just making my place

weehector · 01/08/2010 11:43

vita you had me at chocolate raspberry pudding cake. Just give me 5 mins as I've just had 3 spponfuls of Gaviscon. I'll take some milk with it just now but I've brought some Veuve for later.

bubba how exciting. Keep us posted...our first August (and new thread) red alert. Whoop!

Oh and been nosing over on the childbirth threads, looks like anifers is well on her way.

bouncingblueberries · 01/08/2010 12:00

Yay! Shiny new thread! How are we all today? bubba any more news? How exciting!

chulita you are doing an amazing job honey. I completely know what you're going through with the thrush and it is no fun Thankfully, mine seems to be easing. I'm sure the probiotics are helping, as well as being really diligent about changing my breast pads after every feed and my bra every day. If you want to try the probiotics, they're called acidophilus and I take 2 capsules per day. I went through 3 months of thrush with ds1 and it was miserable so I'm determined not to let this dose of thrush take hold. Stick with it honey, you'll get there. If you need to moan, cry, vent in frustration, you know where I am.

kcoffin it's so hard having a newborn, so please stop being so hard on yourself. I'm now on day 7 (one whole week! wow!) and find I have one really shitty day and one not so shitty day turn about. On day 3 I was sat on my bed, both boobs bared, tears and milk and snot everywhere with my mum rubbing my back (also in tears) and my dh holding my hand. So you're not alone on the tears front! It's a bit of a design flaw I think that our hormones crash just when we're starting to suffer from sleep deprivation and the euphoria of having our newborn baby is starting to wear off...I prescribe chocolate! Or cake! Or both.

gya hope you manage to get some rest. Sounds like you had a tough evening.

Well, it's all been a bit crazy here. ds1 has a urine infection and then came down with suspected tonsilitis yesterday. My poor mum (who's been an absolute star) has a rotten cold and my sinuses are throbbing. So we're a real happy bunch! Thankfully, the thrush seems to be resolving though and Glenn is now timing his cluster feeds for daylight hours - much easier to deal with when dh and my mum can fetch drinks and snacks for me!

As for booze and breastfeeding, I popped a bottle of champagne in the fridge as soon as my waters broke, but as yet I've not really felt like opening it. I want to really enjoy it and not have to worry about getting a couple of hours sleep before the next feeding session!

Finally, thank goodness we have a new thread! The old one kept falling over when I was trying to read it on my phone last night which made for very boring night feeds!

bouncingblueberries · 01/08/2010 12:02

One more thing: kc just wanted to echo what chulita said on the previous thread. Glenn can also take a good 10 minutes to latch on and then we he finally does, he goes and falls asleep so we have to start the whole thing again! Drives me bonkers, but it's so worth it to see those little cheeks starting to get chubbier and knowing it's all due to my milk

Emster30 · 01/08/2010 12:39

Congrats kcoffin and sorry to hear you're feeling rough. I know what you're going through, I keep randomly bursting into tears too and am finding it very hard. The breasfeeding is still really hurting - yesterday I was in floods of tears when feeding and we went off to the local walk in centre as I had convinced myself we had thrush. But no sign of it, so I guess as ever its the latch. I have had my latch checked so often that it's depressing to keep reading online how bfing isn;t supposed to hurt and if it's painful you're doing it wrong. My lovely bfing advisro is now on holiday for 2 weeks so I can't ask her. The doctor recommended nipple shields which I bought and it was a blessed relief, but all the websites said not to use them as they mask other problems with the latch and will mean the breast doesn't get drained.

However I did find a site which recommended a slightly different 'deep latch' technique which seems to be helping somewhat, so I'll perservere with that for today and go to another bfing support group tomorrow for more help.

James had a lovely night's sleep last night - unfortunately I had a horrid sweaty, dozy, sleepless few hours so still feel crap today! grr.

ElusiveMoose · 01/08/2010 13:32

Just marking my place on the the new thread. Feels like we've got a sort of quorum of new babies now, and I can't believe everyone on here will have joined you on that side of the fence in the next few weeks. I had a bit of an 'oh my god this is really going to happen' moment yesterday, though I'm a bit calmer today. I need my builders back to take my mind off it - weekends are too quiet these days .

girlsyearapart · 01/08/2010 14:51

marking my place..

littlemiss shall we just have a talk about alcohol instead then?

