Home sweet messy home Grin

lazylinguist · 23/04/2021 20:10

Wow - I was about to request @CrochetBug yarn decoration, but I see it's already taken care of!
@bruffin I'm nowhere near finishing the cushion. I may have got distracted by other WIPs. Blush

The yarn decoration makes the thread very cosy @CrochetBug.

Thanks for the thread @lazylinguist

I'm just settling down for a couple more blanket rows, and an oh-so-thrilling browse of navy tights on t'interweb (any suggestions welcome!).

lazylinguist · 23/04/2021 21:00

As I was feeling better, I foolishly succumbed to a glass of wine with dinner and now I feel a bit achy again, having felt fine all day. Idiot! Resisted another glass and have settled down with a cup of sleepy tea and my crochet basket.

Checking in for the new thread. And admitting lazy (not the best user name in this context) for dedication to "furrin" audiobooks - where did you find those?

Minimal Sophie progress this evening as I dedicated it to buying tickets for the Hampton Court Festival instead - Bjorn Again this year, and Rick Astley next - yes, I like my cheesy music, and DH is happy to come along for the pre-concert boozy picnic (plus he'll enjoy it anyway, even if he won't admit it - he was dad-dancing along to Kylie a couple of years ago).

But update attached regardless. I'm both liking and disliking the whirl. The effect is great, but you lose some of the definition in the stitches, so wonder why you're bothering. If/when I remake, it will definitely be in different colours.

admiring lazy*. I think you admitted yourself by starting the thread!

Myshitisreal · 24/04/2021 03:39

@badatcrochet1996 👋 welcome.

I'm on my second attempt at the dragonfly scarf, it's taken a lot for me to understand the pattern. Hadn't anticipated the difficulties I've had with it 😬😬😬

Filet crochet really is something else.

I've ordered scheepjes whirl today to make one for a birthday in June. Never used it before so excited for it arriving.

Loving seeing everyone's progress. SOPHIE is really growing 😍

Ill see if i can get a photo of the scarf up soon. I'm 18 rows in

InTheNightWeWillWish · 24/04/2021 07:28

bookshark Sophie is looking really great. I love the effect as it moves out and the colour change seems like it ties up with the row changes perfectly.

C’mon corchetbug to really make it look like home you need to fling some crochet hooks round too. And the tape measure that’s fallen under the sofa, maybe the scissors too Grin

We’re going to do our usual Saturday morning walk around town. I think it’s the farmers market today so I don’t think the yarn lady is allowed on the market today but I’m going to pop into the posh yarn shop. I’ve got two patterns I’m shopping for and hopefully they’ll have something in for them. I think I’ll have to wait until yarn lady is on the market for buttons though. Then I think I’m going to make DH do dog training and I’m going to try and do some crochet but I’ll probably just end up napping on the sofa again! Although if I do have any energy, I should probably do housework 😒

lazylinguist · 24/04/2021 07:58

@BookShark your Sophie is looking absolutely stunning!
I get the furrin audiobooks through an Audible subscription. It's brilliant because you can slow down the playback speed, which is really useful when you're listening in another language.

Good news is I've got yet another job to apply for. Honestly, they're like buses - none for donkey's years and then 3 one after another! I might have more chance at this one because it's part time (in a lovely little rural secondary school with fewer than 200 kids!).

lucysmam · 24/04/2021 16:27

We've just got in from The Range since we didn't get there last week. Not much to be had in the form of yarn.

I did drag the kids back to Poundland for the sparkly pink though so now I can start my jackety thing. The pattern I've found says she used appx 500g for one much longer than I want so I've bought 500g & plan to measure as I go. There was plenty for a nip back if I look like I'm running short.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 24/04/2021 16:47

Oh, this thread looks comfy. Awesome title too Grin

NiceCardigan I was just browsing though the last thread looking for something and I think I missed seeing your KAL cushion the first time, it looks fantastic!

I said I wasn't into cushions but the finished ones are tempting me...

BookShark that is a work of art! It just looks so amazing and I'm so impressed you'd consider another!

Brilliant news on the job front lazy!

