stupid or a weirdo. It's really not very nice and it made my son and I really sad to hear this. Also, please do't rush her when she's eating because you have things to do. Telling her to hurry up 7 times in 5 minutes is OTT. Would it have killed you to be patient? It was not as if she was eating slowly though was it? Then you moaned at her for getting chocolate under her fingernails.

I probably do know nothing about her but there's things a parent should never say to their child (I hate you, you're ugly, you're stupid/useless). I don't think I'm wrong in saying that these words make an impact on that child and affect their self esteem for a very long time.

I couldn't give two hoots about why she said these things and I'm not judging her as a mother, just what she said. The poor child looked very miserable. No one has the right to make a child feel this way. It's never acceptable to make a child feel like crap.

I think mothers are often critical of their daughters, I know my mother was. She used to be really ukind to me and I've never forgoten her saying I was fat (I'm a size 10) or smacig me across the face when I was afraid to go dow an escalator.

Hi Clumsymum. I'm pleased you got it sorted. We just pottered around the house, there's ot alot to do over the holidays. Ds starts his new school on Thursday so I'm job hunting to see what I can find incase I can't go back to nursing.

I never get to notice these things as I am normally to busy feeding dd. were you not busy being a perfect mum with your child

It was the wierdo that confused me. The stupid just pissed me off. There are worse things to do to a child, the little girl was about 6 and looked so upset.

If you don't have time I would suggest that you don't go in for a muffin in the first place!

In these situations I always give the mum a big smile as I'm leaving and say 'you have a lovely child'.

But don't you find that repeatedly saying 'hurry up' achieves nothing? In fact, I swear that ds actually goes slower if I keep saying hurry up, so I just get more exasperated.

sorry but have to agree no one child or adult should be called 'thick, stupid , idiot (unless it's XH! lol)' or all of the above!

DB was at school and has suffered since often calling himself thick & stupid after teachers told him - it's taken a long long time for mum/I to convince him he's neither, but his talents don't lay in academics - he's pratical.
