Money raising or not- urghh, just urrrghh.

luciemule · 21/04/2010 22:52

But who cares - it's raised £26000 for Help for Heroes. as an army wife, if my bum wasn't lardy, I'd have done it too.
I wouldn't recommend posting this thread in the Forces sweethearts topic!

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 22:54

Thats as maybe but it all comes back to 'wit woo lets objectify the lovely ladies and let the nice hard working men have a leer at them'

And no I wouldnt put the thread in the 'forces sweethearts' section as I didnt even know it existed until you informed me

BattyKoda · 21/04/2010 22:56

Link doesn't work so won't look, but regardless, YABU if luciemule is right about how much money was raised.

2shoes · 21/04/2010 22:58

yabu
well done to the volonteers

Try again- yes it raises money but again what does that say? Being an object of mens lust is okay if you raise money for it? It to me actually cheapens what the men AND women do. Sorry may be unpopular here but im tired of the naked little women being seen as normal because 'well its for a good cause/the men like it' etc

OP posts:
luciemule · 21/04/2010 23:00

I wasn't being difficult redwine - it's just that I bet people didn't think that when the WI did it?
Thankfully my DH hasn't been injured phyically during his op tours, however many wives' husbands have either been injured or killed and if raising money by making a tacky calendar makes lots of money to help support soldiers and their families, then I don't see what's wrong with it. And don't forget that the vast majority of people buying the calendar would be in the forces themselves.

2shoes · 21/04/2010 23:00

no one made them do it........they volunteered
and it raised money for a very good cause

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 23:02

The WI calender contained tasteful suggestive shots- not show all titilating porno scenarios!

OP posts:
luciemule · 21/04/2010 23:06

The WI women were naked and so there is absolutely no difference. It inferred nudity otherwise they would have all been pictured in jeans, wellies, poloneck jumpers etc.

When I look at the Help for heroes calendar, I look at things like the tanks, the fence, which looks like the back fence of my married quarter and whether I knew any of the women - not how degrading it is for them to be sitting on a rowing machine naked or holding a gun against their boobs. That's the funny bit. It's a laugh and army wives are very good at having a laugh and doing some very kind things to help others.

luciemule · 21/04/2010 23:08

I really wouldn't call any of the pages 'porno scenarios' redwine.

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 23:08

And getting their bits out for the lads lets not forget....

OP posts:
venusonarockbun · 21/04/2010 23:09

Were all the women in the WI calendar ? I didnt think they were.

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 23:09

Oh okay the 'foodfight' is perfectly non sexual and just purely cheeky is it not?

For those saying yes its fine would you be happy to have the calender up at home where your kids could see it? If not- why not?

OP posts:
Ladyanonymous · 21/04/2010 23:10

Whats wrong with getting your bits out for the lads? I love it me....

Greensleeves · 21/04/2010 23:10

I agree with the OP

fucking vile

and depressing

venusonarockbun · 21/04/2010 23:10

Sorry meant were all the women in the WI calender naked!

Mermaidspam · 21/04/2010 23:10

YABU - don't care what the pictures were like, they volunteered to do it for a very good cause.

venusonarockbun · 21/04/2010 23:11

Havent actually seen it so cannot say whether or not its vile - but this sort of thing has so been done to death.

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 23:12

And theres nothing else they could have done but get naked to please the lads who fight for our country? fuck me Britain has gone down the pan if thats the case...

OP posts:
tiredlady · 21/04/2010 23:12

It is vile, regardless of whether it is in aid of a good cause or not.

It just boils down to whether women should stand there naked for men to ogle at.

Objectification of women is wrong. It makes no difference that this is being done for a charity.

If people cba to look at it why reply?

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 21/04/2010 23:14

I think their point is that they wouldn't care if the photos were of baby seals being clubbed to death - it's raising money for "our boys" so the end justifies the scabby, sordid means

RedRedWine1980 · 21/04/2010 23:14

Thank god tired lady.
Why not raise money but getting the lads to get their asses/winkys out? Oh I know because it might JUST belittle the profession and what they are actually doing maybe?

OP posts:
BigBadMummy · 21/04/2010 23:14

They volunteered.

Not like a lot of porn where women are forced to do things they would rather not.

These women chose to do it, probably chose the photographer, chose their own poses.

And raised a huge sum of money for a very very worthy cause.

That cannnot be wrong.

How would you suggest we raise £30,000 instead? A barn dance?