Anyone see anything interesting at Wonderwool? I saw an amazing pom pom maker on their Facebook page yesterday that made anything from teeny tiny to enormous ones. I was tempted even though I don't make pompoms Grin

lazylinguist · 24/04/2021 17:05

I bought a pompom maker about 4 years ago, Flavia. I have not made a single pompom with it. Grin

My KAL cushion is going nowhere atm - I am too absorbed with my Goldwing jumper and scraps basket. This is exactly why I told myself I wasn't allowed more than 3 WIPs. Two would probably be better. But I ignored my own instructions Hmm . I think colourwork has taken over from sock-making as my new favourite thing. Colourwork socks are a must at some point!

I'm actually super excited about the new job opportunity. The others I was a bit torn about whether I really wanted them or not (but knew I ought to), but this one feels like it's got my name on it. Part time is a lot less scary, and I'd probably be able to carry on doing a bit of my current work alongside it and have more time for knitting and crochet . Grin

lazy fingers crossed for this job. Sounds ideal for you then. Obviously more time for knitting and crochet is a wise choice.

I picked up some yarn from the posh yarn shop today. It was the farmers market, so no yarn lady on the market. I did treat myself to a cookie though and picked up some local honey and local plum jam. I’ve managed a row of crochet today. I’m going to try and do some more this evening.

Kate105 · 24/04/2021 18:42

Hi everyone sorry I've dropped off the last thread! Since I went back to work (as in back to school from WFH) everything has been so manic I've barely had time to think! Still churning out baby jumpers, including some for myself! We found out we're expecting a while back but only now plucking up the courage to commit to buying/making things... The kids at school noticed my bump this week which sounds weird but made it feel a lot more real!

Most recent creation attached... Not for me, we don’t know what flavour we’re having!

Fingers crossed about the job application @lazylinguist ! Also a language teacher and have to say that there seems to be a lot going at the moment, definitely more than usual! Hopefully they won't all get snapped up before we hire someone for my mat leave 😬🤞🏻

Oh that's lovely Kate, congratulations! SmileFlowers That's such a pretty jumper too!

InTheNightWeWillWish that sounds like a lovely day, I really miss wandering around markets!

lazylinguist sounds prefect for you! Having that enthusiasm will definitely give you an edge too! Any photos of your goldwing? Smile

sophs29 · 24/04/2021 19:17

Congratulations @Kate105 such lovely news! And that jumper is beautiful! I bet you've been hunting for cute patterns for your little one!

Good luck @lazylinguist sounds like a lovely job!

@lucysmam I saw a sparkley pink/peach yarn in Poundland last time I was in there and it was a gorgeous shade I just couldn't think of anything I could make with it! I wonder if it's the same!

petridishmystery · 24/04/2021 19:20

Ooo new thread! Lovely. I finished a jumper last night! It’s not really wearable, despite counting I still messed up some of my rows and my sewing up was so bad (I think I need to make some squares and just practice sewing them up, then undo it then sew them up again etc) but for the first trial run I am still pleased with it. Going to just do small projects for a bit and then try again once I’ve done some more sewing practice

lucysmam · 24/04/2021 19:22

@sophs29 it's this one. I've just realised I actually bought two balls a while ago as well & have only made a few little things with them so I shouldn't run out

InTheNightWeWillWish · 24/04/2021 19:26

Congratulations kate. That’s a lovely little jumper.

flavia we’ve been lucky that our market has been able to continue throughout, albeit somewhat reduced. Food and flower stalls have been able to be open. Today was the first farmers market for a while and it was lovely to see some of the other stall holders that didn’t make it onto the reduced market. The cafes also shoved tables out for everyone to sit at, so there was a really lovely atmosphere of everyone being outside again and supporting their favourite local places.

sophs29 · 24/04/2021 19:50

Yes that's the one @lucysmam it's lovely isn't it!
I so wish I knew someone with baby girls to make pretty things for! I have a 5 year old niece but haven't got the time to make bigger things right now! It's taking me forever just to make my DS's frog Grin

@petridishmystery that looks very cosy I love the colour choice and the stripes!
