Re c sections, I think I'm going to go into my consultant appointment saying I want one, if they can talk me out of it with convincing promises it won't be so bad this time round, then ok, but I think I'll do some crying and make a fuss. Then I'm going to make the decision if I actually want one, I can't remember who said up thread about easier to go back to asking to do it naturally than c section than to go from planned natural to c section once the consultant appointment has been and gone, but it makes sense.

MrsBri - as awful as it sounds, if you want a c section, you need to make it clear now - a big fuss will be needed if you want a c section for non-medical reasons. (You might need a touch of the Am Drams)

DontmindifIdo the winter weather sounds more like our summer (being a bit flippant but low temps are generally around 8 degrees and daytime will be low teens) - however I did really want a summer baby having had 2 winter ones myself!!! Ice won't be a contender but yes I do like them to be snuggled up and had the pramette for my older two although that seems really dated now!! The mountain buggy has a separate carrycot, as does the babystyle oyster. I think carrycots are also nice for summer (hopefully will be coming to us late Sept so baby will only be a couple of months by then) - as it means the baby can just lie free without sweaty straps etc.

My Consultant was brilliant with Number 2 - we had an hour "post-trauma" discussion one to one, relating to my previous EMCS birth. She then referred me to the consultant midwife for a review of my notes on first birth. I sort of wanted to try for a VBAC but my "sensible" head won out and I went for the ELCS. I have never heard of anyone being refused after a previous C/S because there are risks of a VBAC and therefore they wouldn't make you have one!

Once you are under Consultant care you can request to see your Consultant at any time - and in fact will probably have regular appointments in their clinic anyway, so easy to review your decision.

The thing is, Dontmind, I don't know what I want. If I could guarantee a non-traumatic vaginal birth, I'd take it. Sigh.

I'll mention it to the midwife and see if she can assist my nerves :-)

I love all this hairiness talk...couldn't do it in real life!

Mutley77 I'm an Aussie - whereabouts you moving to? I'm jealous, wish I could have my baby back there, hospitals and care are of such a good standard.....

Mutley77 · 06/01/2013 20:59

Olimoss We are moving to Perth although DH is from Melbourne (and I am British) so it is all new to us.....! I am not sure I will be getting great care as going to be on medicare so no nice private hospitals or choosing my obstetrician...... From the sounds of it I am expecting it to be fairly similar to NHS though.

olimoss · 06/01/2013 21:06

Ah Perth is my hometown, do you know which area you're going to live/hospital? Winter there is very mild, and very sunny...

Report
Mutley77 · 06/01/2013 21:14

Nope - no ideas as yet - any recommendations gratefully received! We will be in some kind of serviced apartment to start with, not sure where. We are then looking at areas to live in but I think I would rather be there and get a bit of a feel for it before we decide.... We were set on south of the city to start with but then realised the commute to the city for DH would be potentially harder, and access to the beach not so easy. There seem to be loads of hospitals and I guess I will have to opt for one and maybe change if it is too far from where we are living! Again any recommendations?

Yes, plenty! Where will your partner be working, geography-wise? I'm not v Mumsnet-savvy, if there's a PM function feel free to message me that way...

Mawgatron- welcome! I'm a secondary teacher and go bk tomrw too. Been off with AND and anxiety since end nov so am having that Sunday night feeling combined with big nerves!

Mutley- under consultant after a few issues last time around (GBS, tough labour, need for transfusion etc). So a few issues to discuss and to be reassured on. I'm really torn ( pardon the pun!) as to whether to try to insist on cs or whether to try and hope that this time around will be better. Just want to say to all you lovely first timers that nearly all of my friend had really good births first time and some second time already. It's not all awful like some of our posts suggest sometimes. There really are straightforward vaginal births and that's why I'm so undecided. Think I might take don'tmind's approach as it seems to make a lot of sense.

Sarah- congratulations!

Redwelly- hope you're managing to get some rest now.

Right- off to sleep now!
Enjoy appt tomrw mrsbri!Smile

AmIGoingMad - hope your Consultant is helpful - is v difficult to know how to pitch it when you don't know what line they take. Personally I would make sure you are seeing the consultant, not just a member of the team, as he/she is the expert and has the final say. Also, worth asking around locally to see if anyone had the same Consultant to gauge what view he/she might take. Good luck....

On the subject of the urbo that's the one I think we'll go with Grin

Report
forgetmenots · 07/01/2013 07:09

I was going to go for the urbo too,but read a lot of bad reviews (about the wheel?) - it may be resolved though but have a google before you buy! I ended up going for the Zoom (similar spec, amazing sale price, couldn't find anything bad online except for generic complaints about M&P).

Morning :-)

My MS is determined to hang around...feel awful today. Not helped by having to get up just before 6 to go to work. I've only had 6 days off, but it feels like loads more, weirdly!

At least I'm leaving early to go to my MW appt later and working from home afterwards.

How is everyone else faring?

Morning all, thought I'd been really busy over Christmas until I've see how much I've missed out on.

Not glad to be back at work today as my body clock seems to have adjusted to waking up way later than 6.30!

Hope everyone's doing ok xx

Bloody well first day back at work for a month and I'm all cold and sweary and can't remember my computer login and complain-moan-mutter.

Other than that I'm fine, although the commute of walk-bus-overground-train-walk is worse than I recall.

I know I'd be bored in about 5 mins if I wasn't at work, but at the moment it's looking like a great idea to loaf around on the sofa. I have to go see my personal trainer on Thursday, after a break of 2 months. That'll suck.

SunnyL · 07/01/2013 11:20

Personal trainer? I think a personal trainer would take one look at me and laugh their ass behind off. Back at zumba tomorrow and will have to tell my instructor I'm pregnant. She's so loud the entire town will know by the end of that class!

I have been seeing him for over a year now, but had to give up at about 7 weeks pregnant as the risk of hurling on the gym floor got too high! So haven't done any swimming or other exercise since then. I expect it to hurt, but determined not to sloth around too much before new human arrives as I plan to totally sloth around for a good while after they do...

I am starting pregnancy bikram yoga today. Has anyone else heard of Bikram? Its the yoga you do in a room heated to forty degrees. Understandably thats out while pregnant and I have really missed it. They do a pregnancy version in a warm room and I've been looking forward to going so much, and now I'm enough weeks in to be allowed. I'm really excited!!

Right ladies - serious stuff here - PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES. Yes - I'll just repeat that again PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES

Suffice to say mine were bloody perfect before I got a little cold and started sneezing and well, Blush I need to improve them. Can't google as at work but does anyone know if you can improve them during pregnancy?!?!? Praying it is possible
