Drom we've probably done it about 5 times the whole pregnancy... It's not that I don't want to in fact beginning of 2nd trimester was defintely the best time (not too fat, lots of well, ahem, blood flow in the right bits) but frankly after that I couldn't be a) arsed and b) I felt like a comedy barrage balloon. Luckily I think we both kind of feel the same, but if you are like alpy I can imagine you might want to sanitise your Jessica Rabbit.

Question for the floor: what do people with dogs do on firework night? (that's not a joke with a punchline by the way). I can't leave the little guy on his own with all the bang bangs.. I wonder if you can get doggy earplugs.

Our old dog was never bothered by fireworks moo, neither are the cats. Do you have a neighbour who could watch him?

I think we'll see how he is tomorrow (the fireworks are on the common at the bottom of our street) and then maybe go to the ones which are a bit further away on Saturday. It will be my luck that I have a son who is born on firework night and a dog who is terrified of them!!! :)

I am debating whether to go to fireworks with mini C. There is a kiddies display near us at 6.30 but despite being walking distance it is still about 20 mins walk which I can't manage atm and I reckon parking will be a nightmare. The folks are in the area but are staying with bro and sil so I don't have babysitter so can;t make the ones on the Common. Logistically it just seems to be too much hassle, boo hiss.

But Okie, you can't go to fireworks display when you're PREGNANT! Won't somebody think of the children, etc.?

Ah I am a bit worried about our cat. We have to leave him to fend for himself over night tomorrow and normally we would just keep him in. We don't have a litter tray so can't just shut him in so just hoping he has the sense to hide indoors when the fireworks start. Problem is the little scallies are mad for fireworks round our way and tend to let em off willy nilly :(

Moo TBs folks always put the radio on to talk radio or 5 or something, the sound of voices tends to calm their dogs down when they arn't there. You could try this?

I've just been looking through my MW notes from my booking-in scan (was searching for some random info) and noticed that Miss MW has ticked 'consultant-led' for my birth choice/requirements abd has put 'S/N' in the box about partner info! I know TYF is very special, but he's not that kind of special. I wonder what it means? And above all, why the hell has she put consultant-led when we didn't actually discuss my birth plans above me saying that I ideally hope for a water birth with minimal intervention but I'm open to any/all pain relief and so on, as I want to take it as it comes (you've gotta be realistic and I couldn't give a shit about the 'only real wombyn do it without pain relief' brigade). Also, does this mean she suspects that I've got something wrong with me that could be dodgy or that she suspects, for whatever reason, that my labour could be high-risk? If this was the case, should she not have tactfully brought these issues up? Surely it can't just be because of my age?! Yes, I have chronic fatigue, but it's not quite the same as being a torso on a pillow, is it, so it surely can't be that either! I daren't blahdy ring and ask because I only rang yesterday about the squid ink gusset and don't want to look like a neurotic fool any more than I already do

Chill! It is way too early to get stressed about birth plans yet. My midwife told me we'd discuss it properly at a later check up. It says midwife unit on mine at the moment, I could change it to consultant or homebirth if I liked.

She may well put that for everyone who doesn't say homebirth, it could just be a two system thing. My midwife seems to put midwife unit for everyone judging by the conversation we had.

pre-existing medical conditions scorps. I was down for a CL birth from the minute I saw my GP. Succeeded in getting signed off for MWled two days before Squeaks was born (on the cons. ward, strapped to all sorts of shit, because she was prem). Just question everything they do and ask to see your own consultant rather than some dumb registrar who is so occupied with covering their own arse they won't actually listen.

But CL did equal more scans for me (silver lining).

It is too early for birth plans, but please learn from my lesson and ask early on what the perceived risks are that put you into the CL category. If they can't identify them, you should be cleared for MW led waterbirth, as long as baby is full term etc. It works both ways. you can be shifted back to CL care if problems arise.

I meant learn from my mistake, of course.

He got all funny and barky with kids running up and down the street on halloween and ringing our doorbell, so not sure the banging will go down well either. I've just had a MASSIVE walk, punctuated with a big fat hot choc in the park caff and now he so tired he's keeps walking around and flopping over. Is very funny.

scorps woah there girlfriend. There are zillions of weeks before you need to worry about where you will be (i.e. not until 36 weeks) so don't fret. Just ask the MW at next appointment and discuss what you're aiming for. I really wouldn't worry yet. They'd have to have a clinical reason for putting you on labour ward and not MLU and have that agreed with a consultant. Since neither of those things have happened, I'd just stop worrying and wait until nearer the time. Otherwise you'll end up with high BP from all the stress!

I wasn't allowed to make a call on my care until after 20 week scan. In fact, I'll be talking about it with the midwife next week.

Is there a midwife-led unit in your hospital? If there isn't, your only options will be CL care or homebirth - and, afaik, you don't want a homebirth, do you?

BTW CL care isn't just about the birth. It involves a greater number of antenatal appointments, both MW and hospital (or at least it did in my case) so it's not something you want to be lumbered with without good reason. scorps, you might have to first see the consultant to get out of seeing them IYSWIM. And if MW has referred you for CL care you should get an appointment soon.

BUT the others are dead on - please do not stress about the actual birth just yet!

I'm feeling reet arsey today and this tipped me over the edge. I don't want a homebirth but there are MW-led units in BOTH the hospitals near me. If someone thinks I'll need CL care, then that is cool, but I do not want someone making decisions for me or presuming stuff without discussing it with me first. That is my particular bugbear. Have already struggled with the patronising attitudes I've encountered as a differd and people acting like I don't know anything and that they know best for me and don't need to tell me stuff.

I was like this even as a tiny tot, btw. No-one could just tell me to do something without explaining why. I have to know the reasons why and be kept in the loop. I am the stubbornest fucker about. Oh gawd, Teh Baybee better be laid-back like TYF!

I shall chill and ring her on Monday. It's most likely that cos of a few minor factors combined that she'd like to have a chat with a consultant, but she should've told me that in the first place. Now I am going to eat some chips and fume generally about everything.

I would be pleased that they are arranging for you to see a consultant. You'll get more specialised care if they believe anything needs keeping an eye on, so surely that is a good thing? I got myself right wound up about seeing him a few weeks ago and was expecting him to want to induce me due to size etc. but I couldn't have been more wrong and he was happy for me to give birth wherever. Now I just think how fabulous the NHS is and that generally everyone gets good care and they are so careful. I know the MW has wound you up about salutations but just make sure you don't leave an appointment until everything has been explained and you can always ring in between appointments if you're worried. Now go and eat something yummy!

Now I've eaten I can see I was being a little, ahem, hormonal. I'm not worrying about the birth yet, not at all (trying to block it out of my mind, if anything!), I just got irate at the fact she'd made that decision without informing or consulting me. I'm a bit of a control freak who's used to being the boss, so me no likee. If I get extra-special care and attention, then I'm all for that. I see now her heart was in the right place and it's good that she wants me to have the best and right care (and perhaps because there was such a big deal made about everyone else the MWs see in my area being vv young, she's erring on the side of caution and isn't used to people wanting or needing decisions explained to them ) - just that I don't respond well to feeling patronised. I feel so out of control with my pain and nausea that I'm getting wound up by any hint of control not being mine.

Besides, if everyone is right about their OMG_TWINZZZ!11!!1! teasing, I'll need CL-care anyway
