Anyone else would mop, right?

You pour yourself a coffee, and as you turn away from the counter, a tablespoons worth falls to the kitchen tile.

You would mop that up right? Not leave it, or "wipe it up with your sock".
Right?!

Am I being unreasonable to think anyone else who spilt coffee would get out a mop and clean it properly?

OP posts:

No chance am I getting the mop out for that.

Obviously any normal person wouldn’t mop the floor for a few drops of coffee. But I also struggle to see why OPs coworker was walking around in their socks before going back on the shop floor, that’s stranger than either option for cleaning the coffee up

By “mop” I assumed they meant the action of mopping up not necessarily with an actual mop (although what would be wrong with getting out the flash speed mop and giving it a quick going over?!), but maybe with a cloth or paper towel. Anything that is not socks on a persons feet that will then be in contact with the floor throughout the rest of the house / shop.

I’m also not sure why anyone would be in socks without shoes at work 🤷‍♀️

I read that and thought you meant you skipped the weekly mopping if the dog had weed. I'm a scruff, but even my standards are a bit higher than that.

Black sock or white, OP? MN needs to know.

Your dog has weed? Is he permanently stoned? Do you skip the weekly mopping to share weed with the dog?

Seriously, that's what I saw on first reading...... Maybe an early night is in order.

The OP literally said ‘get out a mop and clean it properly’ so it’s a little odd to assume that means ‘use a paper towel’ to be honest

The Flash mop is still a mop. It takes 2 seconds to get it out and stick a wipe on it. Whether she meant cleaning up with an actual mop or just the action of mopping, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to clean spills up with something other than your socks.

Socks on feet are not for cleaning. Especially in a place of work.

Ecstaticmotion · Yesterday 19:13

Sock or at most a small cloth for a quick wipe, this is surely an insane thing to do a mop for

TheAquaTraybake · Yesterday 19:14

No chance I'd be filling a bucket and getting the mop out for this.

If you're saying it's sticky, then I assume it has sugar in? I would use kitchen roll for normal coffee, but if I thought it has sugar in I'd also use a cloth or a wet wipe.

Nobody said a flash mop isn’t a mop? Not sure why you assume they’d have one in the work kitchen, or that she doesn’t mean mopping with a mop when that’s exactly what she said but ok 😅 most of us agree cleaning with a cloth makes sense, especially at work. It’s actually getting a mop out that’s unnecessary.

StayCoolLikeAPenguin · Yesterday 19:16

It's really odd to me that anyone would use their sock! A TABLESPOON of coffee would leave you with a very wet sock that would leave little damp patches as you walk and stain any soft furnishings!

I wouldn't use the mop either. My mother would have filled a whole mopping bucket with Dettol and Flash infused water and mopped half the kitchen floor. A quick blot and wipe with damp kitchen roll would suffice!

SassyPlumHiker · Yesterday 19:17

Nah……I’d just get the dog to lick it up 🤣

LBFseBrom · Yesterday 19:17

I would if I noticed.

LindorDoubleChoc · Yesterday 19:19

I would soak it up with kitchen paper. I mop once a month maximum.

Start a thread about your unhappy marriage and this being one of many many issues

Sorry OP this made me laugh 😆🤭

Fascinated by the mumsnetters who never wear socks.

I also agree with cleaning with a cloth so don’t know why you’re freaking out so badly 😅 it’s almost like what you’re saying is that the right thing to do would be to ‘mop’ up the spill with a cloth. Hence using the verb mop in place of “clean”

8TinyToeBeans · Yesterday 19:25

Definitely the sock. There’s no chance I’m getting a mop out for a little spill!

PeloMom · Yesterday 19:27

Kitchen roll

That's even worse than my reading!

Honestly, being permanently stoned might account for how my dog behaves.

Elsvieta · Yesterday 19:30

Don't own a mop, but would use a cloth. I don't want coffee treading into my carpets!

I’m not freaking out at all silly billy! You are being weird about the mop though! Nobody at all is saying cleaning the spillage with a cloth is odd. Everyone is saying using an actual mop isn’t necessary. HTH

UniquePinkSwan · Yesterday 19:34

Sock

Nuthatchtreelover · Yesterday 19:37

No, I’d call one of the dogs over to lick it up.😂

katepilar · Yesterday 19:39

I would use a cloth. No way I would get a mop out. Sock would be used for drop-sized amounts of water, probably not coffee.

TheOwlShootAtNight · Yesterday 19:49

Paper towel will do. No need to start mopping

Sasha07 · Yesterday 19:49

Absolutely not my sock! It's a kitchen towel job surely? Mop seems a bit too much effort unless it was right there and good to go.