Bubbabear · 01/08/2010 14:57

Just a lil update to confirm baby bubbabear is on his way, tho in his own time! Have just got back from 3 hours waiting around at the hospital to be checked over. As soon as midwife started feeling my bump, waters started gushing rather than trickling! Told everything is fine & been sent home to wait for things to kick off naturally (I hope). Still not had any contractions (& seem to have skipped the Braxton Hicks altogether!) so just have to wait & see...

Had a huge list of 'to do' things for next week too! Grrr Although I feel a very calm sort of acceptance rather than panic which is nice Wasn't great hearing some women at the hospital groaning through some contractions in the other rooms but heyho, I can't wait for cuddles with my little boy now!

Funnily enough was just starting to gather some things for my hospital bag when I felt the first trickle this morning, like it was some sort of trigger lol

Have just spoken to DP to get him back home as he's abt 200 or so miles away in North Wales. Although he has been climbing mountains in Switzerland for the last 2 weeks & only got back in the country last night so even tho we're 2&a half weeks early it's quite good timing!

Will keep u updated depending on how I'm feeling & whether we progress quickly or not.

Hope everyones having a lovely weekend x

Chulita · 01/08/2010 15:13

Good luck bubbabear!

thedogwalker · 01/08/2010 15:40

Good luck bubbabear

mrsZaC · 01/08/2010 15:58

afternoon lovely ladies, just checking in to let you know i'm still around! was away in Tiree for a week and very busy doing lots of photography jobs, trying to sort out the nursery at the moment, it's chaos! pain in the but trying to squeeze everything in alongside my office things, wish poor baby had his/her own room, but we'll just have to wait I suppose.

Massive congratulations to girlsyearapart and kcoffin on the arrival of your baby girls!

Best of luck bubba so exciting!!!

Still got quite a bit of work to be getting on with so I'll try to catch up after I'm done.

hope your all well.

x

sparkle101 · 01/08/2010 16:00

Good luck bubbabear hope everything goes lovely!

ElusiveMoose · 01/08/2010 16:47

YAYYYY!!! More babies on the way. We will be expecting regular updates in between contractions, Bubba. (Seriously, good luck!!)

Just spent the last hour on my hands and knees scrubbing the bathroom (it hardly seems worth it when the builders will probably mess it up again tomorrow, but I just couldn't bear it any longer), so I guess that might have brought my birth date a day or two closer .

Alicetheinvisible · 01/08/2010 16:59

Ooh Bubba how exciting! (will admit to being a teeny bit jealous though

Have had a really good walk around Cambridge today. I could feel the baby's head bobbing in and out of my pelvis making me waddle though - very strange! Have got some lovely Cath Kidston bed linen, a new toaster and kettle, a microwave(! we haven't had one for 5yrs) and because of how much we spent in Argos we got a £10 off voucher which i then used on a foot spa, so got it for £10. Happy

Looking forward to having my kitchen back tomorrow evening. I want to make cakes

vix206 · 01/08/2010 17:33

Bubbabear how exciting - nice and early for you then I'm due a few days before you - I know we shouldn't rush these things but I'm also hoping my little boy will make an early debut because I've had enough now.

Keep us posted on your progress xx

Today I've made pizza dough (enough for a few pizzas), lime curd, bread and some yummy heart shaped cherry scones Last day at work tomorrow until mid-late September and I plan to do lots of baking this week, I'm thinking macaroons, brownies and oatmeal biscuits for starters!!

Hope everyone is well and look forward to more baby news soon

LizzieA · 01/08/2010 17:47

Good luck Bubba

Just told my DP that one of the Mumsnet ladies who is due after me has started and it's freaked him out a bit! He's currently outside checking the car over, I think he's gone into stand-by mode! No movements here though, just a baby who seems very happy where he is for the moment.

Aussieng · 01/08/2010 18:13

Good luck Bubba I hope things kick off for you naturally but off not then just wanted to let you know that my induction following SROM was not too bad at all.

Exciting stuff - now it feels like August!

Oh and Vix - meant to say last night - so happy for you about your mat leave. Sounds like things are really coming together for you. I was actually thinking of you when J was a day or so old and how difficult it would be facing going back to work full time in just a few short weeks.

