I have definitely been feeling something, and I would say that it's too different from anything I've ever known to be anything other than bubs making 'his' (I don't know) presence known. It's quite intermittent though. I'm either 16 or 16+4 depending on which date we use. I've had this for a good couple of weeks at least.

I hope we can find the heartbeat at my MW appt tomorrow afternoon. Still torn as to whether I'm going to ask to find as I'll be a bit 'arrgggghhh' if we can't, and then it's 4 weeks til the 20 week scan, during which time I KNOW I'll drive myself bonkers!

And as a fellow 'yeti' I can say that I won't be finding out the sex at the scan, though we both have the feeling it's a boy and we tend to refer to it as he too.

One or the other, eh? :-)

And oh no, pinkapples, how annoying.

If we get the bungalow we're going to have to cancel our nursery set as there are built in wardrobes in the room, so there's really no point buying a wardrobe as well.

We will then use the cot bed from a friend and DH's sister has said her and her husband will buy the dresser / changer for us.

Bit cheaper that way!

It's a girl!!!! Whoop!! We are so pleased, and so relieved as we have been calling it she since the word go. DH has five sisters and they all have boys so it always felt like this one would be a girl. A little girl!!!!

those of you with anterior placentas when did you find out ? I haven't been told at 12 week scan but haven't felt any movement at 18 weeks. I wonder if this may be why ?

Report
Sarah2506 · 06/01/2013 17:44

I have an anterior placenta and am 17+2 today. Haven't felt anything - she said its like putting a duvet between you and baby and takes a lot longer to feel kicks.

Thats great Sarah! I'm sure I read somewhere that the majority of pregnant woman who didn't know what they were having when asked to guess the gender guessed correctly. With DS we picked his name before the 12 week scan, we were arguing about girls names on the way to the hospital as nothing seemed to fit the bump, MIL is sure this is because we knew we were having a boy.

This time round, we've pretty much agreed for either, so that theory doesn't work anymore (And I'm definately only having one!)

Yay! Congrats Sarah. How lovely. :-)

Wonder if we do have a sense about it?!

How lovely Sarah
Curly it's in my notes after my 12 wk scan. Sonographer briefly mentioned it but said they are really more interested in placenta position at 20 wk scan

sarah thats really good!
I'll have to study my notes from my 12week scan, find out where the placenta is! Have most people started buying bits and bobs? i really want to, but dh isnt keen on buying anything "too early"
I loved hearing the heart beat, i think i actually felt a bit more emotional hearing it than i did seeing it at the scan. Looking forward to 20 week scan though at end of January Smile We arent going to find out if its a boy or girl, so guess we'll be getting lots of yellow and green things!!

maisiebeem · 06/01/2013 18:23

i also need to stop calling my baby "it"!

DontmindifIdo · 06/01/2013 18:25

oooh, Maisie - for those who don't find out, shall we have a little experiment, perhaps around 30 weeks, you can all say what you think you are going to have and then we'll see if you were right!!!

Although Maisie, I'd say you don't need to buy much anyway in the way of clothes and white bedding is best so you can hot wash it and not worry! And if you've not gone for blue or pink then you can use it for the next one...

Yellow is the way forwards for decoration. White for baby grows etc :-)

I like that idea, Don'tMind. Will be really interesting to see.

DontmindifIdo · 06/01/2013 18:33

oh god, white babygrows, apart from anything else, so you can deal with poo stains a little easier (bleach then wash again in sensitive stuff) when they do one of those "all the way up the back, nearly in their hair" poos. Oh god, I'd forgotten about those

Oh so much to look forward to! Haha! I've always wondered why people but so many white baby grows and bedding -makes sense now! Didn't think about hot washes, bleach etc!
Luckily with the future nursery it's already decorated nicely, With floral blue wall paper on one wall- so I'm saying that will do for either! Hehe!

maisiebeem · 06/01/2013 18:40

And that is a very good idea to all guess at 30 weeks! For a re first few months I was convinced it as a girl, now I'm leaning more towards a boy!

Am I going mad - glad to see there is someone due on same day as me!! Do you know why you are under consultant care this time? I am with Consultant for previous C/S - a bit apprehensive as my Consultant here is lovely and I obviously don't know who I will get in Australia (!)
I have loads of spots too.... Nightmare.

Don'tmindifIdo - my older DC's are 4 and 8 so won't need a buggy board or anything.... The choice of prams is much more limited in Australia and prices are higher so def worth buying it here and putting it with the shipping, hence researching early. I have a friend who has recently been over for a return visit from Australia pg with her DC2 and bought her pram to take back on the plane.

Our yoga yeacher always said that hairy = boy and less hairy/slower hair growth = girl. We did a straw poll and it seemd to work.

I have a feeling this bump is a boy, which I will confess I have mixed feelings about,. I'd have liked dd to have a sister and this is my last child. Ultimately though a healthy baby is the main aim! No one in my maternal line has had boys and on my husbands side its all boys.

Good evening all! I am new to this thread, so thought I would introduce myself. 17 weeks today, due on the 16th June. First baby, very excited! Next scan on 31st, and def want to find out sex if we can.

You lot are makin me feel like should be buying stuff, DH reckons don't start until April but now I feel like maybe that is a bad move? Been to have a look at prams, like the look of the urbo from mamas and papas but a bit worried about the size of the shopping basket- anyone tried one?

Dreading going back to work tomorrow, I'm an upper school teacher and have really been enjoying this break. Can't believe I have to go back tomorrow :(

I'm going to wait till probably February to start buying stuff I think, I partly don't know where to store it all until baby arrives. Planning on doing a lot of car boot sales to make space! I am such a hoarder, a habit that I need to break! X

Like ella I'm not hairier (except hair on head growing more quickly) and am having a girl. So maybe there's something in the testosterone idea...

I have itchy back and a few spots for first time in many years, yuk Blush

I'm not hairy and I'm having a girl!

Redwelly you asked why I was having a section. I have chrons disease and had a perianal fistula operated on years ago. It left a lot of scar tissue about a cm from baby's exit point. This will not stretch it will just tear through which will leave me with two connected exit points and the need for a lot of surgery to repair it, which won't heal because my tissue is diseased and doesn't heal. Sorry if TMI!

MrsBri I know there was some new guideline about sections being available on request but Barnet Hospital was quite clear they just wouldn't entertain it unless needed. Too many planned and needed and emergency sections for them to include those just on request. They said they would consider it for severe mental distress, but otherwise would need to be physically indicated. Have to say not sure I'd want this if there was an option. Recovery sounds pretty grim.

Mutley - you might want to try the pram shed section - there's lots of reviews on there.

Do you know what the winter weather is like where you're going? I wanted a proper pram top to mine I bought having DS as I was having a winter baby wanted to be able to snuggle him up, rahter than a seat that laid back but meant you couldn't put proper blankets in and fiddle with the straps etc. There was snow on the ground for the first 7-8 weeks of his life (oh I just remember skidding on the sheet ice in the Doctor's carpark going for our 6 week checks, you'd think they'd clear a GP practice carpark wouldn't you?) , but that's probably not going to be an issue even though you're having a winter baby afterall!
