They would probably be called jealous/frigid/uptight and all the other age old names men use to call women who object to this kind of sexualisation...so best suck it up and say 'hell yeah its fine' because whats the point in saying otherwise?

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 00:06

I can't imagine any forces female standing up to sexist behaviour....it's too dangerous for them...they would be ostracised

pigletmania · 22/04/2010 00:06

I am going to state the obvious so here goes, if you post on AIBU expect people to disagree with your views, what a boring thread it would be if there was arguing discussing

pigletmania · 22/04/2010 00:07

i meant no. should go to bed night night.

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 00:08

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:08

I've been sending FHM as well!

What sort of Marines do you know then RRW? They'd love it; you evidently don't 'get' Forces humour and what they find appropriate.

'Knowing' Forces personnel is different from understanding what makes them tick; you get that from growing up around them and being married to them and understanding the mentality. I don't think you do understand them, so whilst you can view this as degrading women, the fact that there are Forces wives on here telling you that we don't object to this specific calendar/fund raising exercise, should be a pointer that perhaps you don't have the inside track on this one, and we might just know a bit more about the HM Forces mindset than you do.

Ladyanonymous · 22/04/2010 00:10

Me too to bed...my man is back for the weekend tomorrow...I am going to dream about how to best sexualise myself for him after some hair removal....for myself

Tiredmumno1 · 22/04/2010 00:10

Yeah blah blah.

fgs yes it is degrading, but it was for a good cause, do you see anyone else throwing money at them, NO. so get over yourself, and if you didnt realise most people have said you are being unreasonable, so they obviously dont agree with you. and its not like its the first naked calender is it, so its not shocking when they do this sort of thing. just deal with the fact that most people who pose naked are just doing a job. no doubt you would prefer they were unemployed

me and my sweetheart are off to bed.

good night m'netters and god bless

luciemule · 22/04/2010 00:11

off to bed but will read eagerly tomorrow to see if anything's changed.

tiredlady · 22/04/2010 00:11

Absolutley RRW.

Women who object to this kind of crap are indeed called frigid/uptight/humourless etc

i am just debating in my mind if it's more depressing to hear that shit being spouted from the mouths of men or women...

scaryteacher · 22/04/2010 00:12

'I can't imagine any forces female standing up to sexist behaviour....it's too dangerous for them...they would be ostracised' You want to meet the female Commodores and Commanders then. They chew people up and spit them out again.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:12

Yes and the woman who thought the idea up bravely gets her tits out for the sun newspaper- what a trooper! How can anyone possibly object though when money is involved maybe a forces wifes porno is the next smart move- see if they can smash the £1 mil mark

OP posts:
RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:14

Yes tiredmum of course id prefer them to be unemployed- yeh thats what ive been saying all along

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 00:15

Yes scaryteacher, that's why females are dominant in the forces.....not

luciemule · 22/04/2010 00:17

At the end of the day, if you're not in the forces or a forces dependent, then perhaps you just don't get why the wives would do this.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:19

Oh okay- if you arent in the SWAGS your opinion means nowt. On that note im off to bed x

What this thread is interestingly showing up is how much some people object to sexual display of any kind. Because these 'charity' calendars, which feature non-porn-performers naked or semi-naked, are fundamentally about sexual display that is free from coercion. The people who pose for these pictures are not trafficking victims, homeless previously abused teens or desperate drug addicts. They are people who have decided that this kind of sexual display is a good thing to do, it's In A Good Cause and therefore gives them permission to do something which says, hey look at me, I'm a bit fit actually. And someone other than my heteromonogamous partner is hereby given permission to look at my body, admire it and maybe even have a wank over it and I like the idea.
While not everyone is that keen on sexual display for themselves I still think that it's a positive thing, a lot more positive than the mindset which suggests that anyone who engages in any kind of sexual display, such as showing an ankle or wearing a garment fitted to the body, should be beaten up, imprisoned or killed.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:21

Oooh looky if you want to raise more money get a full tits out photo of the creator of the calender- her family must be sooo proud, think of all the money its raised

They will be eventually scurry; it's not that long since women have gone to sea, and db's big boss before last is tipped to be the first female admiral.

scaryteacher · 22/04/2010 00:23

Fine RRW, you donate 26k to Help for Heroes and we'll get the calendar withdrawn.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 00:23

Im betting someone thought it was a good idea (tits out for the sun woman) and the others felt pressured to 'help the lads out' by following suit. Maybe not forcing but im sure there is an element of co-ercion.

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 00:31

Thanks everyone, goodnight

In the US military, rape, violence and sexual harrassment figures against women are massively disproportionate to those in everyday life. Women who serve are at more risk of attack from their colleagues than the enemy.

From what I understand, the UK is following suit.

One of the factors cited regularly is the unwelcome display of pornography.

Hanging calendars like this in a workplace is hostile and threatening towards women who work there. Good luck arguing it out with your HR personnel in any other type of workplace. Why should an exception be made for the military where trust, teamwork and respect between colleagues is of critical importance?
