Just jumping on here, think I need to call it a day this evening, just had to frog and redo 3 rounds!

Soon have to decide if I'm going to stick with 3 colours or add a fourth - decisions decisions

A lovely new thread. I’m all at sea at the moment as I’ve just left my current job and am not sure what I want to do next so I can’t cope with any that needs too much thought. I’m making a blanket with all my left over sock wool as I can do that on autopilot!

Checking in too!

@tizwozliz what fourth colour would you add?

4th thread already! Grin
@tizwozliz that's looking great already!

This is the colour. I'd alternate it so it would be blue every other stripe. I'm leaning towards not at the moment.

@tizwozliz I think the other colours are quite warm toned and that one is quite cool toned? But it might just be my tired eyes haha!

I've finally finished part 5 of the CAL 💃🏼 just the border to do! My edges are a bit wobbly where my tension has changed through stitches - mainly the granny parts so I'm hoping the border pulls it all together!

Hello all! @CrochetBug - thank you for decorating the thread .

@NiceCardigan - are you looking for another similar job, or a complete change? I'll be back to doing my little bits of language teaching from next week and will also be on call as a cover teacher at the secondary school (where dh works and both my dc go!).

Haven't done any crochet or knitting this evening as I had a Zoom call with friends. I'm also a bit excited today as I've booked a couple of days away with extended family to celebrate my 50th birthday in October! Hope it will go ahead...

I'm leaning with you @tizwozliz looks lovely with the 3 colours. I love the pattern! Did you post a link on the previous thread? I might add it to my "to do" wish list 😊 and all your little hexagons are so cute!

@CrochetBug - I am trying to figure out my colors for the KAL, and I was thinking about the price of a bloody cushion with that wool. I am going to look at other Aran options.

I can't believe we are on thread 4. I love this! Thank you all.

Has anybody knitted a dog coat? My DSis has just got a new tiny puppy Murphy and she wants a coat for him. I was thinking about one off Ravelry, unless anyone has a recommendation.

I went for the Sirdar Bonus Aran Tweed as used in the original pattern for the KAL. It was £9.99, but it's a 400g ball, so at least I'll have a good chunk left to add to my currently Aran-less stash. Unless I decide to make 2 cushion covers!

I think the three colours you're already using are lovely as they are tizwoz.

I'm picking up my yarn from my friend's house after work today so going to practise fdc again today...when the house is less of a pigsty Blush

@Nervousdave I'll put the link on this thread too, it's very straightforward once you get going. Prints out on 2 sides of A4 as well which makes me happy. Lots and lots of finished projects on Ravelry too which i looked through when trying to decide on colours

The pattern says worsted weight yarn but I'm making mine in DK (because i didn't bother reading the pattern properly before buying my yarn)

Checking in!

I finished a sleeve last night. I'm not 100% sure about it, I think I may have been better not doubling the mohair, but I'm already mentally planning my next project after the sleeve is done so it stays as it is Grin

@lazylinguist I worked in dispute resolution and I am done with that!. I did previously work in an advice role and I might go back to that. I can’t do angry people anymore.

Not sure how many people are doing the KAL - will go back and check and make a list so we know who's waiting for yarn etc. A run, yoga and a bit of online teaching for me this morning so far. Blitzing the house this afternoon before settling down to some CAL!

I'm still a maybe on the KAL. Need to get some needles and see if I can manage a swatch before committing.

Now should I learn English or Continental - i think i read that Continental is sometimes easier for crocheters to pick up?

You have my admiration tizwoz your project looks great. I can't crochet for toffee.

CrochetBug · 05/03/2021 13:33

I like the colours you've used so far @tizwozliz. I wouldn't add a fourth.

What's the difference between English and continental knitting? I'll be doing whatever my mum shows me. She said she knits weirdly but it works. Grin

I'm meeting my therapist for a walk later. I'm terrified so going to work on my granny square for a bit to calm my nerves.

In continental knitting you hold the working yarn in your left hand and use the point of the needle that's in your right hand to hook the yarn and bring it through the stitch.

In English knitting style you hold the working yarn in your right hand and move your right hand to wrap the yarn around the end of the needle.

I do English knitting. I did learn how to do continental knitting so that I could do Fairisle with one yarn in each hand, but I find it awkward and uncomfortable, so for me it's no faster than just picking up and dropping each yarn as I need it, so I don't bother now.

Continental style looks more efficient, as you don't have to move your hands as much, but I can't get on with it! I find hooking the yarn difficult because knitting needles don't have a hook on the end!

@NiceCardigan - Dispute resolution? That sounds tough, I'm not surprised you wanted out! I'm hoping I won't have to deal with too many disputes and angry people when I start supply teaching again, but I fear there will be quite a few teenagers who might have forgotten how to interact in a civilised fashion face-to-face with each other and with teachers!
