I had no choice, that being said I'm not really seeking the natural approach either, I'd quite like all the pain relief they can muster!!!

Morning ladies! I'm seeing a consultant after 20week scan so then not seeing the midwife for another 6 weeks unless there's a problem with the scan. I've been told given the sheer horror of ds's birth and shocking after care fuckups, if I want a c section, I will probably get one. (thats not the nhs wording) Thing is I dont know if I want one...

I think with the c section it's easier to mention it earlier on that you are considering one. It sets the wheels in motion. It's not set in stone so you can decide nearer the time if its something you want to do or not.

I had a checkup with the consultant and told her after dc4s crash section, I want a section again this time! She's put it in my notes and didn't try to put me off, she's more concerned with getting me too 28wks and giving me 2 wkly scans, she said ideally they want me to get to 36 wks so will see what happens :)

No sickness yesterday touch wood so hopefully that is it starting to pass.
All I do at the minute is sleep, but I don't think the anti sickness meds help, or the fact I've not eaten anything for weeks.
Good to see some confirmed dates. I'm actually terrified of the thought of a c section so hoping nature is going to help me out

Has anyone signed up to any parenting/baby clubs yet, such as boots?
While I'm off work I wondered whether to do it now but not sure if its too early? With boots I know you get some vouchers for nappies etc but not sure how long they will be dated for!

Redwelly- make sure you don't beat yourself up about it. It's really tough- especially as you can't make sense of it. Remember that it could very well be hormonal. The sooner you chat to med professional the better- it could be nothing that a bit of rest wouldn't cure or if you need more help they'll point you in the right direction. Nothing wrong with phoning midwife before appt for a chat or asking for appt earlier if you don't want to wait til original appt. if you want to pm me go for it- will try to work out how that all works! Those of you not sleeping- really hope it gets better for you soon as you must be exhausted- its a tiring enough time when you're getting normal sleep!

I liked the boots parenting club as you get 10 points per pound on advantage card til baby is 18 months old. Quite handy with all the nappies/ wipes etc.

Aloha- 12 weeks hey? It must be hard knowing what you would get in uk. I suppose when you see that everyone around you is having the same it can make it seem normal but must still be hard for you.

Sorry I'm not mentioning everyone by name- I keep reading posts and making mental note of replies to each but then my head loses them as I'm typing on phone!

As for section- it's a tough call to make. Being told by midwife last time that its lucky I gave birth in this country scared me somewhat. As did the surprise for both her an my go in hearing I would be having a dc2!

I've been trying not to think about the birth last time round, I decided I'd get pregnant first and think about the whole birth thing later... it seemed like a good plan at the time. Now it's "later".

We saw a not bad flat yesterday, then found out the agent charges £300 + VAT for the application and contract. And reading online reviews, barely anybody rates them as an agent, so we'll give that one a miss. Think I'd prefer a house / bungalow anyway!

I'm really rather scared by the idea of birth. My sister had a truly awful time with my nephew, bordering on negligence, and ended up having an emergency section. My sister was then really very ill afterwards.

My niece was then elective c section as my sister was told she wouldn't give birth naturally.

Admittedly she gave birth in one of the worst-performing maternity units in the entire country (thank god I don't live there now), but I'm still rather bothered by the entire thought of it. Maybe I'll discuss it with my MW and see what she says about my birth phobia!

It's a difficult one now that there is choice.

Oh, spent almost the entire night awake stressing about work and how much I hate it and the (immediate) people I work with. And about the proposed compulsory increase in hours if I start my changing contract.

I also had to get up to be sick, which isn't great. I'm not normally sick in the night.

Must email my soon-to-be manager in a bit and tell him that I don't think I can increase my hours due to being pregnant and exhausted and see what he says.

Right well it's about time I de-lurked. Expecting number three 17/06, bit of a surprise! Now that I can feel movements I guess it's time I started taking it a bit more seriously, have told work this week and had to buy maternity pants... I feel like a house, but taking comfort in the fact that after two babies there is just no more room for stretch marks... Honestly, it's like the stretchy stuff they keep expensive peaches in down there!

Hoping for a home birth like with my last. After an induction with the first... and stuff... nothing beat having a round of toast (with pâté - I miss pâté like nobody's business), quick shower and straight to bed after having DS in the front room.