Chulita we were in the car today and J started twittering in his car seat and in seconds I had 2 huge wet patches on my chest - like I was in a wet t-short competition! Must remember the damn breast pads. DH most amused. Luckily we were heading home as I would not have been getting out of the car at the shops like that! Ordered my breats pump and botle kit - although I'm not ready to start giving J ebm yet hopefully a little expressing in the afternoon will take away the gushes.

vix206 · 01/08/2010 18:47

Aussie thanks for thinking of me Going back to work full time isn't on the cards until much much later on. The plan has always been to start going in for a few hours here and there with the baby, as and when I feel like it. We're just going to play it by ear and not rush anything. But yes I am so relieved to be taking time off now because I feel so exhausted and like I am going to 'pop' any second!

We went to the cinema yesterday and the walk to and from the car park almost had me in tears. For a normal person it is a 3 minute walk, it took us 15 minutes because I had to keep stopping. The pressure and discomfort was unbearable, and the pain right down low was really bad. It definitely opened my eyes to how close I am now to giving birth (I think!) and confirms that I need to take it much easier than I have been.

So one more day of work for me (tomorrow) and then that's it for a while

weehector · 01/08/2010 19:18

Not such a brilliant day & night here - in fact have totally lost my sense of humour & any sense of 'oh, little baby come when you are ready' - I need this fecking baby out now. Am a misery of heartburn, leaking boobs & impatience.

So, Bubba, you lucky cow, you're due two weeks after me! (course I don't grudge you really, v excited for you, good luck and I'll be popping on to see if there's any progress for you, hope DP gets home super quick..)

Alice & Vix Chapeau for your domestic goddess-ery. If only I could remotely be arsed. I have yummy mummy aspirations but visitors to Chez Hector can currently expect cake crumbs everywhere & out of date milk.

Emster Cheering you on re bf'ing...but have to admit that at the moment, I feel that you're talking a different language. 'Deep latch technique'..oh God, what lies ahead.

bouncingblueberries · 01/08/2010 20:51

emster, chulita just popping on quickly to give you both huge manly slaps on the backs, a good old punch on the shoulder and a quick chinese burn each - you're both troopers and should be proud of yourself for persevering with breastfeeding. It's fecking hard work isn't it? Thrush or no thrush, good latch or poor latch, it's exhausting. That's for sure. Got mildly pissed off with dh this morning when he decided to have a 2 hour snooze . Now, I know he does wake a little every time I feed G during the night, but he drops off to sleep again pretty quick. Whereas I have to deal with the shitty nappies, the puked on vests and the leaky boobs . So I made him do ALL the shitty nappies today as penance

Good luck bubba! Sending lots of easy labour vibes.

weehector sounds like someone is a wee bit hormonal non? Could be a sign, me dear! Could be a sign! But seriously, sending you lots of sympathy. Maybe you just need to get your arse over to The White Company Sale for some retail therapy to cheer you up?

cazzybabs · 01/08/2010 20:55

Alice - you could have popped in for a cup of tea

Bubbabear · 01/08/2010 21:18

Thanks for all the messages (sorry no personal replies; brain is a bit spaced out right now), feels like I'm being cheered on to the finishing line! Am very chilled and upbeat right now but prob because I've had a chilled out day with my mum, packing my hospital bag & pottering abt (my mum has done my mountain of ironing & changed my bed linen for me while my dad did loads of gardening bless them!) & all without contractions. Have had a few sharp twinges & some wriggling down low but nothing to write home about.

If nothings started by tomorrow I have to go back to hospital at 2pm & they'll check everythings okay & start talking about inducing... DP is now home & made a very tasty dinner. Off to do my nails, cuddle up in front of the telly & possibly / maybe (being hopeful emoticons) get one last 'good' nights sleep!

Will see what tomorrow brings... x

Alicetheinvisible · 01/08/2010 21:24

Cazzy we shall have to meet for tea and cake once the babies are here

DH likes the Cath Kidston bedding so much that he has just ordered the other set too This is someone who has until now refused anything but plain white!

neenz · 01/08/2010 21:29

Good luck bubba!

Vix, great news about the mat leave.

Nothing much happening here but only 38+2. A doctor friend of DH's saw me today and said I would have the baby tonight as my bump is so low - I think she was just being kind but you never know!

babyducky · 01/08/2010 21:36

Good luck bubba
