Jewish people have to take security very seriously in schools here.

Antisemitism here in the UK is appalling.

I was once a 'Grren' no more due to the hatred Antisemitism in the party.

Jewish students work together at a table at school

Schools should recognise antisemitism as distinct form of harm, review says

The government is expected to accept all 27 recommendations made in the review by ex-Ofsted boss, Sir David Bell.

There are some extremely vocal ‘FP’ voices in our town. There was outrage at an Israeli flag being flown on the anniversary of 7th October. They were apparently oblivious to the date and demanded to know why Jewish people in our town should need to mark the date or feel afraid. They are very much of the “I’m not antisemitic but….” camp. It’s horrible and I feel deeply for every Jewish person.

Ugh ... weaponised faux naiveity.

I was talking with a 14 year old earlier and he said he had to sometimes justify being alive to other kids

Now that hits home hard doesn't it

The likes of Owen Jones, NEU leader and various other cretins can pick apart the latest findings but what the fail to understand is there narrative on this doesn't matter. The lived experiences of Jewish children in tbe UK is more important than their argument points or people in the UK debating a conflict in another country.

Tragic 😢. The NEU are supporting a teacher who was displaying a Palestinian badge in contravention of the political neutrality of teachers (in the Teaching Standards). The HT told her to remove it, she refused and has brought in the NEU.
Disgraceful.

I think it's the only flag that can't be flown. Think of countries with no civil rights, few human rights, slavery, racism, atrocities, violent warfare... there's not one of those flags which is contentious. They all get flown.

Neverstopwondering · 24/10/2026 21:36

A friend of mine is the NEU rep at her school. A while ago after their conference she said a lot of the reps felt really uncomfortable during several of the speeches, not just what was being said but the reaction of joy from a large number in the audience. It was all rather cult like and not really how you want educators to conduct themselves. So much obsession about Israel amongst many NEU members. My friend isn't Jewish but felt uncomfortable, can you imagine how a Jewish teacher there may have felt.

Neverstopwondering · 24/10/2026 21:50

One London state secondary school I know fairly well offered support for Ukrainian and Russian students and the families or those with that heritage at the school when that conflict first stated. An email letter went out to all the families saying if anyone needed extra support or counselling during that time to let the school know

After 7th October 2023 silence. No offer of support or counselling was sent out. This is despite the fact there are far more Jewish or Jewish heritage children at the school than Ukrainian or Russian.

I'd like to know what was offensive about @Teenawilko's excellent post? This sort of thing does make me feel that moderation on these threads tilts towards censorship of observations that don't toe the "groupthink" line.

I'm sorry, I am genuinely a bit lost! I thought I was applauding someone who was talking about schools and the NEU? Maybe I got the wrong poster!
Do you know what got deleted?

It’s much wider. My kids harassed on the bus as Jewish (can tell by uniform). Those harassing are not “terrorists” but students from other schools who support the “Palestine” cause.

I know they shouldn’t have to. But I wonder if the schools should give the children the option to change out of their uniform into other clothes before heading home for the day?

They shouldn’t have to do so and the harassment they get is disgusting.

You (like me) were applauding a post that was so clear I actually sincerely thought it should be pinned to the top of the CITME forum to balance things out a bit. I am really shocked to see it disappear.

Maybe @Teenawilko could rephrase it to avoid whatever it is that triggers censorship, although that is clearly a difficult line to tread with MN on this topic 😣

As I recall, it covered several topics, including that children’s safety should not be compromised by whataboutery, and that discussion of children’s safety should not be derailed by whataboutery.

I don’t think that there was anything offensive about it. Teenawilko expressed herself forcefully and assertively.

I wanted to copy and save that post. But when I came back it was too late. Carpe diem!

I’m not. I should have screen shotted it. It proves very clearly that facts are censored when they are to do with Israel/Jews etc. I genuinely don’t understand why anything I said should have been deleted. I guess freedom of speech only applies for one side of the coin… I’ll probably be banned soon. Just watch….

