Jewish people have to take security very seriously in schools here.

Antisemitism here in the UK is appalling.

I was once a 'Grren' no more due to the hatred Antisemitism in the party.

Jewish students work together at a table at school

Schools should recognise antisemitism as distinct form of harm, review says

The government is expected to accept all 27 recommendations made in the review by ex-Ofsted boss, Sir David Bell.

I live in a predominantly Jewish area and the fact that each school has to have security guards on it is just disgusting.

WhereAreTheTrueGreens · 21/10/2026 09:26

"Headteachers of some Jewish schools are spending more of their time dealing with security arrangements than on educational matters, a review into antisemitism in schools and colleges has found."

No other schools have to do this.

The hatred here encouraged by the hate marches is real. The virtue signalling whilst spreading hatred keeps conflict going.

I know no Christian or Muslim schools have this need for this level of safety and security.

Imagine being a child in the UK having to live with this real fear of attack. Awful 😖

Sorry to be ignorant but isn't this largely due to the threat of terrorist activity? Or is the threat wider than that?

It’s much wider. My kids harassed on the bus as Jewish (can tell by uniform). Those harassing are not “terrorists” but students from other schools who support the “Palestine” cause.

Jewish schools have had much higher security for years. Antisemitism has increased and security has had to increase even more.

The threats of terrorism should concern us all. Jewish people have been targeted in terrorist attacks in Manchester and London more recently

Thank you for explaining much better.

Why should Jewish children be harassed by ignorant hate filled people. There needs more education around antisemitism in schools (and in society and The Green Party too).

The ignorance of those thinking harassing Jewish children actually helps the cause of Palestinians is astounding.

It's shocking. That members of our society have to hide their religion and/or ethnic heritage is not acceptable. Everybody else can celebrate their heritage and wears symbols of their religion. Not Jewish people? Not acceptable.
It's time that this intolerance and bigotry was more robustly dealt with. People are too scared to go to the synagogue or wear a piece of jewellery? I find that completely unacceptable in a 21st C diverse , liberal democracy

LuckyHazelFox · 21/10/2026 09:37

The Palestinian cause will go down as one of the biggest scams in history. It was set up to mask sinister ulterior motives, detrimental to the existence of the Jewish community. YANBU OP.

My friend teaches in a school in North London. He told me that one girl approached a Jewish girl and shouted "Hamas!" in her face. So an innocent teenager gets verbally threatened by someone using the name of a terror organisation? In school? Vile.

My daughter’s school bus did not display the name of the school to avoid putting pupils at risk.

I cannot express my horror at the Green Party and what it's become. I watched Zack Polanski on the Laura K programme and I was shocked. Has Polanski genuinely got no idea what's happening?
There's not just hatred, not just bigotry, but astounding levels of ignorance.

Good to see Jews having their voices heard. I hope other Jewish Mumsnetters come forward to this thread and share their experiences. God knows they've been shut down for too long ❤️

Absolutely. It's our responsibility as non Jews to support them as well.
The only thing for evil to succeed?.
I think those if us who are good people need to step up.

I walked by a synagogue in London recently and saw they had taken down the sign with the name of the synagogue. I can understand why they did that, but it's heartbreaking.

Dilbertian · 21/10/2026 09:58

It’s nothing new. It’s just much, much worse.

In the 70s my Jewish primary school looked like any other school. A chain link fence around the playground and a 5ft high playground gate that was locked between drop off and pickup. The driveway gates were left open and visitors could walk right into the school from that side. A big sign on the outside, announcing the school’s name and the Headmaster’s name.

My older sibling and I used to have stones thrown at us as we walked home in our ordinary uniforms with the Star of David on the school badge.

A few years later, when our younger siblings attended that school, the playground fence was solid, the gate was the height of the fence, the driveway gates were closed, and the school doors were on entryphone.

Today, you wouldn’t know there was a school there. There is no sign giving the name of the school. What schools in the UK don’t have their names and something about them on a board at their entrance? The entire site is surrounded by a 10ft fence (I believe you have to get planning permission for anything over 6ft), plus another 8ft of netting. The netting doesn’t just serve to keep balls in the grounds. Tell me, what’s the problem with a member of staff or a sensible student nipping out to fetch a ball that goes over? It also serves to prevent projectiles being thrown into the playground. The gates, too, are solid, high barriers with entryphones. CCTV covers the entire perimeter and all possible entry points.

If you went to view a prospective school for your child you would be horrified to see this fortress. The Jewish families are reassured by it.