Yes, it's very worrying. I deleted my MN account in all the savagery that followed 7/10, because after a while it seemed that Hamas was controlling the whole narrative! I know that sounds paranoid, but it felt as though one by one the rational voices were being targeted and destroyed. There were some very scary posters who chased me across forums and generally made things miserable. I've sometimes searched them by name out of curiosity, and they seem to have disappeared too - perhaps back under a new ID, or perhaps they just hung up their boots once their mission was accomplished.

I know that sounds nuts, but I bet I'm not the only one who felt like that.

Dilbertian · 25/10/2026 10:43

Ironically, this morning I reported a post on a thread in the Jewish MNers board for relatively subtle anti-Semitism and it was deleted within the hour.

Moderation is always weird at weekends. I would ask for clarification re how it broke site rules on Monday @Teenawilko .

Get a different mod to take a look at it.

Good for you. I can’t remember exactly what your deleted post said but I seem to remember “liking” it - you talk a lot of sense. I certainly didn’t see anything in it that stood out as being offensive in any way.

Yes, this is where we've come to. Suggestions that Jewish children and students should hide anything that identifies them as Jews.

Imagine if the scale of hostility towards Muslims was at such a pitch that people suggested that the girls remove their headscarves before heading home for the day.

That’s good anyway. Maybe it depends which mod you get but it’s always worth getting a second opinion if a post you made in good faith gets deleted and you can’t understand why. I’ve had several decisions overturned when I’ve asked for a second opinion.

A lot of things are illegal in Germany today thankfully. Any swastikas or Holocaust analogy etc.
I’m not any religion but my best friend for many years is a black Jew and I can’t even begin to tell you the kind of things she and her family have experienced in the UK and more recently in Spain as a result. She’s the kindness most lovely person I know. Yet she’s been at the receiving end of some of the most antisemitic and racist things that I’ve heard of.
What I’m most perturbed about is that her wider community are left wing activities who she has stood alongside for decades. BLM, Ukraine, green issues etc. She has stood in solidarity with these people who claim to be humanitarian and on the “right side”. Yet these are the very people who today, express vile antisemitic vitriol in her face.. people who vehemently believe themselves to be anti racist! Yet they vilify the land of her ancestors, allow themselves to spew trendy rhetoric about her lived experience and she’s lost so many friends over it. I mean, how difficult is it to say to your Jewish friend: I have my own feelings about the conflict, however you’re my friend and I’ve got your back and I love you?
How can people who go on pro Palestine marches not see how intimating and frightening they seem to Jewish and Israeli people? How can they not understand how weighted and traumatic the word “genocide” is to Jews? I don’t get it and I never will. You can have strong views without cancelling or hurting those who disagree!

Yes, many of these activists and agitators are actually cowardly and spiteful. They attach themselves with great fervour to fashionable causes, because that makes them part of the 'in' group within the circles they move in. They're happy to vilify and harass anyone who's part of the 'out' group, treating those people as the bad guys who deserve to be abused.

Unfortunately we're pack animals and this gets repeated over and over again. But the people who see themselves as the good guys are anything but.

Teenawilko · 25/10/2026 11:20

I'm against censorship completely, unless it’s very clearly hate speech or incitement to violence. We should be grown up enough to have discussions without taking offence. Even if we feel personally attacked I still think we’re grown ups and don’t need to complain and get stuff deleted. That’s what they do in Russia and Iran and I’m not sure we want to be similar in any way to these kinds of places.

EmpressOfTheThread · 25/10/2026 11:20

Unfortunately, as well, it's a "fashionable" cause. On the BBC politics programme there was a white English politician wearing a keffiyeh. Why? I thought that shouldn't have been allowed.

I just cringe when I see those people and agree it shouldn't be allowed. Would the star of David be allowed? Oh I can guess, it would be seen as being inflammatory.

It's madness. Sitting on a BBC politics programme like that? Sitting next to him was Jewish journalist Jo Coburn, who is Jewish. She was very restrained.
